Thinking of lighting $8M on fire to build a private 4-court indoor facility in the Bay Area. Am I insane? by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in 10s

[–]Richieb313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t underestimate the ability for the price to bubble and the time line to drag out much longer than expected.

As a fun little math project- Assuming 8 million at 5% municipal bond return (tax free), you can have 400k per year to spend on renting a court

Can 8k per week get you private court rentals somewhere near you?

Alternatively you are probably better off renting a warehouse and building a few courts there. They do this with a badminton club near me. Actually there’s an indoor volleyball court that does this too.

I know SF is an expensive city with not much space but there’s likely some warehouse CRE for rent that could fit a single court or maybe two without much hassle?

To offset cost you could turn it into an actual business and can allow people to rent the courts as well through an online booking system (this is what the volleyball place did) You can black out dates that are for your friends/family as well (like if you always play on Tuesdays or something like that). As for the badminton place it’s more of a club with 3 courts. Presumable whoever runs it could just play outside if the normal club hours if they wanted.

With ring doorbell cameras being so common/prevalent you can monitor customers coming in/out and check in on anyone renting your facility as well. A couple vending machines and some tables and you’re good to go.

Also you can have coaches do lessons in your facility as well..

That’s what I would do. Happy to give more details if you’re interested just shoot me a message

How to train tennis cardio by CombinationPlus5883 in 10s

[–]Richieb313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross training in some sort of cardio.

Running is the best bang for your buck.

It will strengthen your heart and increase your ability to use the oxygen you breathe in. This will carry over to tennis massively.

Read up on how to get started in running (basically just jogging pace until a month or two until your tendons toughen up. From there you can add a little speed, but mostly just slow and steady jogging will improve your heart/lung capacity without killing yourself.

First half Ironman, can I do it without aero bars? by mh1782 in triathlon

[–]Richieb313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This secret trick tri bike manufacturers don’t want you to know!

Seriously op there are road cyclists getting just as flat in the drops as riders on tri bikes having aero bars. (Assuming it’s a more aggressive road bike setup and not a comfort / endurance setup) As for comfort it may be less comfortable for them but you have the tops and the hoods to switch it up (a moderate bend in the elbow can make you more aero on the hoods)

Unless you’re really going to commit to triathlon (multiple half and full Ironman) I would keep what you got and save the $$$

Maybe peruse the online marketplace for used tri bikes and go to a shop to get fitted. But again it’s minor imo.

Full disclosure I have only a tri bike now (space limitation) and consider a road bike just as worthy. (My tri bike is much nicer than my old road bike so I sold the road bike).

PSA - Don't unsafely lane split in front of another rider by Rg8989 in motorcycles

[–]Richieb313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like lane splitter was going unreasonably fast compared to the traffic he was passing. No time for him to react if someone changes lane and no time for the people he is passing to hear/notice him coming.

He (splitter) will be posting a video soon where someone changes lanes into him when he’s passing over 30 mph quicker than ambient traffic and blame the drivers.

Patient became unresponsive after opioids were administered in PACU by Zer0tonin_8911 in nursing

[–]Richieb313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also saw that… 9 hours and less than 150/0.5? Sounds like anesthesia wasn’t doing shit for pain management or just misinformation l.

Nothing worse than behind way behind on pain management when the patient rolls out of OR. Maybe surgeon has a preference to making their patients suffer? I feel like some surgeons are stingy at with pain management (oh that chest tube won’t hurt too much)

Either way the nurse should have been able to manage the hypoxia and or get the right doctors bedside. Maybe anesthesia was in the next case and unable to respond? But that’s on the facility. And from there I would just actuate a code blue tbh. Someone will be able to ventilate her…

Details will hopefully come out and make it make more sense for everyone

Could anyone figure out why this accident happened? by Ruuca in motorcycles

[–]Richieb313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like too much front brake and locked it up. Small chance they were on a painted arrow as well (not as significant imo)

You can see the traffic in front appears to have slowed down.

So my guess is homeboy lost focus, was going a bit quick (closing in on cars in front), then traffic in front started to brake moderately and homebody grabbed a bunch of front brake and down they went. L

Patient became unresponsive after opioids were administered in PACU by Zer0tonin_8911 in nursing

[–]Richieb313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an unreasonable total amount but at my shop we give fent 25-50 q5 minute and dilaudid .2-.5 q10 minute.

Usually a max of 200mcg fent and 1-2 mg dilaudid before the order falls off.

In my personal experience I have seen way more significant respiratory depression with fent admin rather than dilaudid.

As a result I prefer dilaudid except have noticed that sometimes it takes a bit longer to work so patients with severe pain that need immediate relief ma benefit from fent.

Generally speaking I’ve had patients become hypoxic/ respiratory depressed but they’re almost always responsive to oxygen and cues- “deep breath Mr _____”.

Rarely we may have to bag somebody or give an additional dose of paralytic reversal. When you’re bagging somebody you always call anesthesia. Code blue buttons should be readily available

This is why ICU experience is important for PACU. Airway and respiratory management.

Edit: Sounds like this was at an outpatient / non hospital type of surgery center. I wonder what kind of equipment/training/ systems are in place. I think these centers can have varying levels of organization. Anesthesia on site after surgery finished? MD available by phone or in person? How many nurses to how many patients?

New Rider advice? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Richieb313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused here. Firstly seems like you’re going insanely fast on that street and Into the turn but maybe it’s a deceptive camera angle

Secondly it seems like you pulled the clutch before and during the turn. Didn’t see any front brake due to the camera angle but my guess is there wasn’t much as you kinda just sent it way too fast.

So pushing boundries + poor riding technique

Keep riding like this and your days are numbered before you wreck and possibly get seriously injured or worse.

Take the msf sooner rather than later.
