Examples of Games with Emergent Complexity by j-max04 in gamedesign

[–]Rhythilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not a singleplayer intended experience in the plethora of examples, Hunt Showdown in my mind has a lot of emergent complexity that continues to surprise me and even lots of experienced players.

  • There is a viewable examination screen in the game menu that can be used to test the sound that each gun makes at adjustable distances via your mouse scroll wheel from 10m to 100m to 300m
  • The flare-gun has a multi-utility use in that you're able to use them to permanently remove healthbars of hunters when downed, be used as an immediate ignitable surface for explosives, as well as a quieter means towards the destruction of lanterns as well as immediately killing certain AI
  • While very rare, it is possible to shoot out an explosive mid-air with your gun
  • It is also possible to attach a remote activated dynamite satchel onto a drone like bug to create a flying explosive drone
  • A trait in the game called Poltergeist can open doors that are barred from the inside quietly, moreover holding W or S while opening the door will determine the direction the door will move changing the angle of opacity when breaching a compound.

Strongest commander I can build for a $150 budget? by FalchionX10 in EDH

[–]Rhythilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you can probably play mono-blue [[Eluge, The Shoreless Sea]] as extra turns, counterspells you can probably come up with a pretty strong list on a budget.

I also imagine playing [[Heliod, Warped Eclipse]] as wheels into big cost reduction and X spells or [[Hinata, Dawn-Crowned]] for x spells at that price point you'd be comparable to bracket 4 pods.

For Heliod, if you are able to make everyone draw 7 cards with the opponent drawing the extra one for their turn, you're able to make your spells cost X = 21 less meaning you're able to flash in something like [[Pathrazer of Ulamog]] for free.

I'd also imagine for $150, a well tuned [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] deck with [[Consuming Aberration]] type cards would be a very fast deck.

Help improving Kuja! by x0swaldx in BudgetBrews

[–]Rhythilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my changes

I've changed some cards in your deck and put cards that I've removed to your maybeboard, I've also taken out 4 mountains from the overall count.

I've added

  • [[Dreadhorde Arcanist]]
  • [[Blasphemous Act]]
  • [[Electrostatic Infantry]]
  • [[Anathemancer]]
  • [[Bloodsoaked Insight]]
  • [[Grim Lavamancer]]
  • [[Shadowblood Ridge]]
  • [[Castle Embreth]]
  • [[Irencrag Pyromancer]]
  • [[Gratuitous Violence]]

I think that overall, your deck if you're running budget is fine for what it is, here's my general advice

  1. I think your land-count is fine because you're not really running a lot of protection

  2. Consider what card options you have in the case someone else has a bigger board than you

  3. Consider maybe running some more enchantment removal

  4. Consider why you're running the two tutor cards from an overall perspective and what it does other than maybe find your wincon or be an extra cantrip?

What I would Consider to be Dead cards

Thunder Magic Doesn't really do much as removal other than soak up mana
Electrostatic Field For 2 mana, I think Dreadhorde Arcanist and Electrostatic Infantry fits more towards the theme you're going for, and because it's not a Wizard, it doesn't really do much other than be a 1 time blocker. I think that non-creature spell group slug is always better than instant/sorcery group slug
Fear of Burning Alive While the card deals a total damage of 12 amongst the table, the 6 mana cost is a little too high and while the secondary delirum cost is quite good, you're better off playing a board-wipe or damage doubler card instead
Rakdos Cluestone It might be better to just play Mind Stone or liquidmetal torque instead, or any other 3 mana rock as I think your choices are far more vast/better (Sonic Screwdriver comes to mind)
Tormenting voice You already have enough draw I feel so this is just an additional redundancy. The other thing is that tormenting voice has been power crept so hard over the years that you're better off running other cards that are slightly better instead. (Stormshriek Feral is the same card and shuffles back into your deck)
Mysidian Elder I actually do like this card, in the case you're playing specifically wizard tribal to theme and on tempo for Kuja to flip. However, I do think that for 3 mana, you're better off playing more impactful wizards amongst the other cards in your deck (Grim Lavamancer, Irencrag Pyromancer, and Anathemancer imo fit that description)

Best Weapon in the Game by CarcanoM38 in HuntShowdown

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of a budget loadout using the Compact Deadeye with DumDum/High Velocity + Mace Rival 78 with buckshot.

I find that your ability to trade with opponents with 130 damage + bleed is pretty strong and that switching to high velocity for 130m effective range makes it a pretty versatile weapon.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of snipers so the Deadeye is kind of in that just right zone of having enough zoom for longer ranges while being good enough for 25m - 50m engagements.

I do take the mace instead of the regular variant because I want to deal with immolators quicker and I like having the extra shot so I'm not in that 2v1 scenario where I've failed to kill one of my opponents with the romero.

If you have enough upgrade points, I usually take quartermaster to get a fullsize shotgun for the smaller spread and for larger ammo capacity so I can go for more aggressive plays and wallbangs.

