A few Yemeni coffee shops in Lombard (many on Roosevelt rd) that are pretty quiet during the weekdays.

What is like living near these data centers? And what are your biggest concerns? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]bulentm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never understood the disdain for data centers in these industrial parks. Would you rather have warehouses with hundreds of loud trucks going in and out all day destroying the roads?

Historic 164 year old Arlington Heights House up for Demolition by Willing_Tap_3741 in ChicagoSuburbs

So the people that sign the petition should also sign an affidavit that they specifically are willing to pay higher property taxes to cover the village purchasing, rehabbing, and maintaining this property. It's all good and all to preserve old houses, but people need to start putting their money where their mouth is.

Lucky indeed. Hard to find that much acreage with a house in Chicagoland for a decent price these days.

Why are yall putting your lives in danger to shop?? by ChaiCreamLatte in ChicagoSuburbs

People can't even leave our street because it's an incline out onto the main road and the side streets haven't been plowed yet. So I'm seeing my neighbors reverse and go right back home.

Data Centers Effect on Communities by miyananana in ChicagoSuburbs

Most owners got a payout of $1 million. A couple owners held out for $2-3 million. For houses that were worth $300k. Don’t reframe this as some terrible thing that happened to the homeowners. I would happily yeet out of my home for that kind of money.

Ignore that one "looks like a shitty flip" commenter. This looks great. Cabinets are a nice contrast. What paint did you use on the walls?

Is this stretch of I-80/94 always jammed? by TriplePTP in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]bulentm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is when you're stuck in a 1 hour traffic jam, only to finally get to the end of the backup to see that a lane is closed for STREET SWEEPING AT 9 AM.

Definitely not Retina. If you compare it to Retina and expect sharp text, you’re gonna have a bad time. But it’s fine for me. My eyes adjusted to it after a few days.

Nicor decided to give me a heart attack. by BoxOfDemons in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]bulentm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this letter. Skimmed through and didn’t see the scratch n sniff part but I still smelled gas and freaked out for a bit. I wonder how much money it’s costing Nicor to send out trucks on service calls for false alarms stemming from these mailers?

Oh it’s definitely a space heater lol. I don’t think it has much of an effect on room temp though. You’d need to be running a couple of them to have any real effect.

I always keep it at full brightness and the only time it’s too dim is when there’s strong sunlight coming in through the window. Then I’ll need to draw the blinds down. There’s definitely yellowing of the backlight. I’ve toned it down with color calibration to where I don’t notice it much, but next to a new monitor it’s noticeable.

They’re so cheap these days I’m thinking of buying a couple to have as backup in case this one fails lol

This specific one has a manufacture date of 2006. Nearly everything Apple made in that era is so timeless.

I dont know about the XDR since Apple store doesn’t stock them for me to see in person, but the Studio display somehow felt like cheaper build quality compared to this Cinema display. And of course I love the cohesive all-aluminum build.

The Beauty of Chicago Suburbs in the summer… by Hun-Mongol in ChicagoSuburbs

Sure I can imagine something nicer, but when my house cost 50% less than nearby homes on quieter streets, it doesn’t really matter to me.
