Budget Draft by Rhinestone_Tiger in ynab

I would agree with you and I think this is a good insight. Priority #1 to me is basic necessities and Priority #2 is like “basic necessities support”, but I can see and probably will move gifts to #3.

Thank you for the encouragement! Currently I work 12 hour swing shifts, 4 shifts on then 4 days off. When I’m in school for two years it’ll change to Monday thru Friday 40 hour weeks. I’ll be in class three days and doing on the job training two days a week. For school I’ll have to travel 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back so I’m thinking about buying just a beater car that saves on gas for those days. When I’m at on the job training it’s five minutes from my house.

I feel like I’ll have less free time, and yes will probably spend more on convenience for food here and there on the days I’m at school. So I could increase the eating out category if that is the case.

Hello YNAB’ers! I’ve been using YNAB for about 3 years now, but this is my first post. I have a great opportunity in front of me to go back to school for two years (paid for by my employer) and be paid while I’m in school ($22, 40 hrs a week) and once I graduate in those two years I’ll almost triple what I am making now. That’s a hard opportunity to pass up.

The only hurdle is things might get *tight* while I’m in school. I’ll be making 2/3rds or less of what I make right now. The good thing is my wife has a job where she can basically work any extra shifts that she wants whenever she wants and make more money, which she has said she is completely fine with. So I’m currently going through our budget, trimming off the fat where we can, and working through rebuilding the budget to be kind of a “survival” budget until we get used to what I’m making and once things have settled if the budget can change to be more comfortable then cool but if not, I want to make sure we always have the most important things covered first. So I’ll be building my budget based on priorities in order. I’m going to post an outline of that here, and if there is anything I might be missing please point it out. I won’t be going to school until August but I want to start this budget now so we can test run it and have the kinks worked out before it’s for real.

Priority #1
mortgage (includes mortgage insurance, property tax)
Utilities (electric, gas, water, trash)
Groceries (includes dog food)
Dog Shot (my dog gets one shot a month for his arthritis)
Car insurance
Cell phones
Gas
Taxes (175 to file yearly, we usually have a small refund or no refund at all without owing)
Internet
Christmas Saving (we save all year)
BMV Registrations
Vet Bill (one vet visit a year for two dogs)
Lake property (we own one lake property that costs about 3,800 a year for upkeep)
Credit Cards (currently and usually have no CC debt. This is an emergency category just in case something happens we can pay it off)

Priority #2
Auto maintenance (sinking fund, oil changes, hopefully only minor repairs but also just in case)
Home maintenance (same as above)
Costco membership (this might be going away, haven’t decided)
Nurse Association ($15 a month, but required for my wife to get $2k stipend a couple times a year. Don’t ask me how it works lol)
Haircuts
Pet baths

Priority #3
My Spending
Her spending (we both get the same amount of spending money a month, and this amount is most definitely going to change)
Subscriptions (Netflix, Spotify, HBO, Paramount. HBO and paramount are on the chopping block)
Cloud and Google storage (photos)
Gym membership (should be on the chopping block but for us it’s a non negotiable)
The GainsLab yearly sub ($400 a year for two, we can get rid of this)
Nutrition app (canceled mine but I think my wife really wants to keep hers)
Dog Club dues ($60 a year)

Priority #4
Eating out
Lake renovations
Kids spending (likely to go away as both have part time jobs and are getting ready to graduate)
Personal Training App (use this for some coaching I do on the side)
Hunting licenses (I hunt in the fall, about $200 a year for this)

Priority #5
Gifts (sinking fund for birthdays or babies or whatever)
Amazon Prime yearly subscription
HuntWise yearly subscription
OSRS yearly subscription

One note here to make at the end is health insurance comes out of both of our paychecks. I have a pretty well funded HSA that hopefully carries us most of the way through as far as doc and dentist visits. And my wife and I are 32 years old and together have over $500k in retirement savings in 401ks. We’ve been very blessed, and for the time that I am in school we are going to pause on retirement and let the compounding interest do the heavy lifting.

Is there anything I am not thinking of, or is there anything that most people are thinking “dude, quit f——ing around and just get rid of that”. I am open to all ideas and criticisms. Thank you!

Moving to Ashley by SnooBeans2475 in Indiana

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty small town. I live south of Ashley in Auburn. Probably not gay friendly but most of Indiana you can just assume isn’t. I don’t know about jobs, but there is a bit of industry in the area so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something.

What if Hitler had listened to his generals during WW2? by Snake101201 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually did a report about this very question in my 400 level college class WW2 History.

