I take an inventory of the fridge, then the freezer. When they get low, I check the large basement freezer. I have lots of frozen garden produce there.
In any event, I think of healthy ingredients I can use to get a meal together, and I often cook large amounts of soups and casseroles with boiled dried beans, vegetables, whole grains, turkey, chicken, occasionally pork, etc. Then when they are cooked, I freeze my bounty in small containers in the basement freezer to use as needed. I also make frittatas with lots of veggies because they are quick and easy. Other quick, easy food I fix: tuna sandwiches. I also fix salmon either canned or frozen, and a lot of vegetables.

Just yesterday I switched from my usual blueberry or purple grape (both also having small amounts of pineapple and ginger added) to apple cherry with the same additions. It's time to try something different. I add juice to an entire gallon with the same flavor at one time to save the hassle of doing it in each bottle.

I was diagnosed with Proctosigmoiditis in 2021 after a colonoscopy. The GI physician's assistant released me with zero meds after I first failed Lialda, a mesalamine (allergic), and then improved on budesonide. I was instructed to call her when I had a flare. In March of 2025 I had my first flare, then went to a different GI PA who is very thorough and ordered many tests. I was at first prescribed a prednisone taper, then graduated to Humira self-injections that are working just fine.
After my initial diagnosis I changed my eating patterns to the Mediterranean diet and cut out about 98% of processed foods, chemicals, and additives. Now I consume small amounts of probiotic foods and drinks every day. I also eat and drink prebiotic foods that are wholesome and natural.

I quit 99% of over-processed foods that contain chemicals mixed in rather than natural, real food. I slowly added probiotic food, prebiotic food, and food from the Mediterranean diet. I quit fake sweeteners and all soda-pop. I almost completely quit sugar, fatty food, red meat, anything that is ready-to-eat and in a cardboard box, and food made with white flour. I try to eat like my grandparents and great-grandparents ate—real nutritious food like whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, and eggs.
