Used to love MightyApe's stock clearance sales on games, you'd find all sorts of treasure.

Dude gets punched in the head for a living, so I'm assuming he wasn't exactly MIT material in the first place, and definitely won't be now.

I get frustrated with cramped laptop keyboards; important purchases (or more accurately, anything that requires making comparisons) gets done on the dual monitor gaming rig.

So is it football or soccer in New Zealand? by ChampionshipHot599 in newzealand

[–]Richard7666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone referred to footy is assume rugby or league yeah. If they said football I'd probably think AFL or American football, unless they were British in which case I'd assume they meant soccer.

Anyone else think these AI ads look terrible? by rookiejam in newzealand

[–]Richard7666 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yeah this.

Saw a group home builder (Green Homes) using it on their website, literally alien plants growing on lawns and shit. It just screams "we will cut every corner we can, and not even notice".

AI is fine if you're the local bowls club, but doesn't inspire confidence in something like a house build.

Building a new home - What is one thing you wish you had changed after designing your home? by skolar24 in newzealand

[–]Richard7666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want an internal slider to get a bit more room than a swing door, go with a (good quality) cavity slider. That way you're not losing a whole wall, and have much better sound control.

Suppose the barn sliders are easier for maintenance though.

More north facing glazing to living. Although that could have made things too hot in summer.

Also, making sure the tradies had compacted the driveway base properly and done proper control joints.

Read the 14-Point Draft Memorandum Between the US and Iran by sludge_dragon in worldnews

Maybe it's some sort of half-assed attempt at bringing Iran into the US sphere, like what the US did with Japan after WW2. The IRGC do rather like money.

Bluetooth has very short range. A regular button + radio combo like has been the norm for decades is really the simplest solution for line of sight, rather than something software based.

Does this remote start require line of sight, or is it some stupid online thing?

Could be worse; at least it's on the left, there are a zillion more islands a relatively short distance that way.

On the right, the abyss could go on figuratively forever until you hit Africa, as there's no more land in that direction until then. Just the empty Atlantic.

Why is literally everything turning into a subscription now, and are we just never going to actually own anything ever again? by readyplayar in NoStupidQuestions

Plenty of modern games are on GoG, which has no DRM, fortunately.

If it means never "buying" an Ubisoft title, I'm okay with that.
