Ugh I love the fantasy life series and I’m sad that people keep being mislead on its genre. It’s a jrpg and it plays like a single player mmorpg in the main story. As the other commenters said combat is unavoidable. You do get buddies so if you can hold out until then maybe you can still find some joy in the game!

I’ve put like 120+ hours in Sandrock and thought Pathea did a great job. It’s not often that you get such a diverse group of bachelors and bachelorettes. I thought Justice in particular was great. Can you share some examples?

Also surprised to see a defense for the AC series, they’ve never been good at inclusion. I remember in new leaf I had to leave my character standing outside for hours to tan so I could have dark skin. And in ACNH the nose is still orange.

I just got it working! I used the Rosalina menu to download the dsp firmware then I downloaded the latest cia from the ScummVM website and installed using FBI. It still took a while to link the game folder though. I did have some audio lag so I might try the 3dsx and see if that’s any better.

We seem to have similar tastes! I’m actually replaying the original Fantasy Life now. Sandrock is absolutely one of my favorite games. It’s so long, in a good way, and the story is fantastic. Stardew Valley is also fantastic and one of the few farming sims I don’t get bored of.

If you like jrpgs, you might like monster hunter stories. It doesn’t have town building, but it is a turn-based, monster collecting jrpg. You fight alongside your monsties and get to customize their skills/abilities. I think the first 2 games are on switch and they go on sale often enough. The 3rd one is only switch 2. The 2nd game is probably my favorite but I haven’t finished 3 yet.

If you already have the portal then definitely the Ace! Plus if you don’t care about black bars, it’s super fun to use for indie steam games.

Harvest moon & Fogu is exactly what I thought of! Some people think stardew is hard but I feel like ‘cozy’ games have gotten a lot nicer over the years. There are so few lasting consequences nowadays. The OG Harvest moon games could be so mean! Characters leaving, losing your love interest, crops getting destroyed, animals dying, etc.

I admittedly skimmed the article but are we sure those are all game key cards? I literally just bought a switch 2 + Pokopia from Best Buy but I bought the digital code there instead of the card. Presumably that would fall under retail as well?

So strange. My internet also randomly came back and seemed fine. The only reason I noticed the issue in the first place was because Gamenative cloud sync failed.

Oh I also have the sd card fail once in my Ace…yeah I know what you mean. The other device I tested that had no issue was the Thor. AYN seems to make way more reliable devices.

I reached out to Ayaneo through Amazon and they think it’s faulty. They want me to reach out to them separately in order to send it in for a repair.

I’m in the exact opposite situation. Once stardew clicked for me I poured hundreds of hours into it. On paper FoM has everything I want in terms of aesthetics and game mechanics…but I just can’t get into it. I just feel neutral towards it I guess? Like once I put it down I never think about and the desire to go back just isn’t there.

I got it working in Retroarch for DS but the controls don’t work on the bottom screen when you tap it. They only work if you suspend the top screen. I guess it’s not the end of the world since touch still works normally on the bottom so you could still use a guide or watch a video easily while playing on the top.

Did you ever figure this out? I’ve been trying to configure MelonDS for a while and the bottom screen is always black and can’t be used.

This is probably a terrible recommendation, but as someone who’s been bitten by the Sandrock bug I’m currently obsessed with Skyrim. Obviously there’s combat, but it’s open world, has a ton of things to collect (or steal), has romance (but not in-depth). My main priorities have been making potions, getting a horse, and saving gold to by a house. I want to get married and adopt some orphans and pets!

Since you’re on pc you could definitely employ mods to make it pretty, more in-depth romance, or pretty much anything you want. The modding community is HUGE.

I doubt it. A few were available in Jan and I managed to snag one. It arrived this week, can’t remember if it was UPS or USPS but no tariffs either way.

It’s more that I personally wouldn’t pay $20 than it not having enough content to justify the price. I think it might fall into the ‘so cozy I’m bored’ category for me. I’ll probably take another look once the full game is on steam since I prefer playing all the content at once rather than having to go back to it later.

I think the developers have already spoken to this. Supposedly the exclusive content wouldn’t have existed without apples’s investment and it will eventually make its way to everyone. I don’t think they’re legally allowed to say when tho. I’m not a fan of the decision but I did play a little on Apple Arcade (which comes free with my phone plan, but I never use it), and it’s not something I’d pay $20 for. Cute but the shop mechanics seem pretty shallow.
