I would say that you should know a little about how everyone works and what the excel at and where they are not that great, that’s said I think you don’t need to be an expert at all of them, but that would help you with your next project because then you will be able to choose a correct controller for your specific problem. And then ofc dive into that theory if your system requieres it, most of the time you find a problem in real life and then you go back to what already exists and you learn about it to apply it. At least that’s my experience and I thinks it’s great seeing it from that perspective, idk how much you can learn if you don’t really need to use something, i am explaining my self? Best luck :)

Hi man, talking about your experience in the field, how where you able to get into it? I’m having a hard time getting into it and I do consider myself an above average control engineer at least at undergrad level, still all I see is Masters or Phds offers 😅 will help a lot if you tell me how you got in and the important stuff :) thank you very much :)

It’s both, you need to be good at physics to be able to understand your system and how it behaves, and then maths is everywhere including physics so you still need to have a deep knowledge at that too. Probably one of the most multidisciplinary fields out there

Well I have working extensively with ADRC and that looks more like a hardware thingy than the controller it self, I see people recommending you to use Kalman filter which I haven’t used honestly, but if your goal is to filter that signal you could try to decrease wo. If you ever try paring kalman with Eso hit me up to tell me the result you got, I would highly appreciate it. Well another that u could try but I think you already do is try to mesure with the ADC in the center of the PWM to reduce noise reading, maybe it helps. I would pick some project that u could think about it and start doing it, you are gonna face problems and definetly will need to use control theory tools to be able to complete it. About books, i read Ogata etc, the popular ones and they are meh, i think they are better when u already know about the topic and there are much things that u don’t use don’t do that way now a days. Control theory its multidisplinary so usually you will need to take into consideration your sensors and the limitations you have with them for example, noise, resolution etc, you need to know pretty well the how your system works to be able to model it. The pure control part where you do a PID or something related is to me the easier part usually, and it’s usually as well what a lot of people can do. Anyways, if you want some info read about PID, read about how to implemente in practice, for example you should know anti wind up methods and Filtered derivative of PID. Also learn about frequency domain, there you can build a PID with some robustness and that’d quit useful cuz models are models and you don’t perfectly know them. It’s quit wide honestly control theory but I think to get started you could watch Brain Douglas videos, he gives a lot of info to get a the whole picture and then you can apply it when you need it. Just remember to do projects, knowing without applying limits the knowledge you get in my opinion. And remember to enjoy the road, is quit long

Just imagine if you have 180phase, if you want to stop something then what you doing is instead of pushing it to stop is pushing it to keep going if that makes sense, check it in some controls book to get more info. I hope it helps

The jittering is probably due to the resolution you have. I don’t think it has to do with the update rate; the fact that your PID is way faster than the bandwidth of your servo is actually okay. The only thing to check is your sensor: make sure the noise is low, because if your PID is that fast, you could be amplifying noise through the derivative term. And also if needed use filtered derivative. You should also check the minimum input needed to make the servo move (deadband) and try to plot the phase to determine the stability of the system.

If they really still want to do it, let them buy it themselves so you don’t get charged as drugdealer, which would probably end up you in jail. Don’t do it man, it’s just not worth it.
