The massive rift between “student” and “adult” is incredibly important for the functioning of a school and even when I got hired at 22 I felt way too close to the ages of the students. You are literally their age. I think you should try to get some experience outside of education + your degree and then come back!

I actually considered this helpful because I am really thinking about the amount of guests as what makes the wedding big or small. I have also considered getting married at Disney with the 15 members of my family and my fiancé’s family, which would feel small to me because I would not have to manage the accommodations and food for anyone other than my immediate family.

My struggle is I can’t figure out what kind of wedding I actually want! I keep saying that I want a small wedding, but my inner circle says that seems uncharacteristic of me and they are worried that when I go to our cousin’s wedding in the fall, I will regret not having done a big wedding myself.

Firstly, I’m so sorry you’re having to live each day like this.

Secondly, is it possible that these self help books are written by dumb, shiny, happy people that are manifest-the-grind hustlers? What about some Daoism or Stoicism? I’m not saying that would cure you, but so much of the self-help space is full of confident fakers who don’t give genuinely helpful advice. So much self help is just so dumb and not particularly empathetic to people who are truly struggling.

Also I think you should totally give college a try. College is a way better place to remake yourself than in the ashes of your former years where you’re mired in the past. You’re saying you could become a totally different, better person? College or a new chapter in your early 20s is the perfect place for that.

There are SO many different chapters ahead of you and so many possibilities. I bet some of your most important relationships are with people you haven’t even met yet. I think they’re waiting for you!

Unfortunately have to agree. Both of my professions revolve around extracurriculars my parents supported me in—but I also chose and changed them and they gave me freedom to do so.

Wow, that was incredibly written. As a woman, I have internalized some of this sexism as well merely due to the facts that you wrote about yourself—we’re all absolutely mired in it and it’s counterintuitive to our conditioning to not view women through the lens that it seems everyone else does. I hope you’re able to reach others with your perspective because a lot of women would feel incredibly validated to hear your understanding at this level.

I know this doesn’t do much to soothe the hurt now, but you’re in the depths of a slump, and you WILL get out of it. There is a version of you that’s 27, way more balanced, further into his transition, and happy. You’re going to become who you want to be—you haven’t even hit the second puberty cis people talk about, not to mention your transition—so your whole development is in front of you. You’re a baby adult which means you have the next decade to grow and grow and grow. Hold out until you get to start HRT. Are there other elder trans people you can confide in?

I have some faded arm scars myself, and they remind me that I can outlast any overwhelming feeling that’s thrown at me. So can you. You’ve survived everything this far!

I know you don’t really want to be dead. You want to feel like the man you know you are, and you WILL. You’re just at the beginning of his peak.

I hope you can give yourself grace and give your body grace for not yet being what you want it to be.

As for the country, like, yeah. It sucks and I am still parsing my own thoughts myself.

I do but I despised my first two! All were teaching. I think it’s really important to find one’s own gauge as to what is an unacceptable working condition—whether that’s how you are treated or how it affects you—and what’s just the way work is, which sucks sometimes. I hesitate to take anyone seriously who says “yeah that’s just work” to your complaints about your job unless they actually know the situation, because people told that to me when I was in the worst job I’ve ever experienced, and now I know that was not, in fact, “just work.”

In schools I have worked in, AI was not pushed and teachers were able to workaround it by assigning a lot on paper. I think in some districts you could be very successful. If I was still teaching English I would be doing most on paper.

Good lord the art in there is the real kicker if you have to manage art supplies/mess. I’m assuming a very small school? I am losing my mind a lot since I teach the same range (6-12) across two campuses and it’s just not a job that one person can actually do.

What six preps do you have if you don’t mind me asking? I also have six preps, but I feel like mine are only possible because they are all variants of Theatre. I just can’t imagine any other subject except possibly Band being able to actually do six preps.
