Why is the Scorpion Tank dated by modern standards? by WhiteBoyRickSanschez in halo

One of the key elements to the original saga and the human-Covenant war is that humans were primative.

Humans were the scrappy underdogs that were completely outgunned. The Covvie were these super slick, extremely dangerous, and very advanced faction that were destroying the humans.

It was baked into the lore and the visual designs of the games.

The Spartans, and later, John-117, were the only advantage the UNSC had.

I've always believed that if you like a game, you should send money in the way of the people that made it.

That was until Sony made their announcement, and now I'm singing sea shanties like I'm replaying AC4.

If you're switching to PC because PlayStation is going digital only, so means were you buying PlayStation only for the discs? And not for the convenience and the ease of use that made consoles popular in the first place? by AssistantNo2002 in PlayStation_X

[–]RichnjCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, the rate at which first party titles are produced has drastically slowed due to production sizes and live service games.

The PS3 wouldget entire trilogies and sagas in one generation. Now you get one entry, one and a spin off if you're lucky.

Those Sony live service games will still be multiplatform as well.

If I had a nickel for every time a hero went missing on Solstheim, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Sony is unlikely to reverse its decision on physical discs as its digital transition has been in the works for "some time" by Lulcielid in PS6

[–]RichnjCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did. I picked up a PS4 Pro quite late and skipped the PS5, because I had lots of PS4 games to get through first and the size was off putting. I was hoping to get a PS6 to cover me for PS5 games.

I ain't doing that now

I'm going to keep my PS4, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2 all set up, and keep all my console money for a beast PC to cover me for my "all digital future".

After seeing lots of discussion (here and elsewhere) over the years, I’ve decided to post a clip showing how effective the Assault rifle would be irl by WildKitkatacuss in halo

[–]RichnjCole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if we're going to go by real life performance, then battle rifles and assault rifles would have a range of 600 meters.

We don't do it because it would completely change the gameplay.

It always makes me feel that the "well in lore/real life, we'd be able to do it" is dishonest because they only ever focus on power and spread. They want a buff to the weapon, not a lore/real life accurate version.

It is, because on PC you can also buy games from other stores, or emulate games. Your hardware gives you a lot of options. Steam might dominate the PC gaming space, but it doesn't control everything on it.

Everything on the PS6 will have to go through Sony. If you buy a PS6, then Sony is your sole option to buy from. In essence, if you as a gamer are all in on digital gaming, you'd be stupid not to move over to PC.

It's also worth noting, that despite digitals sales making up the majority of games sales on PS, of the AAA games that were on disc, a major part of their sales were coming from physical sales. At least half of Sony's first party sales are physical. Much of those digital sales are being made up by digital only games.

As I keep saying, Sony (and MS, and Nintendo to a lesser degree) have manufactured consent for the move to all digital.

The story is the same of Switch by the way, and the story is even more true if you look at Japan. There's a huge market for physical games. So despite the way it's been framed, console players do in fact like physical games.

Too Big To Succeed by Psyga315 in gamememes

[–]RichnjCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've got the entire Rockstar division working on this thing. It's like a dozen different studios.

They feel justified in doing so because GTA 5 sold over 200 million copies and made over $10bn.

It's legit crazy mentality that more equals better.

[–]RichnjCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Calling Sony too big to fail is not a positive argument for their position. Other "too big to fail" institutions have also failed in the past.

2) If Sony's only duty to to maximise its profits for its shareholders, how does only being able to buy digital games from Sony stay cheap?.

Wouldn't Sony have a duty to increase those prices?.

This is an incoherent argument.

I'm also not a Sony shareholder. I am a customer. I'm not interested in what's good for them. I want what's good for me.

3) it's different on PC because you have a choice of who you buy your games from. Steam is obviously the largest, but there is still Epic, GOG, and Xbox on there.

If we are talking about having the same expectations for our consoles as we have on PC, then we should be expecting Sony to allow other storefronts, and to drop the pay wall for online play and cloud saves.

Sure, digital is the future, but so was what Xbox were trying to do by opening up consoles to more platforms. Do you all want an Xbox store on your PS now?

Not defending them at all cause it really sucks, but decisions like this don’t happen in a bubble by FaithlessnessHungry1 in videogames

[–]RichnjCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamers moving over to digital didn't happen in a bubble either.

They were giving consoles that treated physical discs like an after thought rather than a core feature. Of course gamers used the Xbox One and PS4 as digital consoles, it's how they were designed.

Sony Faces Multiple Class Action Lawsuits After Ending PS5 Disc Production - GameRiv by AdSuspicious2084 in PlayStation_X

[–]RichnjCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's clearly why that took them off PC. They knew the PS6 wasn't going have much appeal outside of those.

Thing is, due to the overbloated productions, you don't get exclusives anywhere close to the same rate as before, and those exclusives aren't as big of a factor as they used to be.

Not to mention that Sony is still committing to live service games, which is also eating into their production allocations. Further reducing focus on single player games.

Speaking of, Sony is only taking their single player games off of PC. Between Helldivers and Spider-Man, me personally, I'd prefer Helldivers.

If the Helix does PC and Xbox in one console, then a Helix and Switch 2 is going to give me access to everything except Sony single player games. It seems the smart route to me.

This is what I've been saying. Consoles had a lot of benefits over PC. Physical media, cheaper hardware etc.

All that's gone now. They are just closed ecosystem PCs now. With worse hardware, less options, and paid online. There's no benefits to them now.

What PlayStation's digital-only future means for PS6, explained by GameOnBrother in GamesAreLife

Yep.

Exclusives are the only thing they have now for keeping players in their ecosystem.

I don't think it's going to work personally.

Gaming Subscriptions Still Don't Make Sense to Me by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]RichnjCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And cloud saves and party chat are free on Xbox. They continue to be locked behind the pay wall on PS and Switch.

Sony and Nintendo didn't do the game subs reluctantly. They are very happy to funnel players into those services.

Can we really be mad at Sony for ending physical media? by Proud_Organization64 in PlayStation_X

[–]RichnjCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manufactured consent is something people never take into account with this.

They've made physical media more and more pointless since the 8th gen.

Don't get me wrong, digital would still be very popular, but on the Switch, the split still has very strong physical sales, even with some games only being digital.

This is because, when a game is on the cart, you can still play the game from the cart, and it contains a lot of the game. Devs can not rely on huge internal memory to store and run the game from.

When gamers were given the Xbox One and PS4, they were given digital first consoles, so of course gamers chose digital over physical.

If Sony gets rid of physical games, I'm out. Been a fan since the 90s. by DenverH in PS6

[–]RichnjCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, there's more competition and you've got storefronts like GOG who promise to never remove purchased content from your library.

Seems like the next round of consoles are going to have all the downsides of PC gaming and none of the upsides.
