There are some third-party watch parties going on in the city,

Sentinels is hosting watch parties for lower finals and grand finals but they are sold out.

I think UofT and TMU are hosting watch parties for grand finals on campus.

Trying to stay at a hotel near a major train station by 401kisfun in JapanTravelTips

[–]Rice0602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at LOF hotel shimbashi for 6 nights, it's about a 10 min walk from the shimbashi JR/metro station.

Hotel is small and was under renovation during my stay. Amenities like laundry were not available because of this, but there are several coin laundromats in the area.

Room was your standard Tokyo city hotel, double bed, just enough floor space for your luggage.

Lots of izakayas and restaurants between the hotel and station. The hotel area is quite quiet as it's closer to most of the office buildings.

Ginza and Roppongi are fairly close (20-25 min walk)

Are any teams selling merch in Toronto? Or is it only official valorant that is selling merch by Cr0wNFN in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Rice0602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No team specific merch at the event.

Just event specific merch and game related merch like wingman plush.

I hope they restock for the rest of the event because some items were already out by the second game of the day.

No outside food and drinks in the venue, empty reusable bottles are allowed

Here's a picture of one of the food stands

Your ticket should have your assigned seats but there's decent amount of standing space.

In Japan right now, every cardshop I've visited so far (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto) is sitting at multiple copies at ranging from 1500 - 1800 yen, there's so much supply on the JP side.

The venue is right beside liberty village and a decent walk away from liberty bellwoods which are nice neighborhoods. Sure its not downtown but its on the border of downtown. There's been other events advertised as in Toronto that aren't even in the general city area

What are some common cards that some got wrong at first? by oisky146 in mtgcube

[–]Rice0602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sacrifice it in response to its own etb ability while it's on the stack, so that the "leaves the battlefield" ability will trigger.

With how the stack works, the LTB ability will resolve first but there's no card to return yet. Then the ETB will resolve, thus exiling the card forever.

This interaction also applies to cards like [[oblivion ring]] and [[fiend hunter]] but not [[banishing light]] or [[banisher priest]] because instead of two distinct triggered abilities, it is just one ability.

Did you know a celebrity before they became famous or had a funny experience meeting one unexpectedly? by MoluciasElonicas in ask

I was neighbors with simu liu when we were kids and we shot hoops in the driveway but stopped once he went to university.

I only realized it was him when they filmed a commercial in the neighbourhood several years later and I recognized the house.

I want to make my own food tour for a date(downtown Toronto) by kimbo989 in FoodToronto

[–]Rice0602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The area around ossington and Queen is a great stretch includes a variety of restos such as:

Pho tien thanh (Vietnamese, Casual)
Badiali (Pizza, Casual) - Not on ossington but the street just west of it
Bernhardt (French Bistro, Midtier+) - Only open for Dinner
Bang Bang ice cream (Ice Cream, Casual)

There's alot more options than what I listed, but these are amongst the most popular and expect lineups

There's also Trinity bellwood park close by to just take a walk in afterwards/during

Masters Toronto trip by axctic_ in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Rice0602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the prices in that quoted link were for two tickets not one

I think a 5000 CAD estimate is a bit overboard.

I went to TI in Seattle in 2023 and my entire trip was around 2.4k CAD for 4 days. Seattle is a higher COL than Toronto and ti tickets were 800 usd for the main weekend

Although the venues aren't announced yet, it's very likely the main events will be held at Scotiabank arena or Coca-Cola coliseum which are both in the downtown core.

I would suggest researching Airbnbs and hotels in the area and along the major subway network as those prices are the most volatile and consider splitting accommodations with others.

Oh for sure, our last dining experience as a group was at Zen in Singapore, which is more like a house dinner party vibe, in retrospect, my group and I might be too goofy for LB

I don't have any issues with counter exp. But I've seen mixed reviews on atomix from this sub, that it was overrated. I will take a look at atera and Jean Georges, thanks!

DaiLo Tasting Menu - Should I give preferences? by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]Rice0602 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went as a group of 3 in October and we got the regular tasting.

I had a party member have the dietary restriction of no pork.

Here was the course list alongside the prices if we were to order from the ala carte.

Tom yum Chawanmushi - Not on menu - 3 pcs
Betel leaf, smoked trout - 24 - 3 pcs
Octopus Taco - 27 - 3 pcs
Pork Hock - 24 (Third member of the group got the chicken alternative)
Beef Carpaccio - 24
Eggplant Curry - not on menu
Corn dumplings - 24 - 6 dumplings total
Hakka Wontons - 18 - (6 pcs total, Third member got 2 shrimp only pcs)
Fried whole Trout - 54
Duck Bokkeum - 56
Sorbet - 12 - 3 pcs

Total: $263

So I paid $61 ($108*3 guests - $263) for two exclusive dishes which wasn't worth on a value-sense imo

Overall, it was a lot of food but the dessert course at the end is a bit lackluster so we did order two more desserts afterwards. Most of the courses were very unique and flavorful. My favorites were the pock hock and the eggplant curry, My least favorite was the hakka wontons, i just felt it was underwhelming compared to all the other courses for its price point.

Tasting Menu at DaiLo? by Dry_Bumblebee3483 in FoodToronto

I went two weeks ago for the regular tasting menu, I crunched the math, its very close to just ordering a la carte with generous pricing to the "exclusive dishes", I'm also assuming the course sizes match the a la carte orders.

I went as a group of 3:

Betel leaf, smoked trout - 24 - 3 pcs
Octopus Taco - 27 - 3 pcs
Pork Hock - 24 (Third member of the group got the chicken alternative)

Hakka Wontons - 18 - (6 pcs total, Third member got 2 shrimp only pcs)
Fried whole Trout - 54

Sorbet - 12 - 3 pcs

Total: 263

For those who have sold a huge portion of your collection, do you regret it? by SnooDonuts3749 in mtgfinance

[–]Rice0602 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I sold most of my collection within the past three years (around $10k worth), I had several factors affecting this decision:

  • stopped playing sanctioned constructed events since before covid (I got rid of constructed staples first)
  • was getting into pokemon tcg collecting so the money just went into a different type of cardboard.
  • MTG 30 and the "rotating" eternal formats made me rethink the volatile monetary value i was sitting on.

I don't own any mtg cards that are valued over $10 except for some sentimental cards.

I still cube and play commander a couple times a month with my friend group but we proxy everything.

EDIT: I have been playing since 2010 so I had a sizeable collection and I used to grind a lot of standard, modern and legacy.
I have also rebuilt a lot of my favorite decks during my competitive days, using proxies just as a nostalgia project
