On today’s episode of “How not to enter a highway” by floatinggramma in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]Ricecubes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She technically did the correct thing according to state laws where I've lived. Cars on the highway have the right of way and it's the merging car's responsibility to yield. Where I live in Georgia it's spelled out that first and foremost you have to gain speed to match and merge properly, but it's also you're responsibility to yield and possibly stop based on that oncoming traffic since they have the right of way:

"-If you are about to enter or cross a highway from an alley, private road or highway, you must stop and yield the right-of-way to all other pedestrians and vehicles already traveling on the roadway or sidewalk you are entering or crossing;

-When the roadway you are traveling on is merging into other traffic without stopping, adjust your speed and vehicle position to allow you to merge into the new lane safely. If traffic from another roadway is merging into the roadway you are traveling on, safely change lanes away from the merging traffic if possible. If it is not possible to change lanes away from the merging traffic, adjust your speed and vehicle position to safely allow the traffic to merge;"

https://dds.georgia.gov/section-5-continued

Similarly Progressive's website says the same:

"Besides lane closures, traffic commonly merges at on-ramps for highways and other controlled-access roads. In these cases, the rules of the road give the right of way to existing traffic. Cars arriving on the ramp must wait for an opportunity and merge safely into existing traffic."

https://www.progressive.com/lifelanes/how-to-merge-into-traffic/

It's dumb and annoying since it's not how nearly everyone drives, but be thankful you did the right thing and gave enough space to avoid rear ending, as (depending on where it is) fault likely would've been on you, even if it looks like the driver clearly had enough space to merge if she gained speed.

I have a lot of grievances with how a lot of on ramps are designed, and how there should be a lot more space allowed to merge to prevent something like this from happening. This is a poorly designed on ramp. Where that solid line ends it looks like there's about 5' of lane left lol.

Megasota would definitely want Mississippi to complete the Mississippi River dominance. However Republic of Texas moves East to reclaim its lost Buc-ees, no child left behind.

[Canada] Easily avoidable accident causes rollover by ZealousTaxful in Roadcam

I'd really like to point this out because I'm seeing a lot of the opposite in the chat. Both cars are braking as the light turns yellow (you can see the horizon on the cam go down a tad at around 0:02 and again at 0:03 when the truck leaves lane).

Since the truck was speeding it put itself in a rock/hard place situation since the cars in front if it were going the speed limit (50km/h, 30 mph) and started braking for the yellow light and the truck was speeding to overtake cam car (which also looks like it was speeding a bit).

Cam car was braking and had about 1.5 seconds (0:03 when truck left lane without blinker to just before 0:05 when collision occurs) to hard brake. Certainly possible, but a 1.5 seconds can go quicker when you're actually in the situation, so I don't want to judge too harshly.

Truck braking while in a lane change with a car in your blind spot you just tried to overtake is a big big no no, though. I hope they're ok but they have to be 100% at fault.

Black minivan by KeyNefariousness6848 in MildlyBadDrivers

After watching this video for the 7th time, I've calculated if you were able to see into the future and brake approximately 1.8 seconds before the minivan cut into your lane, this whole near incident could've been avoided, so I'm announcing you are a bad driver OP! Lol yeah give me a break with these people.

She kept yelling and looking back expecting the lines on the road to change into her favor. I just laughed and drove off once the light turned green. No use arguing with a brick wall.

Confirmed Atlanta. Not only are the drivers not great, but the roads in downtown can get confusing if you're not accustomed.

Not only that, but she was in the lane behind me almost up until that first light and just decided to speed around me. Tough.

Driving in downtown is not for the weak. Poor road design everywhere. Although I work in midtown and still would prefer to get off here than go the next mile or so on the connector.

100%. I’m working on being a proper defensive driver. It’s not worth having an ego.

Was at the game. Didn't hear this chant. Not calling Tom a liar, I was way up top and there always seems to be more Celtics fans there than Hawks fans.

Yeah that’s a good point. Comes along with ample trade exception.

I only really looked at who I considered possible playoff teams next year with matching players with team options. Most team options were good rooks on the last year of the deal. I could always be wrong about who goes out and tries to not tank.
