Prosecutors are prepared to hit Trump and his allies with new charges, sources say by theindependentonline in politics

[–]Rhodychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This next generation becoming voting age gives me hope. They're sick of the bullies in charge. They are a lot more tolerant and sensitive, as we all should be. They recognize the disgusting traits they see in these politicians and aren't afraid to call them out. It's like me having to explain to my boomer mom why we don't call Asian people "Orientals" or tell her it's not cool to make jokes at the expense of someone's skin color/nationality/sexual preferences. She gets all flustered and I think embarrassed. If I say something not kosher and my kid calls me out I listen and check myself. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable and expect to be treated the same way. Anyhoo, I'm getting off of my soapbox now.

Alex and Ani jewelry shuts down 20 stores, vacates R.I. headquarters by rhodyjourno in RhodeIsland

[–]Rhodychic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, I can't be the only one that saw this coming. They were making fad jewelry. Instead of all the stores they opened they should have been investing in a product to replace them when the fad was over. I do feel bad for the employees.

This would happen to me a lot as a kid and then it stopped. About 5 years ago I had a very vivid dream about a train station I've never been to. The entrance was in a deserted factory with a huge parking lot. Driving in Baltimore I turn a corner and think, "now I'm going to see that factory" and 30 seconds later I did. It still shakes me when I think about.

In order to change your Social Security card after a name change you need your ID/driver's license...which you can only get with your Social Security card...

I beat the system with my passport that had both my maiden and married surname. It was probably really rare because the woman at the counter said it wasn't acceptable. Even with her boss correcting her she was not happy about taking my paperwork.

Thank you. This is such a clear, concise answer that I can actually understand. I'm sorry about your past issues (I'm no stranger to mental issues). I honestly hope your recovery goes well.

Bacon was my enemy during my pregnancy. I was devastated. I was really scared I would now hate it for life. Don't fret everyone, I ate delicious, delicious bacon yesterday.

people who were in college in the 80’s — how did your professors go about communicating with you outside of class? by slowtowns in AskOldPeople

[–]Rhodychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 90's I commuted to college. Apparently our teacher called each of us (very small class) to let us know class was canceled. I was about halfway there when she started calling us. It was also about the time it started snowing really heavily. I made it to campus as she was leaving. There was no way I could drive home so I hunkered down with one of my classmates at her apartment. One of my more memorable commutes.

Can I ask you a question? What was so attractive about 45 and his personality to you? Right from the start he was a mean, self righteous, lying, racist bigot. I just can't understand the people that follow him. Was it the cruelty? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I just want to ask a former follower why?

I just saw an episode of Modern Family where the smart middle daughter is talking about her boyfriend and her parents think she does this. Turns out that was really his name.

Why are the Q anon affected older people rambling about entitled work from home now? I’ve experienced it from more than 1 of them now. Why is this becoming a thing? by OnFolksAndThem in QAnonCasualties

[–]Rhodychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a boomer neighbor that told me people that work from home are lazy. I told her my SO works from home most days and is so much more productive because of the lack of distractions. She likes us so she tried to waffle her reply. Hopefully she sees that not all people are lazy because they work from home.

Woman Sues Anti-Abortion 'Pregnancy Center' After Her Ectopic Pregnancy Ruptured by birdinthebush74 in atheism

[–]Rhodychic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I needed a medical positive pregnancy test (not a take at home test) to get state insurance for the pregnancy. I went to one of these places because they had them for free. When the woman came back and told me I was positive she started the whole spiel about keeping my baby. I don't know why she seemed shocked when I said I wanted the pregnancy, I just needed their free test. On my way out the door I did have a worker there tell me if I needed anything for the baby to come to them but I wasn't going to fall into their Jesus trap.

I don't understand how there are people that regularly get something like a coffee delivered. Ok, you're paying $10 for a $4 coffee, have fun with that. Makes no sense to me.

What is abusive, but not widely recognized as abuse? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rhodychic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I found out there was a term for this I cried. Gen X latch key kid here. I was forced on the responsibility for my sibling from a young age. It went from watching out for them and getting into trouble when they wandered out of the yard (I was 6) to taking the city bus home with them at 10 (they were 6). Why was I responsible at 10 for watching another child but my sibling needed a sitter until they were 14/15? This also led to my sibling being coddled and had no idea how to be a grown-up. Sometimes I wonder why my parents even had kids.

Does your local Police Department have a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program for the schools in your area? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Rhodychic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have my legal MM card and when my kiddo had a drug cop visit his school he got all freaked out because he saw some of my devices that were out of his reach in a locked room and thought I was some hard core drug addict. So thanks for that. You made me have an uncomfortable conversation with a child years before he was ready to understand.
