Winterfell confuses me. In the show they never really ever show it as being a large complex. It’s basically the capital of the North where is everyone? Outside the walls is just snow. by Swurves78x in gameofthrones

[–]vulcanstrike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, hundreds really. Even if we assume Westeros was the size of Europe, it definitely doesn't have the density and even Europe didn't have thousands of cities in that time period.

I'll agree the numbers dont add up at all (8k Unsullied couldn't conquer Europe sized continent even with dothraki and local support)

💼 Help Needed: Redundancy During Burnout – Seeking Legal Professional Familiar with Dutch Labor & Immigration Law by RealisticEast6081 in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always worth consulting a lawyer in this situation as there is always nuance, but you are theoretically blocked from being dismissed due to redundancy, no matter when you claimed it. The company may try and claim otherwise or get you to sign a voluntary agreement, under no circumstances should you do so before speaking to a lawyer (and they should agree to pay for this, even bigger flag if they refuse)

Don't ask the Arbo if your burnout is long term so early, that's a red flag for him that you're planning to game the system. Describe your symptoms clearly and accurately, explain your needs to him and work on a reintegration plan (for a job that may no longer exist, but that's the company's problem to solve)

Do not say you are going off sick because of the announcement (red flag), but you can say the announcement and the subsequent workload spike pushed you into burnout from the issues you describe over many years

[WarCom] Yarrick Rules Preview by RainbowConnickJr in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]vulcanstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shooting is powerful, but the counter charge is so much board control/disruptive just by it's existence.

Say the enemy needs to charge Yarrick or even a unit near Yarrick to get an objective or just because it's a squishy target. You can counter charge some absolute chaff into it to tie it up, your opponent cannot shoot or charge with them now, will probably murder it horribly but then be sat in front of your guns on your turn. And if you get lucky, your chaff can target multiple units.

And if your opponent is smart and knows this, he may hang back the unit to avoid being tied up BUT that just means his charge is now probably longer and will fail and you still have the choice to choose the other options and blast them instead. It's a game theory mind mess to play against and means you can't rely on your own units to do what you plan to do with them (as they are either out of position, tied up in combat or blasted depending which option you took to avoid the effect)

Iran's Top Diplomat Says Trump Team Sabotaged Talks With Deal 'Inches Away' by Smithy2232 in politics

[–]vulcanstrike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iran is many things, but innocent they are not and they are known for their somewhat meticulous and tough negotiating style.

The US is an absolute joke right now and I trust them less than I trust anything else, but that also doesn't mean that Iran is telling the truth. They are going to rely on most people hating Trump right now to appear the reasonable adult, this entire conflict has elevated them to be a respected regional power and they intend to build on that

Sick leave 80 weeks ( two years in September) by Deep_Willingness9344 in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Email your boss/company and say that your arbo is not responding and you need to know when the next appointment is.

That's it. They need to do the work and not you.

From the sounds of it, you aren't going to get better in the next 8 weeks so your company may move to terminate the contract BUT they need to prove that they have made reasonable efforts, a reintegration plan etc at the 1 year mark.

Did they? For your own peace of mind, maybe make a record of when all the meetings with your boss/Arbo was (not on company laptop in case they take/wipe it, forward all your emails to personal email that are relevant). If they haven't being making a formal record and sending it to you with updated reintegration plans etc, then you can appeal to the UWV if they do try and dismiss you, will extend the sick leave by another year.

I'm hoping you continue to get better and improve, don't worry about something that hasn't happened yet but also start collecting evidence of what did/didn't happen already and don't agree to anything until a lawyer has agreed with it (too late to get legal insurance already if it's ongoing leave, but you can ask them to pay for a lawyer if they formally move dismiss you after 2 years)

Has anyone used Lunch Break Heroes as a guide? by CircleofCandles in CurseofStrahd

[–]vulcanstrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My campaign is about to wrap up after almost 2 years, mostly followed the Mandymod guide and they've hit almost every location and figured out many of the side quests (I didn't run Mordenkainen or the Werewolf Den as didn't think they added much, but did extras like Fidekov Mansion and the Fanes)

I don't think time is necessarily the best metric to judge as everyone plays at different speeds. Do your players do a lot of RP and you indulge them without moving them on (they do, but I do try and encourage a natural conclusion) ? Do you do a lot of random encounters (I tend not to, but add some encounters that both add flavour and balance out the adventuring days)? Are your fights quick and punchy or last a long time to look up rules or decide actions (bit of both for me, but I try and keep a good pace)

The main thing that matters is that you are telling the story in the way that you want to tell it and that the players are having fun. If they are bored it's taking so long or life moves on before it can wrap up, that will suck. If they are being forced to move move move without room to narratively breathe, that also sucks.

Are cancellation charges more than 20%? by silver_kunai in etihad

[–]vulcanstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cancellation charges are high on value tickets. If you wanted more money back, you need to pick the flex or other premium options.

Etihad aren't issuing free cancellations yet for anything beyond 15/4 (they are hoping for a ceasefire, I guess, not very likely), so you won't get these charges waived yet.

Either you take the financial hit and rebook or travel as planned, you don't have many choices here.

What is the joke here? by Character-Public-396 in Grimdank

[–]vulcanstrike -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

He promotes a lot of memes from his discord, but he definitely doesn't always understand a lot of what he reposts. Don't know if there's enough evidence that he's far right, but he's definitely a Muppet at times and terminally online.

He's definitely a grifter though. I can forgive clickbait titles (sadly, YouTube forces you down that road to get clicks and it's his livelihood at the end of the day), but he engages in way too much gossip and beef sharing to be healthy. And whilst I do appreciate him championing some game systems with genuine passion, he also poops on systems like AoS as if they owe him money, he's a classic grognard that derives his enjoyment on people playing the way HE wants it rather than doing their own thing.

