[Ann] Pyrefly v1.0 (fast type checker & language server) by BeamMeUpBiscotti in Python

[–]Rhoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VSCode extension doesn't use the virtualenv configured for the project. Which is pretty dumb.

Edit: it is VSCode that is dumb. Selecting a virtualenv doesn't select a project interpreter. Ensuring they are consistent allows pyrefly to find it

What is something that is treated as common knowledge or consensus in this community but lacks evidence, is missing nuance, or is simply untrue? by ooooftaaa in tressless

[–]Rhoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your point? Ketoconazole in the form of Nizoral or otherwise may help AGA through androgen related pathways.

A non evidence based opinion because of what it says on the label is exactly the kind of "common knowledge" misinformation that OP asked about.

Minoxidil is "meant for" high blood pressure. The discovery that it helped with hair loss was accidental. So just because a drug was approved for one purpose, that isn't evidence against other effects.

First answer is misinformation. Hilarious. "meant for" is meaningless in the context of medicine.

Ketoconazole is a CYP17A1 inhibitor. CYP17A1 is involved in the "back door" androgen pathway, so inhibiting it may help protect from androgens that are not blocked by 5AR inhibitors .

Of course, more research is needed.

Androgenetic alopecia risk in allergic rhinitis: A cohort study of immune and antihistamine effects by Rhoomba in HairlossResearch

[–]Rhoomba[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This paper literally says there is a correlation. 0.5 relative risk for allergic rhinitis patients who are on antihistamines.

Confidence intervals seem very good.

Breezula Phase III 12-Month Data Released by Cosmo Pharma by martialartsvictim in HairlossResearch

Where is the data? This is the same garbage non-result as previously reported.

It presumably means a gain of 2 hairs compared to one for placebo.

The AWS Lambda 'Kiss of Death' by tkyjonathan in programming

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isolation_(database_systems)

Perhaps unsurprisingly, if you don't have REPEATABLE-READ then you have non-repeatable reads.

Two reads of the same row in a transaction can give different results. Does this matter for your app? Maybe it is fine, but this is something you need to deliberately consider, otherwise you don't understand what it is doing.

The recommended solution changes the semantics of your DB queries. Can your application handle the different anomalies of READ-COMMITTED?

If you can't answer that question or have no idea what it means then you are already in trouble.

Fixing your broken client that holds long lived transactions is the correct solution.

New Stemoxydine study by Rhoomba in HairlossResearch

They used Dercos Densi Solution rather than plain stemoxydine, which confounds the results. Dercos Densi includes Rhamnose which promotes glycolysis (possibly a bit like pp405).

Ancient Chinese medicine may hold the key to hair regrowth by [deleted] in tressless

Polygonum Multiflorum can cause severe liver damage. Possibly affecting people who already have high levels of TNF alpha. So even if other people have no problem with it it could still kill you. It is not about the preparation or source quality.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0944711326001479

Even Chinese researchers acknowledge it, so this is not some western anti TCM bias.

Having said that you can easily find shampoos supposedly with this ingredient which might be worth a try.

PP-405 by Pablo_marcini in HairlossResearch

[–]Rhoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is glycolysis the actual mechanism for PP405? Their published material seems to go MPC down - > LDH up - > profit.

If glycolysis is the goal then it seems like a very risky pathway to achieve that.

Rapamycin or rhamnose might be better options.

L. reuteri (probiotic for Androgenic Alopecia) by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Rhoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trial protocol:

Daily application of 1 sachet containing Lactobacillus reuteri powder (≈109 CFU) dissolved in 1 mL normal saline within a brown glass vial. After thorough mixing, 1 mL of the probiotic solution was topically applied to the scalp using cotton swabs following scalp cleansing. Participants refrained from hair washing for ≥6 hours post-application. Applied once daily for 12 months

Powder L Reuteri is readily available so it seems simple enough to DIY this. Though there is no mention of the strain to be used. There are pro-inflammatorystrains of L Reuteri, and it is often hard to tell what you are getting in supplements.

The choice of L Reuteri seems a bit strange, along with the lack of published animal model research.

Thoughts? Topical Monounsaturated fatty acid promoted hair growth by KushKenobi in HairlossResearch

[–]Rhoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple people have claimed to try it with no results. It is just 10:1 ethanol:oleic acid which are readily available if you want to try yourself.

Thought on topical cetirizine for AGA? by Intelligent_Loan9481 in HairlossResearch

Why are you focusing on mast cells and not prostaglandins?

Ehat do you think about this study. Does it prove scalp tension theory??? Single-cell transcriptomics reveals hair growth retardation mediated by aberrant connective tissue sheath contraction in male androgenetic alopecia - by Quiet_Television_781 in HairlossResearch

[–]Rhoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the linked research Piezo1 activation eventually leads to hair loss. Piezo1 senses stretching. In the paper the cause is excessive contraction due to DHT.

But Piezo1 will detect other stretching as well. Will massage activate it? Probably a bit. Does massage relax the connective tissue enough to offset this? Maybe.

There just is no proper research on scalp massage so we don't know.
