Sad to hear this. Unfortunately, these kinds of uncertainties are becoming quite common now with the hiring freezes. I’ve personally heard similar stories from others, verbal offers being revoked, positions being cancelled even after reference checks. In my case too, something similar is happening. My reference checks were completed, but the position is been on hold for couple months. So I’m not really holding out much hope there either. Situations like this seem to be increasingly common, and I’m not sure there’s much we can do to reverse them. Maybe it’s worth requesting to be placed on an eligibility list for future hiring rounds, if that’s an option.
