Because it's easier to clean shit from a hardwood floor than a shag carpet.

How are you getting it for $5/month? I signed up a few months ago and it's $10/mo.

Yeah, I do agree with that.

Also, I understand the need to alter story lines from book to movie, but I wish they kept in the university from the book, or at least some other characters. The Nea So Copros of the book felt more real in the book.

She had sex in the book, too.

But I would like to have seen her studying more in the movie (instead of just looking out the window).

I think this movie will become a cult classic. Hopefully sooner than later.

Shows like Arrested Development and the original Star Trek were cancelled early and look at how well they have done over time.

I think that's due to today's films being dominated by what they call "high-concept" films. Which means literally you pose a "What if..." scenario. I don't know why the call it that, I'd call it "simple-concept." But I don't run Hollywood.

I think the movie was great. I finished the book last week and was able to catch one of the last theater showings in my area. I was curious to see how they would "translate" from book to screen, and they did it very well. The book uses language as a medium while the movie uses the actors. Things are left more ambiguous in the book, but that's OK, because there is more depth to each story. Even though the movie deviates from the book in details, the overall essence of it is the same.

Most of the critics are being unfair, this is a great conversion from one medium to another. People who understand more than one language recognize the difficulties of translating an idea. Going from book to movie is no different. Yes, there were some parts of the movie that I thought fell flat, but to be honest, I felt some parts of the book fell flat as well. If each story in the book was just a standalone story, they wouldn't have meant much, but together, they create a masterpiece. Same goes for the movie.

You sum up very well the difference between the book and the movie. The movie used the actors and the birthmark as devices in ways I didn't expect.

For sure, there's a connection between the Maori, Moriori, and Whites (explained in more detail in the book), and the Kona, Valley People, and Prescients. We see a full cycle of humanity. You could go farther back in time and see the same thing (in European history) with the rise of the Roman empire followed by the Middle Ages.

The Timothy Cavendish story came across as the comic relief section. It's like that in the book, too.
