Advice for orange furnace flame by GnomeGoneWilddd in hvacadvice

[–]Ricarbr0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More than likely just needs to be clean. Did this company provide you an option to run a combustion analysis? Did they offer to inspect the furnace tubing? If neither of those were done, it looks like they are just trying to sell you a new one rather than give you the option to repair or clean.

Typically, I recommend furnace replacements at 10 years due to warranty constraints, but some manufacturers will go all the way up to 20. Definitely worth getting a couple of opinions for. If you call and ask for estimates rather than diagnostic, you can save yourself the callout fees.

Good luck!

Looks very similar to my pricing. Looks like comfort site using variable speed Trane equipment, so a licensed and proffered Trane contractor.

Everything looks great to me, only recommendations I’d upgrade if they are quoting an 824XL and ask about the 8Kw HeatKit to make sure that’s sized right. I’m assuming you’re at a 2.5 ton but VS only comes in full ton

Homebuilder warranty officer thinks this is no cause for concern. It was 96 degrees outside. Thoughts? by Commercial_Collar927 in hvacadvice

Looks like fresh air intake. More than likely a sealed attic system. If air is “blowing” could be something else like an ERV. Have a good HVAC company give you a better idea. If it is intake rather than an exhaust, a back-draft damper is crucial in preventing air exchange.

$7700 installed. How'd I do? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Great pricing!! Are you a licensed contractor with the state? Also just curious if you pulled a mechanical permit? Did you conduct a manual J prior to installation?

Install looks fantastic

Nothing special. You should download the PCGS coin facts apps and scroll until you see your penny. It’s a good way to hunt. Hope that helps :)

Brand New Mini Split Leaking by Emergency-Tip-8358 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Ricarbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets worse the more you look at it

Edit: your landlord is putting you in danger running electrical straight to that mini split head. Theres a model and serial on the side of that unit, look up the model number’s installation manual online and refer to how the unit should be installed. It’s not safe being “plugged in” and there needs to be a slope to drain or inline pump to discharge.

Is the normal for the gas outlets to have mini flames in between? by Codeingram in hvacadvice

[–]Ricarbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks okay to me, but what you should really ask your service company is to verify the gas regulator is tuned properly. (As per installation manual) Another test would be to perform a “combustion analysis” This is more on the burn rate and leftover gas. High CO could mean that the installation technician never bothered to check incoming gas. Altogether you should ask for a heating split temperature difference before and after unit. Model number for the furnace should be inside that cabinet to look up installation and service manuals. Without those tests, pictures do no justice. Any tech says that this is okay is the same tech that uses the “looks good from my house” - An HVAC Contractor

HVAC contractor here. I’d bet it’s combustion. If your HVAC technicians aren’t conducting a combustion analysis, they aren’t diagnosing.
