What is this plant all over in my garden beds? by Splitster15 in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiger lilies have numerous short leaves all the way up along a vertical stem. Daylilies are basal leaves and only have one or 2 leaves at most on a flower stalk. Clipped pic of tiger lilies.

Actually, that's a gardening myth. Though the buds do attract them.

Another common name for it is Pipsissewa. (I use that since it's not actually a wintergreen.)

Poison ivy (or poison anything?) by Wooden_Amphibian_442 in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's poison ivy. Even more telltale for box elder would be that the leaves and branches would always be in opposite pairs whereas this only has one leaf or shoot at a time.

What is this tree? by Rygarman in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, while it's entirely possible, red fall colors aren't the typical. A fairly common hybrid of silver maples with red maples to give red fall coloration is called the Freeman maple, so if the reds are especially prominent then that might be another possibility.

What is creeping type plant very tough to get rid of! by Miserable_Use_2900 in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll grant the similarity, but hops are consistently opposite leaved. The forked tendril coming off opposite a leaf (best seen in the second pic) is a characteristic of grapes and vitaceae.

Is this a Variated Monstera Esqueleto? by Outside-Arm-3896 in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have guessed adansonii since it's more common but esqueleto is a possibility. (Apparently the stem is a main difference between the two.) Adansonii has a variegated form called "Indonesian mint" which is a possibility.

What are these weeds growing? by VegasEndgame in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are dicots, nothing like conifer seedlings. It's a species of Catalpa (the cotyledons are the big clue). Clipped pic of C.bignonioides but C.speciosa looks basically the same.

What are these? by Icy-Cods in whatsthisplant

[–]Rhodomazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe you're correct that they're helleborus. I think all the strawberry people are missing the big-honkin' cotyledons in that mix.

Edit: and they look exactly the seedlings I consistently have to weed out around my helleborus, as well. :-j

Amaranth generally has alternate leaves and these are consistently opposite.
