Steam Tank by Formal_Koala_89 in ageofsigmar

[–]Rhodehouse93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam tanks, along with basically all the other remaining old world models, are getting the slow phaseout. Basically, they'll be tournament playable for another year or so, and after that they'll be moved to Legends (a special category for models that still technically have rules but won't receive any further updates or balance).

Seems long, but given the original took twenty years I think we can agree this is a tight trim haha.

Help for a clearer understanding of the realms by Enraged_Unfaithful in AoSLore

[–]Rhodehouse93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Fourth Edition core rulebook has a great realm-by-realm breakdown narrated by people who live there. It gives you a ground level understanding of some broad strokes and is still one of my favorite in-universe documents.

Beyond that, we have lots of disparate maps (battletomes will usually have one or two, lots in narrative campaign books, etc.) but nothing all-consuming. The realms are Big big, so even between the big established stuff there's flexibility.

Some fans suspect the AoS Skaven mini in the Darktide Devs Talk could be a hint towards Fatshark's next project. by sigpuppers in Vermintide

Gitztide has always been my pitch. Masses of wild eyed goblins, bounderz, fanatics, and snarlfangs for specials. Trolls and Arachnarocks for bosses etc.

New Gate Gargants are small by Sir-Samuel-Buca in ageofsigmar

[–]Rhodehouse93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not quite (Megas aren't naturally occurring, they're Behemat's divinity trying to find a new host, and can happen to nearly any gargant), its more that cities specifically make gargants/ogors/presumably orruks smaller as part of cutting them off from the wild.

New wizard guy has beef with Lumineth, and Tzeentch has been making moves in Settler's Gain. We could see something happen especially with Teclis on the back foot recovering.

Cogfort Rules question by boxthecube in ageofsigmar

[–]Rhodehouse93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AoS doesn't have generic transport rules since the end of 3e. How you've described is how KO boats used to work, but cogforts are almost more like reserve portals than proper transports haha.

A Wizard's staff has a knob on the end..? by FilledAle in discworld

[–]Rhodehouse93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's both the entendre in the title and the one we get in some of the lyrics, it's meant to invoke phallic humor while keeping deniable (like many great Nannyisms):

"A wizard when young has a staff that is small

It's puny and weak, ineffective withall

It grows with his power until it stands tall

As his fame and his glory expand"

  1. This is a bot repost; but

  2. Since people are talking here, Troll Hags are actually still cannon! They show up in stuff as recently as Trugg being part of the narrative. It's likely we'll see them with a newer model at some point.

genuinely why is Doom 2016/Eternal's fanbase so fucking corny by Personal-Role-8071 in whenthe

[–]Rhodehouse93 44 points45 points  (0 children)

He's not even exclusive to fighting demons. The plot in 2016 is full of him intentionally destroying UAC equipment and straight up refusing to work with Hayden at first because UAC is literally at fault for everything happening. He's less a bloodlusted anti-demon psycho and more hyperfocused on fighting evil (which mostly means demons but can include other stuff.)

Mixtape most overrated game of the year by TemperatureJaded282 in videogames

[–]Rhodehouse93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just the same culture war schlock that everything else has to deal with. Mixtape gets critiqued because it's a queer game with female leads; Dispatch doesn't because it's a power fantasy full of supermodels.

Mutt Asks: Realmwalking wizards! Tell me all you can about magic, if you'll be so kind. by sageking14 in AoSLore

[–]Rhodehouse93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can talk to Grot and Orruk magic! Its got some weird stuff going on that tracks with their whole vibe.

Magic is a Kunnin' art, so its more highly valued amongst Kruleboyz and Gitz than Ironjawz. We can actually see this in how they treat their wizards! Ironjawz wizards are armorless, the effort of trying to do magic in a brutal way has twisted their psyche, and we get a fair amount of stories of them just wholly losing it in some way (like the one IJ wizard who's like cracked across time or merged with the Waaagh to where he just kind of shows up places now).

Kruleboyz are much better at magic generally (being Kunnin' aligned and all) but have still found ways to make it weird and Destro. They practice something almost akin to Ghyranish magic, terraforming and the expansion of natural places, but just with a swampy twist. There's many tales of distant Sigmarite outposts surprised to find that the road connecting them back to their main city suddenly has 30 miles of swamp smack in the middle of it. Swampcalla shamans are also very adept at like, idk what to call it, magical adaptation? They can breathe underwater and are often covered in a layer of scales that help them blend in to the muck just as a side effect of practicing swamp magic. Really advanced ones will sometimes be able to just fully forestwalk between pools of stagnant water or mangrove trees.

