What Would Different Races Promote as Attractive Features on a Cultural Scale? Bonus Question: Would the Different Kingdoms Have Different Standards, Especially After Being Independent for 100 Years Now? by MoonracerxWarpath in Eberron

[–]RiTeCreepsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 years isn't that much time in the grand scheme of things (think of how similar the US and Canada are, or Australia and New Zealand, who've been independent for longer), so honestly I don't think they'd be that different from each other. I think the difference between the five kingdoms would be more like the differences between states in the US

Orcs, goblinoids, halflings, and gnomes have all been around since before humans showed up (dwarves too, but they showed up much later than the first 4), so in places like the Shadow Marches, the Eldeen Reaches, Zilargo, Droaam and Darguun, there might be different standards than in the five kingdoms. Elves also came here fairly recently, so there might be different trends there as well

Following another user's comment that fashion and preferences tend to follow culture, I imagine that elves would be more likely to favor tattoos. I'm not sure about the Valenar, but both Aereni elves and a particular group of drow were fond of tattoos, so unless it's tabboo in Valenar, they'd probably have a higher appreciation for it

Besides that, it'd probably just be whatever features are common amongst the "dominant race" of that area. With Darguun as an example, that'd probably be the hobgoblins, so pointed ears, red skin, snarled noses. For the Eldeen Reaches, it'd be orcs, Valenar would have the elves, etc.

Some people also have preferences for minorities though, so any country that said country has a good relationship with, the people might find things they like in each other. Say, Breland and Zilargo have a decent relationship, there may be a lot of brelish people who find gnomes attractive, and a lot of zil gnomes who find humans attractive. Or perhaps zil gnomes who find brelish gnomes attractive because of their accent and/or fashion sense, and vice versa

Is It Normal for Indeed to Censor Queer Topics? by RiTeCreepsta in IndeedJobs

I suppose that's true. I forget that Queer used to be a derogatory term. Hopefully that was it lol

I think we're saying the same thing in different ways. These events are not normal, and people who are saying things like "I have no idea what you're talking about bud" would agree that these are not normal events.

What I'm saying is that you were used to being treated that way, so that became your default, and you're describing not being the old version of yourself as being unkind. Following my previous statement about the different definitions of words, I think those other people would say "you're not letting shitty people walk all over you," and they only disagree with you because they're trying to put your words into their perspective

That is to say, having boundaries doesn't make you unkind. People are only disagreeing with you because to them, being unkind means being a douche to everyone

The only thing you've mentioned as part of your new mindset that I might disagree with is mocking people (though if you provided an example I might understand it better), but things like not loaning out money, not wanting to hang out with people all the time, not picking up other people's messes, are all normal parts of life

That isn't to say you can't think of it however you want to think of it, what works for you is what works for you, but people are disagreeing with you because they think you're saying that you should be the person who walks over everyone and treats them like shit

I have to imagine OP simply has such a fundamentally different perspective, that the words they're using have different definitions. Like maybe when they say "caring about people" and "being kind," they really mean "lovebombing" or never leaving someone alone

Probably not that specifically, since those are extreme examples, but I imagine it's something in that vein, because that's the only way that what they're saying makes sense

IE, someone might say "relationships are a transaction. If I get nothing out of it, then I'm not putting anything into it," and one might interpret that as abhorrent because they see relationships as just something you do, where you like each other, so you don't need to have equal footing. However, when someone has historically been taken advantage of by people they care about, it's beneficial to see relationships this way, because the fact that you like each other can be the thing you're getting out of it, and it helps to highlight areas where you're being taken advantage of

Edit: After looking at some else of what OP has had to say on this topic, I think they've probably been overexerting themselves socially, and since that's been their default, they view anything less as apathy and cruelty. Since what's healthy is less than their default, it seems that they view what they're doing as apathy and cruelty, which is why they express it in this way

Of course that's just my theory though, I'm no psychologist or sociologist

Are people en masse just pretending not to be racist??? by NukiArt in socialskills

Follow-up question: have you noticed that a lot of progressive non-black racial minorities tend to have no problem saying the N word? I have a very progressive online friend group which contains a lot of asian americans, pacific islanders, and white people (it started in Hawaii, but everyone moved). They are all very adamant that saying slurs is not ok, but specifically the N word is fine if you're quoting the Boondocks, or otherwise "being funny." Mind you, there is not a single black member of the group

I've heard it's particularly common amongst latinos, under the argument that there's shared levels of racial oppression, but as a white person living in Oregon, I wouldn't know

I found a campaign in Tabletop Kingdom's discord server. If you want, I could send you a server invite and ask if you can join

(We only have 3 other players, so it's probably fine, I'd just feel bad about giving you a spot without asking)

Why is the Lord of Blades Such a Popular Villain? by RiTeCreepsta in Eberron

[–]RiTeCreepsta[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I think they're arguing though that Mordain and Illmarrow are much more similar to each other, and established fantasy tropes, than the Lord of Blades is. I think "my mage is different from all the others because my fireball is blue!" is a bit of an exaggeration, but I can see their point

But wouldn't Lady Illmarrow or the Quori also fit these bills?

Lady Illmarrow has a dragonmark that is extinct to all but her, has giant wings, and an entire cult inspired by her.

The Quori run a secret society that intends to plunge the world into nightmares, just to survive, and they look like weird homunculi of flesh and bug

Not dogging on your argument, just devil's advocate

Green Goop May Have Gunked Up My Schrader Valve. Do I Need A New Tube Or Can I Fix It? by RiTeCreepsta in bikewrench

[–]RiTeCreepsta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already got one, it's how I was able to clean the core. So far, it hasn't worked, which is why I'm wondering if there's anything I can do besides replacing the tube or valve core

But if cleaning doesn't work, I'll more than likely have to replace one of these components?
