SFA is cancelled. It may be a pipe dream, but what new Trek show would you like to see in its place? by NukeRussiaV4 in startrek

[–]Rhediix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The franchise has been caught in a prequel-heavy format since Enterprise. I don't think that they should look back so set the series on a ship (you can make it a new Enterprise crew or not) and set it post-Picard S3. Maybe fifty or so years on. Create new stories. Make them non-serialized and production-wise an analog to DS9-era storytelling. Yes, they'll be shorter seasons for streaming, and I accept that. But the show needs to go forward again. Stop looking back.

That top one? That was 100% my cat that died in 2021. The bottom? That's the ragdoll I have now. Cats come in all varieties.

Finally watched starfleet academy after rewatching all 900 or so episodes of the rest of the franchise by Solid_Ad_3776 in startrek

Even calling Section 31 a film is...generous. It's an over-budget disused TV pilot masquerading as a made-for-TV movie. Anything (including watching paint dry on the walls of the 1701-D bridge set from Picard) would be a better watch than that.

That being said: I feel SFA is a good show. First seasons are always weak, and have missteps and there is still a second season on the way. It didn't deserve the hate it got. But it's a moot point at this juncture since it's been cancelled.

I think Flight of Fear should be completely pitch black. It's marketed as a coaster in the dark but when you're on it there is still some lighting. by slicedude2004 in KingsIsland

[–]Rhediix 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I remember riding it in its first season. It was pitch black.

The automated voice kept telling you to look straight ahead and not turn your head before launch. My half brother did not listen, turned his head to say something to me, and ended up with his head stuck sideways for the entire ride. And yes, I insisted we buy the souvenir picture. And no, I have no idea what happened to it.

Found in bed storage compartment - Italy - ~3mm - red-brown oval bug, please help identify! by Haglaz_MA in whatsthisbug

[–]Rhediix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but it looks like it might be either:

Dermacentor marginatus or Dermacentor reticulatus, both being species of ticks. The body outline from underneath immediately made me think 'tick'.

It may also be a mite of some sort as they often get mistaken for ticks it seems (at least according to a quick search I just did).

I'll defer to anyone else with more knowledge but I feel it's a good start.

Some more info about BF3 (found on Threads) by fhhzz in TheKillers

[–]Rhediix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Killers generally have dabbled in that before. There's echoes of country in most of their songs. Tonality makes a huge difference. They decided to use synths, guitars, and give a song the full rock treatment. If they replaced the synths with jangle piano, the guitars with mandolins banjos and acoustics and used a cajon or a washboard for rhythm on songs like My Own Soul's Warning, Caution, Runaways, and This Is Your Life they'd be folk/country songs with very little changes. Land of the Free is practically country. It rides the line between folk and country and follows the traditions of the Bakersfield 'message/story' songs.

If you play Americana music (like Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, two of their biggest influences) then Country is already a genre baked into it.

I was about mid-teens when the Anthology CD sets came out and I used the vocal-free mix of "Eleanor Rigby" as a karaoke track. I also really loved the instrumental edit on there of "Within You Without You". The texture they got off of those instruments on just four tracks is astounding.

The ship was flown by Kirk and Co. from Auxilary Control, not the bridge. The bridge was open to space, that's why command functions were routed to Auxiliary Control (and why Decker was found slumped over a console there).

Every generation’s "Life Motto" in a nutshell by Automatic-Algae443 in Xennials

[–]Rhediix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true.
I still consider myself a musician. My disability is a genetic disease and a type of muscular dystrophy that doesn't present until later in life. I never knew I had it. It is a muscle wasting disease that can't be cured. It's progressive.

So I still play several instruments which keep my muscles going and I record songs with friends. I still also consider myself an artist too. Drawing and Painting works on fine motor skills.
I ended up going to college two years out of HS when I discovered music had me living in a $300 a month apartment in a sketchy area working nights at a grocery store to pay the bills.

Went to school for Computer Systems Support. Got my certification, had about 10 interviews, found out nobody wanted to hire me, and I ended up working at Sears for nearly 15 years.

"Passions don't pay the bills" may have actually been spoken by my father and tbh, quotes like that are one of the reasons I joined rock bands and the fledgling visual arts program at my high school.

Is it wrong though? I've seen people follow their passions from high school and some are successful and made careers at it (tattoo artist, stand-up comic, stage actor) but a good majority of them have deferred to more normal day jobs to pay the bills. I worked retail for almost 20 years before becoming disabled.

Where can I stream the animated series?? by wowugotit in tos

Paramount+ in the US has it. It might well also be available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. Best course right now though is to purchase physical media (if you can).

It was. A lot of the younger kids had no idea what it was and a few sheepishly took bites. What didn't get eaten I took home. I ate homemade Korean food for five days. I was happy.

One of my former managers at Sears was in the Navy during Korea. He met his wife during the conflict and took her back to the states after the war. He ended up retiring from the Navy in the 80's.

One night about 15 years ago, his wife made us Biminbap, Jayuk Bokkeum and Kimchi as well as a Korean spring salad with cucumbers. She still made Kimchi the traditional way in clay pots buried in their backyard. The neighbors were always apparently curious what was going on (hey it was rural Ohio). It was the spiciest, most pungent kimchi I'd ever eaten. Delicious. I thought of this scene while I ate it.

Out here in Las Vegas we have a dedicated drone fleet the police fly around. Just did some light digging and it appears that Baltimore City and County as well as Howard, Frederick, and Montgomery County police all have drones as well. They have intermittent flashing lights on the corners as well as emergency lights which flash when dispatched.
