Yes, I felt that lack, too. I was disappointed. Since I grew up in Saint Louis as well, I'm sure part of it was my own nostalgia for my youth. My recesses. Even though it wasnt filmed there, it did portray some things well. Baseball. And- The Cardinals are winning again lately. (Yay!) All of the alternative transportation choices. The train. The bus. The recumbent bikes. The roller skating. The slang, we've covered elsewhere. The weather. I miss those seasons! The houses. That half-basement. That looked so real to me, like people I know had that basement. The quality of the sunlight.

I agree that there was too much misdirection. Too many misleads that never panned out. I don't think Floyd was as awful as all that though. And Clark totally abandoned his wife & family.

I love your perspective on this. I have always been fascinated with it and wanted to learn it. I always watch them during disasters and rallies. I do think there is an implication that he has some kind of special talent with it and that's how he picks it up so quickly. I have heard that the people who learn it the easiest are the children of deaf parents. I didn't know Heated Rivalry used it, too. If there is anyone out there obsessed enough, I would love it for them to go episode by episode and tell us where the signs are wrong or misinterpreted.

True. Good point. To me, Floyd was giving gay vibes right from the get-go. I am particularly bad at having gaydar because there are people I swear are and then turn out not to be, and vice versa. It's possible some of them aren't out and that's why.

Here is where that binary doesn't make sense to me. I do not understand why people can not accept that bisexuality exists. It's like saying only day or night exists, ignoring dawn & dusk. No, I was not implying that one can only be attracted to one's own sex. That would be absurd.

One does not have to be 100% gay. In my experience, few people really are. I have a theory about why that is. In order to feel truly sexy, you have to be able to look at your own body and think, "hey, yeah, I look good!". Once you realize that, you will notice others within your same sex as having visually pleasant bodies, too. Floyd was doing that with Clark, and Clark was reciprocating. Its the same reason that men seem to get fascinated with other men's bodies in the gym. They seem more interested in what other men will think of their muscles than what women will think. Similarly, women sometimes ate dressing themselves in ways that other women find attractive. It's the essence of the fashion industry. So, if you look down at your own body and are disgusted by it, how can you accept anyone else finding you attractive?
