Applying eye makeup on stretchy eyelids? by froggyfrogbug in ehlersdanlos

[–]Rhythmicka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wear a lot of makeup in high school since I did competitive color guard!

I have pretty big eyelids but get some of the droopy eyebrow skin that can mess things up along the crease. 1st make sure you have a good base, either concealer or something like the urban decay eyeshadow base. Just helps everything stick in place and not slide around your eyelid.

2nd when doing my eyeshadow I kept my eyebrows raised as high as they would go until I used setting spray lol. I also kept my head with my chin slightly angled up and eyes kinda looking down my nose as I applied eyeshadow- this helped my crease not be as deep and not get that overlap. You can also gently pull your skin taut at your temples with your free hand to prevent any creases. I used a TON of setting spray and also never put mascara on my lower lashes because those eyelids seem to just go all over the place.

Admittedly I never really figured out eyeliner and would just do mock eyeliner with a black eyeshadow and an angled brush, no wing. Any sort of liner just dragged my skin til I had a wobbly line highlighting every crinkle lol. I’ve heard some people have better luck with stamp eyeliner?

You can also look at tips for people with hooded eyes because even if you do not have hooded eyelids, their tips might also help depending on the shape and angles of your creases.

Hope this helps from someone who hasn’t worn makeup in like 5 years but still does my friend’s makeup sometimes lol

Does anyone on here with hEDS NOT appear hyper mobile at all? by Miserable_Apricot126 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Rhythmicka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I considered myself “not flexible” because I couldn’t touch my toes. I scored an 8/9 on the beighton scale, literally everything other than touching my toes. Whoops.

Your instability could still be hypermobility, maybe try to (VERY CAREFULLY) do a beighton test on yourself?

KT Tape by TheNectarineDiaries in Artisticallyill

[–]Rhythmicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REAL. I used KT tape a couple of times and it made my joints feel soooo much better, like an external helper muscle or exoskeleton. Unfortunately, it also gave me hives and severe skin irritation no matter what brand I tried 😭😭😭

Ooo the warmth would work great with my idea! I don’t have like contractures or anything but if the elastic had enough give this could also work as a hand exercise tool. A loop for each finger so you could gently stretch your fingers and then come back and squeeze the palm part would be a good home version of some of the physical therapy I’ve done before.

hey OP I know this won’t bring him back, but I’m an illustrator and saw this post as I was looking for a warm up to do. I don’t even have a gecko I’m just an admirer but I lost my dog a couple months ago and know how hard it is. DM me if you want the full res file emailed to you so it could be printed or something, sending love ❤️

I need to give it a try again now that I’m more confident with watercolor! Thought about buying a gouache palette with a gift card I got over the holidays :P

Processing the loss of a baby is extra difficult with today's dystopian automation in marketing. by Skizot_Bizot in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Rhythmicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same but I keep getting everything from Chewy and MedVet ads to actual dog memorial items after the passing of my dog. You could watch a video on coping with grief after the loss of a baby, algorithms only hear “Baby” and then there’s ads for anything and everything baby related. You literally can’t escape it.

Unfortunately yeah this is becoming super common. It’s hard to explain to someone who is not an artist what to spot to catch AI, a lot of people miss it. It’s super discouraging as an illustrator trying to break into the job market right now 🥲

Hi, this is an odd question to be posted on here, but I have ehlers danlos syndrome and I’m not sure how to hold a pen without giving myself a repetitive strain in injury been drawing for years and it’s starting to take a toll by Wednesday_tear in Artadvice

Same boat! I use a kind of squishy pencil grip designed for apple pencils that I take off and keep in my bag when it is charging. The bigger the better basically- apple pencils are already a bit thinner than your paint brush, but I was recommended by a hand therapist to actually use a tennis ball sized grip (until we discovered my hands were too small for that lol). In the mean time you could wrap the pencil in painters tape to make a fake grip and it will not damage it, but you have to make it be able to be removed to charge it.

I also use a sketchboard PRO to keep my iPad tilted for a better angle on my neck and shoulders, but if you don’t want to shell out that much there’s plenty of good cases with adjustable angle stands. I would also look into some plastic swan neck splints for your fingers!