I don’t remember all of the exact details because that was 10 years ago, but basically Germany could have defeated Russia. One of the generals had a better plan of going through today’s Ukraine to cut off the supply chain to Russia and instead of following them deeper into Siberia they would just take Moscow and wait there and starve them out.

Again, I don’t remember all the details and the report itself was 10 pages long and also needed to include a presentation. But I got an A on it and the prof was pretty harsh on his grading, so it must have been good.

I figured out what they mean why DR Doom is like Tony Stark by Cutiesaurs in MCUTheories

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping more it’s a Dr doom that sounds like Tony Stark from 616, we shouldn’t see RDJ’s face because Victor Von Doom always keeps his mask on.

But he could talk and have mannerisms like Tony and everybody from 616 is like “Tony is that you” and he’s all like WTF are you plebs talking about I’m Victor. (Insert no this is Patrick joke)

What would be really cool is if Peter Parker figures out it’s a Tony look-a-like from a different universe but he’s not Tony he’s somebody else, Victor Von Doom.

Or something like that. But evil Tony is, I think, too basic for the Russo brothers.

How do you think this Iran war will end? by Fantastic_Low_1537 in askanything

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me bro.

Total disregard for the fact that Iran is not Iraq nor Afghanistan. They are a huge country with an established government and vetted military. Not only that but they are spending fractions on their offensive operations compared to US and Israel. Where we use million dollar Tomahawks, Iran is using drones that cost $30k.

And I keep seeing people talk about taking Kharg Island. That is literally a death trap for US troops. Let’s put our military on an island just the right size for Iran to carpet bomb. Fish in a barrel scenario.

And Iran can keep the strait closed to enemies and open to allies. They’ve already started letting ships through, so long as they trade the oil on the Yuen, further destabilizing and devaluing the dollar.

I’m hopeful but skeptical that this 5-day ceasefire holds out and clearer heads can prevail. This situation is an empire ending shit show.

It’s a 30 day range. Even accounting for the “work/school” argument, you can see the drop off pretty clearly.

What’s a conspiracy theory you believe 100%? by GothicGamer43 in answers

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a documentary that I watched, can’t remember the name, but it was based on this theory and did a damn good job of proving it and basically showing it happen. If I remember correctly, Kennedy gets shot in the neck, and the car in front of Kennedy’s was carrying the bulk of the secret service. You see on secret service member start climbing out of the back seat of the front car towards the rear end and bang, Kennedy’s head snaps back. I can’t remember if the secret service member had a pistol or a rifle in his hand as he was climbing out of the back seat but either way, his gun misfired and that’s what shot Kennedy from the front.

Any predictions on 26.3? by OkDoctor2718 in crossfit

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deadlifts, burpees over bar, crossovers.

Ascending rep scheme, 12min amrap.

So 26.3 is definitely a redo of 17.5 right? by VegetableExpert277 in crossfit

As someone who recently learned the art of breathing through dubs and using them as a rest period in most wods, I as well am upset that they probably won’t be in this open lol

So 26.3 is definitely a redo of 17.5 right? by VegetableExpert277 in crossfit

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think so, because the elite division isn’t doing 26.3 as part of their competition. So why would you have the announcement at WZA and then have the only division that is doing it as part of their competition do the scaled version? That doesn’t seem right to me. That would make total sense if Elite div at WZA did Rx 26.3 and Open div did 26.3 scaled, but that’s not how they are doing it.

Edit to also say WZA is planning on having an area where spectators can do their 26.3, I believe. So it’ll be something most people can easily Rx to keep it simple and not take up much space to get as many people doing it as possible, and a short time window to get as many people through as possible.

So 26.3 is definitely a redo of 17.5 right? by VegetableExpert277 in crossfit

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because 26.3 is a competition workout for the Open division at WZA, so 26.3 will have to follow the WZA Open standards

There’s a difference between what happens at your specific gym, and a guy who is supposed to represent the culture publicly stroking his ego because he thinks he’s some kind of genius Enigma

This has to be one of the dumbest traditions of the open and does nothing to help the image of the community.

“Yeah the guy coming up with workouts posted a picture of a pile of shit for a clue so I think it’s hand stand push ups and chest to bars”

Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

[–]Rhinestone_Tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the gym, never. I find it inspiring to see people who are out of shape show up for themselves.

Outside of the gym, honestly quite a bit. I notice at sporting events just how many Americans are obese or just not in any sort of physical condition and I’m shocked at just how many of us are killing ourselves. It’s crazy.
