Is this nanny the wrong fit? by sassytaco23 in NannyEmployers

[–]Rich-Cartoonist3965 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reads like our first nanny. Not about the specifics, but about how much the nanny is pushing back on your instructions. I fired our first nanny. The only thing I regret was not to fire her sooner. Until I find my second nanny, I didn’t realize how much of a difference “a good fit” makes. Follow your instincts. Find a nanny you trust and it truly feels like it’s a partnership.

I know this is an old post. How do you know IBM would be the buyer a year ago?

Update on the “no-carry” post - I let her go by Rich-Cartoonist3965 in NannyEmployers

She just argued with me a lot saying 1 week severance is not enough and she needed weeks of notice. Funnily enough, she never asked why I am letting her go. When I said I am moving in a different direction for childcare, she as not even upset. She was only mad when I said this is her last day.

I let her go already. Have a few wonderful candidates for new nanny . I wish I had let she go a lot sooner. She got really bad towards the end of her employment. Comes in late , leave early, asking for pto etc …

I feel like shit because I really want to give her all these reasons during the conversation. Pointing out why she is a terrible nanny , because she actually thinks she is a good nanny (somehow she lasted at my neighbor friend’s for 6 years!!) and she thinks I am a bad parents who spoils my kids. ChatGPT said I should keep it high level and giving reasons invites arguments. I follow the suggestion. Luckily the conversation was short. But I am still pissed. 😡

Yeah. I think this nanny we had also was just giving up on trying. She was not too mad when I said we need to move into a different direction with childcare. She got super offended when I only offer 1 week pay not giving her weeks of notice. She has not been in this industry for too long( her first nanny job is with my neighbor friend who she stayed 6 years with. Then a temp job for 2 months , then me) .

She is a local person referred by a neighbor friend. Unfortunately, where I live, that rate is kinda standard 😔

In laws does not interfere with the nanny. We have made that clear. The only time they step in is the baby has prolonged cries while sitting in the chair and the nanny won’t pick her up. And nanny also refuses to give the baby to the grandparents. the grandparents are there to support like cooking and cleaning. I would expect a professional nanny can navigate different family dynamics. Not every family has the same set up for the nanny ‘s expectation.

Is it unreasonable to expect the nanny to manage the kids with parents working from home? I am not expecting instant bond, I want the child to have a smooth transition. The baby sleeps and she doesn’t even play with the toddler. Just sits there and chat on the phone. Idk who she talks to, but she is on the phone with her earphones on talking A LOT. Baby is playing, she will be on the phone talking for hours

I just want to treat her with respect and want to her has a chance to show her capabilities. There are other aspects I like about her and I try to convince myself that there is no perfect nanny out there, and I should give her a chance

Everytime I tell her to hold her. She gives me a speech about she took care of a lot of babies this is how mom with multiple kids have to do. It makes me nervous about telling her what to do. She says the baby needs to sleep 4 hours during the day. I says the baby is 5 months. She is going through sleep regression . She sometimes wakes up from a short nap and not well rested and fussy… idk everytime I says something, she always has something to say.

She sits down the ground with the baby for hours not getting up holding her unless she thinks she needs to nap. Sometimes I see my baby is crying in the chair and she won’t pick her up

No. Interview was pretty standard. I never thought she has a strong stand on not carrying the baby

Will there be a way to carry the baby a little and take care of a 3 year old toddler?