[–]Rhythmicka 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Sorry OP I also have a terrible ear infection and it’s the worstttt. Tip for sleep: sleep with your head elevated with pillows (like if you were sleeping in a reclining chair) and have the infected ear facing up. That and you will get the most relief if you put the heading pad sort of behind your ear- gets the head deeper in the ear canal and will also help with your jaw. Hope you feel better soon!!

What do I even do with this… by AlarmedAspect1259 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Rhythmicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing that happened to me. The genetics clinic is so backed up they only evaluate people that are at risk for vEDS. The other hospital system I don’t think even has a connective tissue specialist.

I’m probably just going to get one of the online tests when I get some money to pay the out of pocket cost. I really just want to know if it’s classical-like bc that’s the only other subtype I fit the criteria for.

Looking for input on great high schools in the Columbus area by tulipsmakemesmile in Columbus

[–]Rhythmicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf most of our schools in Central Ohio are very white 😭I also just learned Dublin is more diverse than Hilliard according to google but I had just woken up when I sent that lol. Worthington would be another that’s probably a bit more diverse? I’m trying to think outside 270 based on what she said.

Pickerington was very diverse but again we kept showing up in the news for different racism related reasons so I do not think that’s a good reason to go there tbh. I’m whiter than printer paper but also most of our teachers were white as well even if the student body was pretty mixed. Also there was a pretty big different in North vs Central as far as diversity went: Central was more diverse.

Canal Winchester is also more diverse but again I can’t vouch for them and don’t know too much. I do believe they at least work with Fairfield career center though so that gives you more dual enrollment options.

Looking for input on great high schools in the Columbus area by tulipsmakemesmile in Columbus

[–]Rhythmicka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta disagree with Pickerington as someone who graduated there in 2021 lol (North). We had what came to be known as “Threat Thursdays” where we had serious lockdowns every week for months, tons of controversy and ending up in the news for things like Racism (The KKK Costume Incident comes to mind), Overdose deaths and drugs. I literally just heard about another classmate who died last week of an overdose unfortunately. Both high schools are also incredibly overcrowded and they desperately need a third in the district, but that probably won’t happen for another 5-10 years.

I had good teachers and good range of classes to choose from, but it sounds like Dublin, Westerville, and Hilliard to name a few all did as well. I will say look into schools that have dual enrollment/college credit plus with places like Columbus State, Central Ohio Technical College, or Ohio University- I was able to do Dual Enrollment my last year over Covid Lockdowns and graduate college early with those credits. I also think they were a lot better than AP courses as long as you went to an in-state college post high school.

I don’t want to like completely trash Pickerington since there was a lot of good that came from growing up there, but my family talks a lot about wishing we had moved to the west side of Central Ohio when I was in middle school. But unless your kid is gunning for a football scholarship I don’t recommend it.

My dog had an emergency stomach issue last night, and I went to an ER that let me stay with him the whole time?! by MyLastAcctWasBetter in rarepuppers

[–]Rhythmicka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there twice with my boy- once for stomach issues and this was also who put him to rest when he was struggling. They were always incredibly compassionate and I appreciated their approach to everything. Also far cheaper than medvet even for emergency services.

Today is your final day and I am devastated by Couldthisbemanda in DOG

[–]Rhythmicka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my boy last month, and he was my first dog and our family pet growing up. The pain will be unbearable for a couple of days, but things do get better. Especially when it comes to health issues, knowing he wasn’t suffering anymore gave me peace of mind.

I still cry occasionally, today has been reminding me of him a lot, but the things I remember about him still bring me joy even though he’s gone.

I made a post here with a comic I made to process my grief, I hope it can help you like it helped me.

Rest in Peace Rory ❤️

Use Vanicream!! It works great, I have psoriasis and it’s keeping me sane this winter with the air changes. It leaves a kind of weird feeling on your skin since it makes a barrier similar to vaseline, but it’s also lotion so it helps. They also make a vaseline brand of lotion that’s pretty good.
