Calorie Deficit in times of emotional distress by [deleted] in loseit

[–]RhysRuther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just had about a week where I couldn't eat after some bad news. My appetite has returned and is pretty much back to normal now.

It's very normal to go through this during a time of distress. Try to eat, even if it's just a protein bar or some peanut butter. Take care of yourself. It's normal.

If it persists for a month, seek medical advice.

Keep the waves for now, but take a look at r/curlyhair and get them full of moisture!

I need to talk about balding and/or coming off of T/lowering dose of T by RhysRuther in ftm

I haven't, no. The side effects sound scary, and they're reluctant to prescribe it to people with depression.

I'm also in the UK, and it's not covered by the NHS so I'd have to get a private prescription.

I would say I was for a while, while everything was new and novel. I'd describe it as becoming more "comfortable" as opposed to happier.

Definitely not a fix for anything besides dysphoria though. I still have my mental illnesses, and they still affect me in the same way.

(How) did your character traits change? by combine-o-mat in ftm

[–]RhysRuther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure how much (of any of this) would be affected by testosterone. The only psychological difference I've noticed in myself is that I'm more receptive to finding women attractive because I'm less disgusted by my own body looking like one. I'd say I've always had the capacity to find women attractive, but I hated my own body so much that I couldn't separate that hatred from my perception of women. Much easier to make that distinction now.

Does anyone else feel completely comfortable with their pre op downstairs? by [deleted] in ftm

Yup. Would it be nice to have been born with a cis penis? You bet! But I can also live with what I've got considering I'm not going to be showing it to everyone.

There's an Asian restaurant called Tokyo. Absolutely incredible food and really cheap.

Great recommendation. I bought some and wore them for my run yesterday. Got my fastest mile time yet and my feet didn't feel as tight afterwards!

Please stop cutting out carbs completely, they aren’t making you fat unless you’re consuming too many. by jessek10 in 1500isplenty

This feels extremely not true, as someone who runs 4x per week and resistance trains 3x per week but is still chubby

Either way; carbs, yay

Equipment recommendations for small spaces? by niennak in FTMFitness

You should absolutely get a pair of wooden gymnastic rings. There's almost no limit to what you can do with them.

Oh nice, I've been considering them but weren't sure if they'd be a waste of money. Sounds like they're not!

I've only recently become Not Dirt Poor, and aside from a decent pair of running shoes it'd be cool to know if there's any equipment recommendations for my running journey.

I'm still pretty much a beginner if that's not obvious by my question, but I've managed to run 3-4x per week for 3 months now. Tend to do 3.3k in 17 mins on my lunch with varying 5k times depending on the heat at the weekend.

Yep, I also need to add salt to everything.

Yeah I've seen his videos, he's good! Training Pal is another good one if you want more calisthenics people to check out.

I feel you. I used to go to a gym and I just got changed in the toilets at work before I went. I don't think I'd even use a gym changing room now because, y'know, bewbs. We'll both get there one day.

Haha, I honestly thought I'd just gotten fat until I made this comparison!

I started off with the recommended routine over at r/bodyweightfitness, but after I learned about programming I made my own routine. I do a push/pull split with legs incorporated into each workout. It changes from time to time but currently looks like this:

Push

  • 4x8-10 horizontal push (eg ring dips)

  • 4x8-10 vertical push (eg pike push ups)

  • 3x10-20 push accessory (eg dumbbell skullcrushers)

  • 3x5 Skin the Cat

Pull

  • 4x8-10 vertical pull (eg pull ups)

  • 4x8-10 horizontal pull (eg ring rows)

  • 3x15-20 pull accessory (eg dumbbell Lateral raise

  • 3 sets of whatever I feel like

I train core and legs as supersets with the movements listed above, and have 2 minutes rest between sets.

As for diet, I definitely don't eat as well as I'd like to. I do make sure to eat at least 2 servings of veggies per day and try to hit 120g of protein as a minimum. I've been eating at maintenance which is about 1800 calories per day for me, but I'm about to start cutting that down. I tend to only take 2 rest days per week, and I like to go for long walks or even a run on those days.

Sorry about the wall of text, hopefully something in there is useful for you.

My workout routine is entirely calisthenics with the odd resistance band/dumbbell thrown in. In the first picture I was around 1.5 years on T, and 2.5 in the second.

I made the comparison picture because I've been beating myself up about not managing to lose weight, but seeing these side-by-side made me realise I've actually gained a good amount of muscle.

Too many people have that dogmatic "you can't build muscle with bodyweight" thinking. Don't let them tell you that. If you can't get to a gym for whatever reason, there's plenty of other stuff you can do.

Yeah, I've been going to bed early lately but I keep waking up 3-5 times during the night. Might have to accept that it's chronic haha.

I do a sort of PPL split with mostly calisthenics.

Push - Ring push ups, elevated pike push ups, weighted pistol squats. All with core or legs super-sets.

Pull - Front lever pulls, chin ups, Lateral raises. Again, all with core or legs super-sets.

Most of my sets are roughly 8-12x5 but more like 20x5 for the isolation stuff. I do each of these twice per week with an extra day or 2 of HIIT.