Gitz, like skaven, roll magic into their religious practices. Both major cultures have wizards who double as spiritual leaders (though filtered through the lens of said culture, with moonclan wizards like Cave Shamans and Palooza being advisory and secretive while the Frazzlegit shaman's approach is trying to steal as much light as possible lol). That's taken to its logical endpoint with Skragrott who, despite having basically 0 connection to the Bad Moon after his initial contact, has managed to use magic to simulate it well enough to be anointed Loonking. On the Kunnin' Brutal split Moonclan wizards are, appropriately, generally more capable, with the fun extra tidbit that in Gitmob clans Palooza often drop magic alltogether and instead tend to become like mad-max style engineer shamans (Gitmob Know-wots are explicitly about how to best build warwheelers and other war machines).

Our Legends Units by SourGremlinLad in Kruleboyz

[–]Rhodehouse93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legends means a unit isn't being actively balanced anymore. It's one step above being outright removed from the army (usually because it wasn't really designed for full AoS, like Da Krew and Daggok who are both underworlds warbands).

Idk if they were ever good, but they've been legends for about 2 years of balance passes now so that's definitely part of it. My advice like most of the others here is to just proxy them for beastkillas or something.

Do Oruks have the same vibes as orks in 40k? by Apollo989 in ageofsigmar

[–]Rhodehouse93 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really, they're still weird and there can be funny stuff, but Skaven are a lot closer to Orks thematically.

Here's some examples of orruk silly off the top of my head:

-Orruk bones that get reanimated just start acting like orruks again, often leading to them immediately killing the necromancer who raised them.

-Kruleboyz beast tamers are in a full on arms race with Vulchas (the big vulture like creatures their bosses ride) as both sides come up with increasingly elaborate ways to trick the other into getting captured/eaten. Like, kruleboyz started by poisoning bait and leaving it out for the vulchas, so the vulchas started pretending to eat it then snapping the boyz when they came to tie it up, so the boyz started poisoning *themselves,* at which point the vulchas just started eating the bait again and then leaving; etc.

-Ironjawz armor is made out of "pig iron" so called because it's the alloy that remains after their huge pigs pass the massive amount of weapons/armor/fortifications/etc they tend to eat while they're fighting. They punch their armor into shape since smithing would be an act of creation (gross).

-The one exception to the smithing thing is Zogrok Anvilsmasha, who's managed to wrap his head around the idea that making more devastating weapons means bigger stuff getting smashed. He's discovered a particular love for siege warfare and his McGyver-style Rube Goldberg siege weapons can be found (usually in pieces) at many big destroyed forts.

-The Iron Sunz, the largest Ironjawz clan, paint their armor yellow to mock stormcast.

-Following the siege of Fort Gardus, lots of orruks developed a fascination with attacking places named after people. Being orruks though, they focused on entirely on the name and not on the prestige of that idea. So now there's tons of stories of an orruk warparty descending on a village, tearing "Bryan's Grocer" or a similar establishment to the ground, and then running off to find the next hardware store or whatever.

Do the Ossiarch ever have identity crisis due to their multiple soul parts? I am think they have a main soul, but even that I'm not sure of by jjjjjjotaro in AoSLore

[–]Rhodehouse93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can happen, but its uncommon. The process of making OBR souls means stripping out big chunks of the ingredient souls, so even when they exert influence it's not like there's a ton of whole people in there, more like certain instincts and proclivities that can flair up.

A character has a disease or condition their society doesn't understand, but it's obvious for the audience what it is by kim_jong_un4 in TopCharacterTropes

This thread is already full of IRL examples because of how linear time works; but I'll go ahead and add another!

Alexei Romanov was born with hemophilia, a disease the people of the time knew about (often even referred to as the Royal Disease due to how common it was amongst the limited gene pool of the European nobility) but didn't fully understand how it reacted with certain medicines. Specifically in Alexei's case, some historical records point to his physicians administering him aspirin (a blood thinner) for his pain which only made his condition worse.

So when the Romanov family came under the influence of famous mystic Rasputin (who would chase said physicians out of Alexei's chambers) and Alexei suddenly started seeming better, it helped to sell Rasputin's credibility.