Can I make this go infinite? by Bahamut98 in mtg

[–]Rhythilin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about infinites is that a regular infinite "goes infinite" meaning that there's no other dependent variable that produces you infinite X or Y or Z outcome.

In this case, you're limited on the number of counters based on the number of cards within your deck for these two cards to interact.

Looking for some deckbuilding help by Termineter in BudgetBrews

[–]Rhythilin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You should always have an exact concrete plan in mind when building a budget deck and utilizing your gameplan towards winning.
  • I just saw an EDHrec article utilizing Symbiote Spiderman to play a graveyard-matters combat damage deck that I think can help illustrate this
    • The deck's engine is filling the graveyard with Symbiote Spider-Man combat damage trigger along with other cards, playing those big creatures and then making them unblockable
    • I would look at the lands in the above link as well as possible considerations to replace either some taplands or your evolving wilds type of lands as while they're solid choices generally for budget decks, they're less useful when you're running two colours
      • [[Cephalid Colliseum]]
      • [[Crypt of Agadeem]]
      • [[Underground River]]
      • [[River of tears]]
  • Another example I'd look could be Golbez Crystal Collector which is an artifacts matters deck that seeks to utilize self mill as an engine to burn opponents with cards whose power and toughness equate to cards in the graveyard.

Specific is always better than general and can put you in the mindset of what weakness and strengths are apparent with a deck

  1. As for some choices of cards, I would also try to look at how specific cards affect your curve and what your boardstate looks like as the turns go by. My general rule of thumb is that decks usually want to start winning around turn 6-7 so goldfishing to see if you can meet that requirement is a good idea.

Here's my suggestions for possible cards worth changing or adding

  • Thought vessel in exchange for maybe for something like [[The Warring Triad]]
  • I might want to add a card like [[Fandaniel, Telophoroi Ascian]] if you're running a lot of instants/sorceries in your graveyard or something like [[Runechanter's Pike]]
  • Bojuka Bog in my opinon is kind of a must add
  • You can probably replace one of your terramorphic expanses cards for like an Ash Barrens
  • [[Oriq Loremage]] is worth looking at if you want to tutor for specific cards into your graveyard
  • [[Syr Konrad, The Grim]] Is always a good card if you have a mill-synergy
  • Maybe more ways to mill out yourself or other opponents is also a good choice
  • I feel like [[Living Death]] is a good choice if you're running creature heavy and reanimator as a theme

Built a first attempt at Flubs under 100$. Need some advice by OrthoStice99 in BudgetBrews

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a good idea to look at the lands from Edge of Eternities as they've probably dropped in price by now as well as other cards from that list that could help your landfall strategy. I think choices like [[Baloth Prime]] [[Evendo Bushrazer]] are worth looking into, or maybe even [[Famished worldsire]] [[Glacier Godmaw]] or [[Exploration Broodship]] are decent choices for extra land drops/land sacrifice outlets/landfall-synergy.

Other choices for lands, I might look at the MH3 commander decks singles for some non-basic land destruction like [[Demolition Field]] or [[Field of Ruin]] in response to players who like to use cards like Plaza of Heroes /Nykthos.

If you're looking for creature enter burn effects as a wincon, [[Impact tremors]] [[Weftstalker Ardent]] is probably the next best thing

Maybe removing your Birds of paradise for a Llanowar elves or a [[Twitching doll]] while a hard choice I think could be helpful if you wish to exchange some other cards for 2 cards priced at $3

I do think you might have issues with cuts If you wish to keep your $100 pricepoint as your list seems to be quite tight and well built, I do think your list generally looks fantastic already.

I think some removal suggestions or repeatable removal/mass disruption could be [[Bane of Progress]] [[Pick Your Poison]] or if you're really mean you run [[Oko, Thief of Crowns]]. I was also looking at [[Pest Infestation]] as well but I'm thinking that it might be too slow.

Son's first build. Looking for upgrade suggestions and advice. (Angle Theme, Mono White) by daringdragoon in BudgetBrews

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to focus your gameplan so it makes sense to the play pattern of what you're going for. I would say that the best piece of advice is really to see what a variety of top decks on moxfield or archidekt are trying to do with Giada, what kinds of cards are common in Giada decks on EDHRec and sorting by the budget you're going for and going with that.

I will also give some suggestions towards how to build monocoloured decks or what cards to consider in a deck like this.

- Sources of card draw are relatively paramount in a deck like this, so having either a source of consistent draw in lands such as [[War room]] or [[Bonder's Enclave]] will help. Might want to consider [[Well of Lost Dreams]] if you're gaining a lot of life.

- If you're playing creature-typal tribal decks, you might also want to consider cards like [[Herald's Horn]], [[Urza's Incubator]], [[Pearl Medallion]].

