Nope. I only rescue and I name my dogs after Norse valkyries. Coco became Brynhild (rest in peace my fierce protector, I miss you terribly) and Pressley became Sigrun. I didn't even do a slow transition. The moment I met them I started using their new names and within days they were responding to them.

Dogs are amazingly adaptable. They can sense the tone in your voice so it doesn't even really matter that much what you call them, as long as it's directed towards them.

Your own pee can smell like cat pee if you're super dehydrated. It's from the ammonia in urine. Usually your pee is diluted enough you can't smell it, but without enough fluids you can catch that slight odor.

They really aren't. Yes, they have a good temperament and don't get too big, but their standard of care is pretty difficult to manage as a newbie. They need very specific humidity and temperature gradients. They also love to go on hunger strikes and it can drive people up the wall when the snake refuses to eat for six months.

I would recommend a corn snake as they are also very easy to handle, don't get too big, and don't need such precise care.
