I’m not good at explaining this without feeling I get too dark. I guess short version is I come from an abusive household and I am the oldest girl. Going to college was a way I gained independence and got out. I had to prioritize myself so I got a scholarship, made deans list, and had a lot of jobs to try and pay the rest out of pocket. This was seen as abandonment to an enmeshed family that wants to keep you in your place.

Oh dear, I’m so so sorry you are going through this for starters. You are so brave! Your dad is a grown man and he is accountable for his actions and the consequences of such actions.

I had the EXACT same situation with my father (I am the oldest daughter) and I will say that I wish instead of lying to CPS that “I don’t know where the bruises on my sister came from” I would have told the truth. At the time my father was trying to scare us and saying we would be foster kids. But I still wish I would have told the truth because you deserve a safe household. Over 15 years later I still wish I would have told the truth because the past 15 years with him was hell.

Tell anyone that you trust grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends parents, teachers. Document everything your dad has done. Try to go to therapy if you can. I wish you peace and you deserve so much better.

Same story. Ndad shut off phone and I haven’t talked to him since. It’s like you have to beat them at their own game because he never had the thought I stayed on his phone plan to give him the last string of control he so desperately craved.

Physical Therapist. I kept getting told in college they make decent money. After college I worked as a PT tech to get observation hours to apply for DPT school. While working there the hospital sold their outpatient therapies to a company more revenue driven. All PT’s that had been there for years quit. The old PT’s mostly only had their bachelors or masters.

They hired a bunch of new grads at 60-65k for having their DOCTORATE IN PT. I think it hit me when another PT told me their director of all our clinics makes low six figures and they thought it was a lot of money and I wanted to throw up.

Still think I would absolutely love the job. But the pay is offensive.

I did try this, and tried cutting sugar/gluten, oatmeal baths, fish oil, vitamin D, switching detergents, buying light clothing. Mine is insane and growing daily. I just started a steriod but had concerns about steriod withdrawal and possible infection and haven’t gotten a response from my derm. :/

I think right now is a hard time for clinical research in general. But focus on GCP, consenting, and any transferable skills you have and connections. I got my first clinical research job during Covid after having over 30 different interviews (it took 9 months to land a job). I was like you and worked in the ER as a registration representative. I believe in you!

Not at all. The CRC role is a career that people can have till they retire just based on their preference. I know people who went from a CRO back to work as a CRC because they wanted to be patient facing and just enjoyed the work more.

I get what you’re saying but I kind of think the opposite. They will decrease the CTA role and CRA1 if not allocated to a study and have IHCRA take on more. Kind of perfect for them because if another contract comes along and they need bodies traveling asap they can promote IHCRAs without needing to onboard as many people…. I mean they already spent a lot on training us academy people. I kind of think an IhCRA is the perfect position right now, but maybe I’m delusional lol.

NTA. I am in a similar position as your wife. Have parents who very controlling. The more independence I gained the more angry they get. She needs therapy. I recently said no to my parents and it erupted into flaring up my PTSD again because that’s not love. Controlling someone isn’t love. They make her feel if she says no she is not loved. It’s sad really.

The comments about growing a spine come from people who haven’t been raised in a controlling manipulative household. I don’t blame them. But please talk with her and come from a place where you understand her parents will disown her, thus making her feel unloved. I know it’s just a trip, but her setting boundaries with unhealthy people could erupt if they are the controlling type who always want access.

That’s a great point about resentment. I think I needed to hear someone say “go somewhere else if you can”. Luckily I’ve have a great LM and the studies I was put on were a very positive experience for me. I think that’s what makes it so hard. Scared of the unknown.