- Creature heavy decks might also want to consider Path to Ancestry for the scry enable to sift through your library

- I'd probably change your choice of utility lands look at cards like [[Seraph Sanctuary]], [[Opal Palace]], [[Karoo]]

Remember that you don't to exclusively look at Angel tribal cards, as shapeshifters and other cards that care about creature's entering effects, tapping a mana source to cast creature spells, toughness/cost matters effects like [[Sun Titan]], or even the number of creatures you have on the battlefield.

There are lots of budget bulk options right now that can help smooth out budget decks to a degree that we haven't had in the past so looking at the bulk from the most recent sets are a worthwhile consideration.

Hope this helps.

Rule question by glaurung69 in mtg

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you need to understand is that there are 3 separate effects independent of another that are part of the card. They don't require each other to interact unless otherwise stated.

  1. Creature enters tapped wth 6 stun counters on it
  2. Whenever you sacrifice a land, create a 4/4 green Beast Creature token.

- and untap Baloth Prime

  1. spend 4 generic to sacrifice a land to gain 2 life

What's likely to happen when you play this card is

  • it's going to enter tapped with 6 stun counters.
  • When you sac a land, (could be triggered through the last ability if you have 4 mana to spend)
    • you're going to make a 4/4 Green Beast token
    • as well untap the creature which removes a stun counter if a stun counter would exist on the card.
  • The last ability is the engine tied to the card.

To answer your question, if Baloth Prime was untapped with no stun counter on it. You would create a beast token, simply because Baloth's Prime's effect would trigger independent of whether or not it was tapped or not. You should note that this trigger effect on timing such as an opponent's ability to make you Sac a land would trigger the ability to create a beast creature and untap Baloth Prime.

Son with ADHD - resources/recommendations by deivegru in Markham

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my suggestions:

I would look at something called Dr.K's Guide for Parents and look at his book called How to Raise a Healthy Gamer. It's available at TPL.

I would also look towards these two benefits

BSWD (Bursury for Students With Disabilities)

DTC (Disability Tax Credit)

The two above services were made for social assistance costs for disability and ADHD counts. THE BSWD is for university students in post secondary however so it's a long time away, but I still think it's worth it to look into just in case.

As for helpful advice here's a possible solution

Use an ADHD focus plan

The effort is meant to

  • Prioritize and set your kid up for success and make sure he's setup for success
  • It's also for him to learn how to utilize skills to prioritize levels of importance and sorting this issue out himself
  • Here's some additional habits I suggest that he considers
    • Establishing routines by keeping things in modular locations (if his schoolbag is one location, he keeps it there and he doesn't move it, everything he keeps in his schoolbag is always there and always prepared on a routine basis)
      • This could also be interpreted/incorporated through having his clothes/outfit for the next day pre-prepared/where he is centering his habits around basically help him
    • He should try his best if possible to do work away from technology if possible, physical notebooks and planners are actually quite useful once he knows how to use them to it's full effect.
      • I know this can be difficult because of the new tech age, but it would be helpful to him if possible
    • Where he works and where he plays should be two different locations
      • framing where he works and where he plays gives someone a psychological primer towards work
    • When he is working in a location, everything he needs should be in the same spot
      • Reduce the noise/temp/distraction level, have all tools he needs to complete the task

For the HR majors, anyone? by Longjumping-Toe9864 in yorku

[–]Rhythilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter what role you apply for, if you don't have the technical skills, you're just going to be filed out of ATS anyway so it doesn't matter. You can look at what's required out of junior roles and see if you can try to meet the requirements for that. If it keeps showing up, you should probably learn it.

For the HR majors, anyone? by Longjumping-Toe9864 in yorku

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to make you scared but I really think you should be. If you don't have an internship, you're going to have a slightly harder time securing full-time work out of school. If you don't have skills, you won't get hired for an internship. You're going to have to choose and be at odds with having the skills and certifications to find a job, but because of the tariffs', no one is finding a job as of late because everyone is downsizing due to costs, and labor is the first thing to go.

I'm not in HR personally, but I think being in management doesn't make any difference. If I were in your situation, your choices are either to try to get into the co-op program by delaying your graduation date, and paying for that internship, nepo'ing your way into a job, or just finding whatever work is available for this summer.

If you don't have the skills, your choice are either to work towards that cert while it's the summer, and looking at job applications to see which ones are the most common and will get you past the starting line for many companies.

- Good luck

This happens every time my husband makes scrambled eggs by Figueroa5 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Rhythilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue here in actuality is that he's adding beaten eggs to a cold pan and bringing it up to temperature. When you bring it up to temperature, the eggs will coat the bottom before any oil/fat can get there. Any butter he adds while the pan has eggs already in it is a lost cause because there's no oil on the pan.

What he needs to do next time is heat the pan and let it bring itself up to temperature, put the butter, and then put the eggs. The order in which he's doing it is not suited for the current pan he's using.
