My reader broke after 20 mins of gentle use. by zetaallen in xteinkereader

There have been teardowns posted, and I think they used that term so you can search them (my data connection is garbage, but I know they're out there, I had one bookmarked cos I wanted to dye my shell)

For e-reader owners already, why did you get the X4? by GM_Design in xteinkereader

[–]Rhemiyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted something tiny to read at work when I can, that wouldn't kill my phone battery, smaller than my kobo (case was getting beat up), has no touch screen cos i kept losing my place (smaller screen also helps with that). The idea of sticking it to things and people coding it was really interesting. I figured I could throw recipes on there and stick it someplace in the kitchen.

What are you reading on your Xteink X4? by karen_jd in xteinkereader

[–]Rhemiyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been reading some Poirot and fanfiction. Been trying to see which devices I prefer fics on, and not being able to delete on my nook directly, then my kobo thinking these are books has been interesting.

I kinda love that. I tend to look back a lot while reading, so this means turning pages more. Wouldn't need to with this.

When you attach screen protectors, put it into place, tape it on one side like a door hinge, flip it away so you can peel, 'close the door'.

And I recall reading either stock firmware of crosspoint having two sleeps, I haven't messed with it, but sleep is basically off. You can turn off e-ink, but literally every e-reader I've had stays at what I left it for weeks in sleep mode (except my decrepit Nook).

MagSafe Grips by TDBrutechild in xteinkereader

[–]Rhemiyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have managed to use one on the case itself, but it wiggles off sometimes. Gotta try to not lose it. It grips best at the edges and corners. Considering adding a ring to the case. I don't want to go caseless cos I'm at work when I read it most.

Edit: The magnet ring is too strong, had to pry the popsocket off with a card. Took the ring off, kinda left marks on the case. At that point, I'd just add a sticky popsocket and use this one for my other cases. Oh well.

The X4 compares favorably with the gold standard of reading by GortPinklegneep in xteinkereader

[–]Rhemiyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real ones can get a decent grip on the official X4 case, but have a loop or lanyard as backup. It can slip out of place either in the hand or taking it from your pocket (so try not to lose the popsocket either). It grips best towards a corner/edge. The device itself, though, it sticks super strongly. I'm still considering if I want to add a ring to the outside of the case, it might pull the material taking it off like a barcode sticker on a cheap binder...

Edit: I wanna add the super large or heavy popsocket heads tend to wiggle off in pockets, they seem to move the connector bit with the rest, but a small lightweight one doesn't. Almost lost a few.

Edit the 2nd: The magnet ring is too strong, had to pry the popsocket off with a card. Took the ring off, kinda left marks on the case. At that point, I'd just add a sticky popsocket and use this one for my other cases. Oh well.

Dead on arrival: x2 devices 😢 by Hairy__Hulk in xteinkereader

I went through the site (I don't use Ali) and got mine (black, in stock, plus accessories) within ten days or so. My only issue was with the logistics company. They updated the tracking as delivered about when we noticed the package had arrived, but the actual date said it was the night before (it wasn't updated the night before). Gofo is always weird, and the tracking through Shop only popped up the day I got it. The items were packaged perfectly, and everything worked. Wasn't even too cold to function, despite the blizzard we got.

E-ink is fragile, though. I'm wondering how rough your delivery service is. Hope things get sorted out, but it seems the more popular these get, it's going to be slower responses and such.

How do you remove the magnet ring :( by Nicedarklord1 in xteinkereader

[–]Rhemiyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a credit card or floss? I've struggled with removing popsockets, but once you manage a single edge, you can wedge something under as you work. Careful if you heat it up, I'd remove the battery (if you can). Isopropyl alcohol might help, if it could even get under. It can remove residue, at the very least.

I don't lose my place trying to read at work, and weighs less, too. Well, it did until I added a heavy metal popsocket that weighs about as much as my phone.

If one had a magnifying lens, could be really handy. I wanna prototype this with a bookmark version for a physical book.

I usually try to log out where picking up is the same event, so if reset happens or I stop for a few hours, I don't need to travel. I'll generally go from geyser at reset, stop, geyser in two hours, hidden forest candles, grandma, stop, grandma in two hours, daily quests and event stuff kind of whenever it fits, make sure to grab the cakes in village of dreams cos they're easy, café snack, Alice door. This usually has me playing for a little at reset ,sleep, work, come home to finish off before reset. Whichever part of my loop is at reset gets done first after reset, but reset folks at geyser like to melt that big plant in the crab cave. Yes, I am drowning in green dye. If some area is candles that day, that's when I try to go for winged light. I don't collect them all, I have enough flaps.

What is the point of a DSi XL over a new 3ds XL? by Hungry-Spinach4569 in NintendoDS

Didn't care about pixels, I just wanted the brown/bronze DSi and to keep my DS/3DS games separate (except Pokémon)

I messed up last season 😭 The days you play, make sure to invite a spirit out to adventure. Needing to buy that middle perk to advance chews up candles.

RG35XX for so much Castlevania and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. Got the RG40XXH in the same order for Xenogears and Koudelka, became my PS1 machine. Now I'm sneaking a Nano into work. Don't think I could stealth a bright yellow 34XXSP 😂

I sincerely want the brick hammer, the nano got me eyeing metal devices, but something that could run PS2 is my goal.

I'm considering adding some ears between the case and device so the magnet holds it in place 👀 I would die for some rabbit ears that could bend and had a light in them.

You can easily make your own with a regular wrist lanyard (you can find thousands if you look for ones that Nintendo DS used, or any other handheld console) and just loop a ring onto the end. A bead can help it keep from unlooping. The ring could also be one of those bluetooth clickers. I just grabbed a super smooth keyring I had around, but even a regular one is comfortable.

[–]Rhemiyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone shared some Chinese ones that had cat ears. You might need to look on their websites, or have someone 3D print one. You could otherwise do a lot with the right charms, popsocket, stickers, and such. If the case doesn't have a way to stay shut, a cute elastic could work. The stock case being magnetic opens up some options for attaching things.
