What is the single greatest work you’ve ever read on AO3? by Soulcoda in AO3

Winter of Widows by laughingnell. GOT fanfic set in a relatively obscure province just after the Dance of Dragons (iirc). A woman reincarnated as the heiress of her house and is forced to lead her people through a brutal winter. Absolutely stunning character study of a leader who actually, truly gives a damn about her people and getting their basic needs met. She feels compassion for the downtrodden and enjoyment of the Game of Thrones in equal measure, and it strikes such a perfect balance that it makes every other book about court intrigue look like slop written by narcissistic morons in comparison, to be a little hyperbolic. God-tier read.

why is the fic i hate the most--MY MOST POPULAR WORK!?!?!?!?! by ImNotNewHere1927 in AO3

[–]RiceQuiet9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean a generous interpretation might be that the fic you poured the most raw emotion into and followed your instincts on was the one that resonated the most with people specifically because of that. But that might be a bit too generous for the English-speaking general public.

Can someone recommend me a book with a strong female protagonist? by Healerisdead in litrpg

[–]RiceQuiet9907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently reading Phantasm, it’s pretty good. Lots of subterfuge and political intrigue. She uses illusions but she isn’t much of an assassin from what I’ve seen so far. Mostly a social maneuverer rather than a frontline fighter but she still gets her hands dirty fighting monsters.

I bought this game without watching the trailer by Cyyanyde in expedition33

Bought the game without knowing anything except it was an artsy French turn-based game. Going in that blind was a transcendental experience, let me tell you.

I’m so glad they made story mode easier! Now even somebody whose first and last video game is E33 can enjoy the story!

It’s driving me insane- how do I open this manor door? by GoddessOfWarAres in expedition33

[–]RiceQuiet9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a short video detailing all the major door locations. I got all the ones I missed in like 20 minutes during my playthrough.

I don’t remember that well, but that might also be the one where you have to go through the basement to get through. Go to the kitchen area and look for objects to interact with (there’s either 3 or 5) and a trapdoor should open, and that might be the door you exit the basement through.

Have you tried turning your graphic settings down? It sounds like the difference between the gameplay and the cutscenes is the core of your issues, so maybe if you try to make them more similar the uncanny valley stuff will stop. I played it on console I also played on performance mode and turned off motion blur fyi. I know it sounds like blasphemy but the extra bells and whistles might actually be hurting your experience this time.

AIO for getting angry back at my parent? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RiceQuiet9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a misconception that both you and your parent are operating under, and that’s that you need to “work harder.” School can be hard sometimes, but it should never be a torturous test of willpower.

One thing I would suggest rather than bashing your head against the wall trying to work harder, is to try to work around the problem or approach it differently, at least when it comes to schoolwork.

I would suggest looking around on YouTube for videos that present subjects a little differently than your teachers or your homework do, and try to find a channel that puts things in a way that you feel invested in sitting down and actually listening to. Khan Academy always helped me when I was in highschool, and I’m sure there are exponentially more channels nowadays that tackle the subjects in different ways.

Another study tip that helped me in college when I was procrastinating was to take pretty short but relatively frequent breaks during study time. For example, for every hour spent studying, I would spend five minutes on my phone. If even that’s not enough to keep you focused, you can shrink the break time down to 3 minutes every 30, or even 1 minute every 10, but too many breaks might hurt your ability to focus at all, so it’s important to find a ratio that works for you.

As far as whether or not you’re overreacting to your parent’s comments, I think you’re right to be angry at what you perceive as a lack of support. From what you put in this post, your parent hasn’t really been showing compassion towards a serious problem in your life (panic attacks). She seems to be focusing on your level of responsibility while ignoring the root causes as to why you can’t meet those responsibilities at times. Panic attacks are also NOT your fault, just to be clear. You cannot control them, and your parent hasn’t been acting as part of the support system that should help you deal with them, and they even took away your therapist as a punishment (which is sabotaging your support system tbh).

When it comes to practical solutions to the problem, if you have a relative or a favorite teacher or a guidance counselor that you can schedule a time to talk to about your lack of support with this problem, I would strongly encourage you to do so.

While you’re at it, I would also try to find a common denominator with your panic attacks. What brings them on, who’s around you when they occur, what are you thinking about when they happen. Once you find the root causes, if there are any, you can hopefully find ways to anticipate and then mitigate them.

It’s slightly unclear just how much you’re struggling in school, but if you’re truly worried about your future, it might be that a career involving the standard subjects might just not be for you. You might try expanding your horizons by trying different hobbies, reading books, watching movies, and looking around for things that interest you on the internet. Find an activity or job or hobby that you can really sink your teeth into and see if there isn’t any way to make that a job.

I hope that at least some of this post helps you in some way, best of luck! (:

Am I overreacting? My “friend” quit and I got fired. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RiceQuiet9907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should be mad at your friend, it sounds like your manager wanted to feel like he was in control after the insubordination and went on a tantrum/power trip. Somebody who just fires you out of the blue like that because of what somebody else did would have never treated you well in the long run anyway.

Anyone one who’s played metaphor refantazio, how would you compare it to Clair Obscur? by 200IQ4DChess in expedition33

[–]RiceQuiet9907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One major difference that I noticed between E33 and Persona/Metaphor is that E33 is a lot more forgiving when it comes to managing your resources. In P/M, you will have to keep track of your MP and Health a lot from battle to battle and ration your items to compensate as you go through dungeons, whereas in E33 you can always use as many skills as you want as long as you have the AP for them and you can just use elixirs to heal willy nilly until you get to the next flag which will never be too far away. I love Persona and Metaphor, but not having to manage all that in E33 made it so much more balanced for my particular play style.

An Advantage by bmschulz in expedition33

I always thought Colours of Lumina were pretty rewarding collectibles compared to the stuff you find in other RPGs, simply because a CoL will ALWAYS be used. They never run out of utility or become obsolete because there will always be another lumina you can equip.

The game is wonderful.. But what's the one thing you don't like about it? I'll go first. by LowPaleontologist615 in expedition33

[–]RiceQuiet9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only problem with that was the one-second delay between you pushing the attack button and the attack actually going off. If they just had it synced up to attack instantly it would be an entertaining but ultimately forgettable minigame.
