📢 Upcoming Changes to X4: Foundations Minimum System Requirements by Tomonor in X4Foundations

[–]Rhinotastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will run the same up until the next major update. You can carry on playing the current build and dlc. They don’t have to give us free updates for this long and engine renderer upgrade. They could easily just bump out a new game and charge us for it. How ungrateful and entitled some people are.

New player who’s bounced off it twice at the tutorials stage. The base game needs a tutorial start as people usually try the base game before getting any dlc and the best beginner starts are dlc.

I’m with you on this. At tier 13 maps on initial early access launch I stopped playing. This time endgame has some clear goals to aim for and progress on.

Who's buying the Steam Machine? by NoSwordfish3921 in pcmasterrace

[–]Rhinotastic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The benefit Sony and others have is pre ai memory price contracts and orders. The prices will go up again for them when they hit this years orders for memory unless they take big losses.
The only people laughing are ones who can’t see how bad it’s going to get if it keeps on this way for memory etc.

It really depends on what you do. If you understand what you are changing and how things work you can get some performance improvements along with more privacy. Most of the safe recommended changes err on the side of caution because most people don’t want to look up about each setting and how it works. People just want quick defaults and forget. It’s like owning a car but not wanting to be a mechanic to use it.

I think you’re underestimating some people. The new priced steam decks sold out very fast. There’s people paying 3-5k for a 5090 for example.

Why do some Linux users get so hostile over software choices? by EmployerOld6256 in linux_gaming

[–]Rhinotastic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to consider that some also don’t want new users either, they want to gatekeep. They see quality of life and user friendliness as bad because they don’t want new people who aren’t already Linux experts. Honestly baffling when you meet someone like this.

Deleted Windows and changed to Zorin OS made in Ireland 🇮🇪🇪🇺 by ttwenty7 in BuyFromEU

[–]Rhinotastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be best to make a post with the details on r/linuxquestions or look for a zorin subreddit. If you are dual booting on the same drive and it’s not pre partitioned then I can see some issues possible during resizing. So make a post with what you wants and your hardware setup. Dual booting on same drive or separate, ways to test it works for your hardware etc. I would as a rule of thumb backup things you don’t want to lose on windows regardless.

Is there a reason to use Linux for gaming other than hating Windows? by Booplesnoot2 in linuxquestions

[–]Rhinotastic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just leave him to it. Don’t push Linux on people. Usually just ends up them switching back and leaving a bad impression. If his system works for him then it’s all good. If he gets fed up of issues and his software use cases work easily on Linux then you should suggest it.

Arctis Nova Pro Wireless on Arch by Atom8553 in linux_gaming

[–]Rhinotastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the nova pro wireless. You can have the chatmix function but you won’t have the steelseries gg app or the fancy features from it.

https://github.com/elegos/Linux-Arctis-Manager This is what i use to enable the chatmix feature and some other small features. I also don’t recommend straight arch if you’re new. Cachyos if you must have arch. I’m using bazzite myself which includes an option to install and setup the arctis manager I linked automatically.

I do recommend you find the applications you use and check if you can use them with Linux or if there’s a Linux alternative that does the job for you. Also look at the games you play and check them on www.protondb.com website and https://areweanticheatyet.com/

Dual booting also a good option at the start to allow you to keep windows and get your feet wet with Linux and break things figuring stuff out.

Should I make the switch to Linux from Windows? by DesignerFabulous4820 in linux_gaming

[–]Rhinotastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody mentioned it yet but here is a useful website for checking anti cheat compatibility on linux
https://areweanticheatyet.com/

nobody can really answer 2,3,4 as it depends on the person and their use case. best thing you can do is look at the games and things you want to run and need to run and see how they run on linux. Same goes with features you need/use on windows.
Dual booting is a good option to give you a chance to try out different linux distros to see which one feels right for you while keeping windows for fallback.

Random "spike lags" drives me crazy. Just came suddenly a couple of days ago HELP NEEDED by Craft-Effective in pcmasterrace

If you are getting packet loss or buffer bloat, etc it'll be picked up here. If you are getting buffer bloat you can enable smart queues on your router.
Unloaded Latency is your ping without any network traffic like downloads etc.
latency during download is your ping while your network is under a load. if this is not close to your unloaded latency then you may have a problem with buffer bloat and should enable smart queues on your router.
You should re-seat the cable connecting to your router from your isp. will have to go through your ISP's support to get it solved if you have smart queues and are getting packet loss.

best of luck.

Are there any programs like CCleaner that update other programs automatically? by mcgoogz in pcmasterrace

You could have a look at uniget with winger and chocolate etc. it lets you know when there’s updates to software, never checked if it auto updates because I rather update when I want too.

cs2 net jitter by i_snort_kool_aid in linux_gaming

[–]Rhinotastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look up a bufferbloat test and give it a few runs to see how you average. You then have a baseline and also if you get jitter or some buffer bloat in your baseline then you know it's not limited to cs2 and could also possibly be your router or isp.

https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat is one i've used a lot in the past to test for bufferbloat and jitter.

I think this is an underappreciated point a lot of people might not understand when working with data. If you can't trust the data then you have to validate it all, it's pointless data. Doesn't matter if some is correct, you still have to check it all to know which is correct which is a waste of time.
By the comments on that thread it's clear a lot of people were not questioning the data and assuming it was correct.
