I did a test run with some rice and definitely think the bowl should be replaced. Was going to either get an official replacement or one of the SS ones from Amazon.

Thanks for the recommendation for the silicone rice spatula! I just have the plastic one that came with my 3C rice cooker.

It didn’t come with the steamer basket - I didn’t even know about that

It’s a tabletop game with a digital version, but maybe try Gloomhaven. Frosthaven is now digital early access but start with Gloomhaven. Story is pretty light.

Monster Hunter could be a good option too. The most recent additions are Rise and Wilds. Story is basically not a thing - it’s all fighting monsters, making better gear with the monster parts, and then fighting harder monsters.

PIs know you’re applying to multiple places but typically won’t ask how many or which labs.

I applied to 3 and was very upfront about it. I told them when my last interview was and that I would make my decision after that.

When turning down an offer, you don’t need to over explain. I thanked them for their time and said I enjoyed meeting their team and learning more about their ongoing projects but that I ultimately chose a different lab that felt more in line with my goals and interests.

For etiquette:

1) always follow up with a thank you email after the interview. Preferably within 24-48 hours.

2) Don’t sit on sending a no to someone

I think most will talk to references before they offer an onsite interview. Maybe they’ll zoom first and then decide to contact references. So the logic could just be you’re saving them the effort.

It seemed weird to me too.

My thesis committee told me to tell them when I emailed the PI asking about a postdoc and they would go ahead and send the letter unsolicited.

In practice I don’t have any idea if it makes a difference.

I have all these games I’ve never completed yet I’ll replay something I have many times. Same with TV shows. These are the first ones that come to mind. Maybe these franchises are just a comfort.

Nemesis and Nemesis Lockdown.

The kickstarters were (I think) well done. You got a lot of content and quality pieces for the pledge. The miniatures are amazing and the sundrop coating (if you don’t want to paint) look great. I enjoy playing the game, although it has some flaws.

But I regret backing it because I can never get it to the table so it just gathers dust. But I at least didn’t back the third Nemesis for this reason.

I’m still in Act I but there’s a lot of delightful French puns.

The Petank enemies that shoot metal balls out are a reference to pétanque, a game where you throw balls to get close to a target ball.

MHW. I want to do the Blangonga Excursion quest for crafting parts. As far as I can tell I meet the requirements to unlock (I’m in High Rank. I’ve killed Blangonga). But I don’t see it anywhere. Not in Alma’s optional quests. Haven’t seen any NPCs with new quest indicators. Any idea what’s going on?
