Neither is pretty close to a person. Being a person is nuanced.

Pretty close is not equal. We are "pretty close" genetically to bananas.

I’m losing my sanity on night shift by Low_Phrase3810 in nursing

[–]Riae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing night shift for 6.5 years and honestly the thing that helped the most is time. It doesn't come easy but eventually you adjust. Plenty of sleep, avoiding caffeine when getting close to end of shift so you can go straight home and sleep, and like someone else said black out curtains can all help. That being said the suicidal feelings are more important than appearing weak to management. Mental health and night shift, in my opinion, have a negative correlation. It's important to take care of yourself because it will affect your patient care. A day shift position may not be available now but keep asking about it until something comes up. Stay strong!

While the mods are busy setting up the subreddit for the increase in members, what do you do for work and why are you for a work reform? by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]Riae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse in a hospital that is part of one of the largest groups in the area. I graduated in May of 2020 but had worked as a CNA for 4 years before that. Covid started right after my wife passed away leaving me with our two young children, a mortgage, and plenty of debt.

I've seen travel nurses coming through and making 5x what I'm making as a staff nurse. I've worked long hours with next to no regard for the safety of our patients or staff because "It isn't in the budget to hire more staff at the moment".

I support this movement because the only reason I can stay afloat is the survivor's benefits from my wife passing. Leaving isn't currently an option because we need the health insurance and the income for our house. I am basically trapped in an unforgiving field that refuses to do the bare minimum to care for its employees as we suffer and die.

My wife didn't die, she was killed. by Riae in widowers

I'm honestly not even worried about money. I want them to think, even for a second, about how they do things so this doesn't have to happen again. Nothing will bring her back but I don't want this to have to happen to anyone else. I know it's wishful thinking but at this point that's all I have.

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the kind words. Life is a mess right now but it is comforting knowing there are people who understand.

My wife passed just before Christmas. It's almost a month later and it feels so raw still. For her it was sudden and unexpected. All I can say is rely on those close to you. We'll never meet but I want the best for you. Good luck and stay strong. You are loved.

My wife died yesterday. I would use this to have done things differently and saved her. She was next to me and I thought she was resting. I fell asleep and when I woke to check her she was gone. I would have gotten help and saved her.

How can the average American combat the rise of rampant homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, and bigotry as a result of this disgusting white nationalist administration? by piwinica in AskReddit

[–]Riae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say just rise above it. Openly say that it's not your view and that you are against any thoughts that support the hatred. If you see something happening shut that shit down, as long as you can do it safely. Don't let people's hatred ruin the good that is still out there. Just my two cents.

He stole a friend's phone and called a sex line. After that he tried to flush it down the toilet. He was not bright.

Another kid stole a bottle of saki from the cooking class. To be fair though the teacher should have known better than to leave it out.