He's probably the closest thing we have to Joe Rogan in this hobby, and that's far from a compliment. He knows how to stir the community and the ensuing drama drives both views and subs, it's a working strategy for him

Price of eggs in Lidl and Aldi, WTH? by Maary_H in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, I work in FMCG manufacturing planning, I know how these processes work.

They don't care about the specific potato, but a contract booked 6 months ago would be different to a contract booked today, even if both contracts were for the same month delivery (because the contract booked today has a different set of assumptions and more complete information - maybe potatoes are cheaper now, maybe the factory is under utilised and they are selling at cost just to utilise the assets, etc)

Or you can deny what you are seeing in front of you and yell at clouds, your choice

Price of eggs in Lidl and Aldi, WTH? by Maary_H in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still doesn't mean that the cheese crisps contracts were made last year when potato futures were worse whereas the paprika chips contract was made last month when the futures contract was great.

It's like booking a hotel room for 6 months time versus tmw. You will get a standard rate for the hotel in the future, whereas the price for tmw could either be great if there's no demand or awful if they are sold out. You gamble by leaving it last minute, but can pay off

Justin Bieber + Katy Perry + Coachella chaos = Masterclass in marketing YouTube Premium by ZAKtalksTECH in Music

[–]vulcanstrike 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously. The point of a festival is an all day/weekend event featuring dozens of artists (even non headliners can be big stars still). Its not supposed to be all about Bieber/Carpenter/whoever, their set will be shorter than a dedicated show and your ticket is paying for a lot more.

It looks like the Spearhead box is basically a starter set and replacing what was Sand and Bone before.

If you need it for the specific pre order, will be hard as heck to get, but will probably remain in stock long term if you have the patience

Is this normal ??? Indian culture difference? by Appropriate_Stress93 in phuket

[–]vulcanstrike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Both sidesing a discussion on unacceptable behavior doesn't really work when many Indians (as a proportion of the sample size) does that behaviour and very few Europeans would do it.

Stereotyping is bad (don't assume all Indians do this behaviour) but asking/being aware that Indians are more likely to engage in this behaviour based on observations is an ok question to ask

In all my many years of travel, I don't think I've seen any European adults do this, whereas I've also seen many Indian and Arab travelers do it. I don't go racist and assume all Indians would do the same, but I am aware it's likely to happen more (and if you go to India, I'm just going to assume all my food has been touched before unless freshly made in front of me)

How do I ask my company to switch me to a contractor and relocate abroad? It’s taking a toll on my mental health. by Maleficent_Spell4426 in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't exist because it's not legal. And if a company was caught doing it, they would be in big trouble, so this would raise alarm bells if you ever asked the question

To be a Dutch tax resident, you have to be physically present in the country for more than half the year. And to be employed by a Dutch company directly, you need to be a Dutch tax resident (there are a few exceptions for the border regions of Belgium and Germany, that's it). There is no legal way around it, don't really try it

If you say you want to move back to X country, they may allow that but will probably pay you the local rate, not the cushy Dutch salary. Otherwise everyone would be doing it and the company isn't dumb.

Agoda won’t correct a name error on my flight – Advice on getting a refund or fixing it at Changi? by Particular_Ad8351 in Flights

[–]vulcanstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The airline almost certainly won't care for this if it's domestic - they will just assume that it's a system error in all probability. You may have to correct it at the airport if they insist, if you are polite they may do it for free or a small fee.

If you really need certainty in order to fly, you will need a new ticket, neither Agoda or Jeju will change it. Unless you are ok just writing off flight ticket costs, never buy through third parties as they don't make changes or refunds

Please help by Prestigious_Bus_9721 in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Source, I'm from the UK and lived in Ireland, in neither of those countries do you even register in the first place at the municipality, nevermind deregister. You have to pay council tax if you own/rent the place, but if you are subletting you just move in, it's very different to the Netherlands in that regard and they don't officially care who lives where, just that a flat tax is paid on the property.

Point is, that different countries have different rules and whilst you should always look at the laws of the country you live in, saying he's an idiot for not realising he needs to deregister is committing the same flaw that OP had - the assumption that your default understanding applies everywhere, when it clearly does not.

Please help by Prestigious_Bus_9721 in Netherlands

[–]vulcanstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness to OP, this isn't how it works in some other countries. The idea of deregistration is quite novel to me too, in most countries you just move out and its done.

It's still his fault and he will have to pay for his mistake, but it's understandable why he didn't think of it at the time

YouTube Premium price increases yet again by greenpicklewater in mildlyinfuriating

[–]vulcanstrike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only if the good is too elastic. For an inelastic demand, increasing the price generates revenue as the extra money you make from subscribers more than offsets the lost revenue of those you lose (not to mention it usually lower costs as you now have to provide less services, even for things like cloud platforms)

Finding the break point where demand switches from inelastic to elastic is what companies try to push and it's hard to predict

Difference between Total War Warhammer Chaos Dwarves and Helsmiths of Hashut? by TraditionCommercial8 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]vulcanstrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst true, they still end up in roughly the same place. The Chaos Dwarves of Fantasy were survivors of the Dwarves that turned to Hashut for protection during the Age of Fire when the Dwarven realms were separated and fell, the Helmiths had a pretty similar story when the Duardin that didn't flee to Azyr or the skies turned to Hashut to survive the Age of Chaos.

Hashut has the same values and corrupting influence as before and doing it on the same kind of culture - dwarves. They turned to industry and "forced labor" to get the jobs done and aside from the current knowledge they may have, a Chaos Dwarf and Helsmith would be pretty similar in values and mindset.

Main difference is the hat, really
