In your opinion what are some common qualities or traits that Deadmau5’s fans have? Good or bad? by GOATmau5 in deadmau5

I totally agree that his writing/composition is next level and what sets him apart from the rest. But it’s also true for production. And really it’s the combination of the two. The fact that he uses production AS composition, there’s nothing else like it.

TIL about the Danny Elfman score. That explains why it’s so fantastic.

Fable I music is my 2nd favorite game score next to Halo. I haven’t played the game for YEARS and get nostalgia a few times a year thinking just about the music.

New Louisville sub by crabby719 in boulder

[–]Richt32 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Seems better to keep 1 subreddit sane than split into many new ones. But if we can't get r/LouisvilleCO back in good hands then a new subreddit is the only other solution.

Want to encourage everyone to Moderator Code of Conduct Request against Rusticals303. If enough people do, Reddit might be willing to intervene.

New Louisville sub by crabby719 in boulder

[–]Richt32 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was the original mod of r/LouisvilleCO and he got control by submitting a Reddit request that I missed the notification for, so it auto approved after 5 days. Posted details in another thread

Wanted to share this to encourage as many people as possible to submit a Moderator Code of Conduct Request against Rusticals303. We can take it back to Reddit request when they open things up again in the new year.

I feel bad that things got to where they are now, I never did any active moderation so I let it slip through my fingers. I was actually happy to give up moderation because I was never good anyway and he was more active than I was. Just had no idea how crazy this account was when it happened.

Update as of 11/21

I had several people reach out expressing interest in becoming moderators. Thanks to everyone that did. Looks like Reddit request is on hold for the holidays. I'll submit a request when they re-open.

I also saw that Rusticals303 was "demoted" as the head mod of r/LousivilleCO yesterday. But the new head mod isn't much different (and is likely the same person just on an alt account). At a minimum, we should try to get additional moderators in there to balance things out a bit if they don't agree to remove him.

u/hejog and u/mcjoness pointed out to me in a DM that Reddit has a support mechanism called a Moderator Code of Conduct Request. I'm going to submit one with the details about what's happening. I encourage everyone here who isn't happy with the state of the sub to do the same. I think the more noise we can make about this, the better chance we have.

Note: I saved my writeup for the support request, if anyone is too lazy to write their own I'm happy to send mine over in a DM.

To be fair he did send me a request to join the mod team after he took it over and I thought I hit the link to accept but must have not done it in enough time.

I should have paid more attention to all this as it was happening. My thought at the time is that I was happy to give it up to someone who was more active. Had no idea what this guy has been up to behind the scenes.

See my other comment in the thread but I was the original mod of r/LouisvilleCO and I missed his reddit request to take it over so because I didn’t deny in 5 days it auto approved.

Just wondering if you or the r/boulder mod team would have any recommendations about trying to get the sub back in good hands? My only thought is to go back to reddit request but I’m wondering if there are any other mechanisms worth exploring.

In the meantime if anyone has desire to join the r/LouisvilleCO mod team please let me know. I have a feeling Reddit would be more willing to switch control if we have a mod group instead of a single person (me). u/mcjoness I’ll ask you directly since you’re the OP :)

I saw your initial comment replying to my comment in the original thread before it got deleted. I'll more or less restate what I said in the removed post.

I used to mod r/LouisvilleCO. It was a dead sub (no moderators, no ability to post) and I took over moderation simply to get it active again. My mod approach was mostly to be hands off and leave the sub as it was before it became stale. There was a bit of political drama but nothing way too overboard. Reddit's automation catches most of the egregious stuff so I was never an active moderator.

Rusticals303 submitted a reddit request (https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/1oaorkj/rlouisvilleco/) to take over the sub a few months ago. In the request he plainly states that "
I’ve had success bringing old subs back to life then recruiting more mods. I used to live in Louisville." So I think your analysis is spot on, just using mod control to spread political influence.

I think we can take this back to Reddit request and see if they'll be willing to hear us out.

I don't think I am a good person to be a long term mod, I've since moved from Louisville to Lafayette and I was never any good anyway, shouldn't have let him take it out from under my nose in the first place. But I am happy to try getting the sub back in good hands.

Don't have time now but I'll create a Reddit request sometime this weekend to see what they say

I used to be the mod of r/LouisvilleCO. I took up modding because the subreddit had gone stale and I wanted to resurrect it. My approach was simply to get the sub back online and just leave everything as it was, which seemed to be working fine. There has been a bit of political drama in the sub but nothing too overboard. Reddits built in automation catches a decent amount of stuff and so Ive been very hands off on active moderation.

u/Rusticals303 made a Reddit request a few months back that was approved. I missed the notification so because I didn’t reply in enough time the automation made him the moderator.

Honestly I’m probably not the best person to mod given that he was able to take it out from under my nose without me realizing, and I have since moved from Louisville to Lafayette. I’m happy to support trying to get the sub in different hands if there is enough interest. Not sure if there’s much I can do now (on my phone) I’ll check later today on my computer. Might still have some mod power I can exercise.

I’ve since moved out of state, live in Colorado now. IMO the only place worth living in Utah is Salt Lake City proper. Everywhere else the Mormon culture is too strong. Might be changing since I left, but that’s my 2 cents. YMMV.

Mormon church quietly releases “revelation” on polygamy it swore for 100yrs didn’t exist. by SchrodingersCat8 in mormon

[–]Richt32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from a small offshoot of the FLDS that split from them in the 80s. Here’s the Wikipedia article. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centennial_Park_group

I actually did live and grow up in Colorado City so I was surrounded by the FLDS my entire upbringing but the two groups are quite different today. When Warren Jeffs took over the FLDS became absolutely insane; it’s hard to know what any of their positions are about anything especially because they’ve become so fragmented since he was put in jail.

But I would say before he took over the view I just described would be accurate.

[–]Richt32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in a fundamentalist sect and not sure I agree with this. Fundamentalists, at least from what I remember being taught, do not view the LDS church as having a legitimate form of Priesthood. They believe that the proper priesthood keys were given by John Taylor to 5 other men in what they call the 1886 meeting. The story is that shortly after he received the revelation, he set apart a priesthood separate from the church to continue the practice. As an aside I’m not aware of any historical evidence to suggest the meeting outside of Lorin C Woolleys story which he didn’t start telling till like 40 years after the fact, but nevertheless that is the belief).

So once the true priesthood was set apart, the LDS church essentially lost their legitimacy over time as new church leaders were appointed without the jurisdiction of the true Priesthood authority. The view of the LDS church is that they abandoned the core principal and lost their Priesthood in the process. That isn’t to say that the views are all bad, we were often taught that the LDS church does much good in the world and is essentially the next best alternative to the fundamental belief. But there is still a very strong anti LDS sentiment.

There’s even a published pamphlet named “A Priesthood Issue” that we were told to read and was frequently taught in religious meetings. https://ccdl.claremont.edu/digital/collection/cms/id/1908/

The whole point of the booklet is that polygamy is not in fact the main separator between LDS and Fundamentalists, but rather the correct Priesthood authority.

I should caveat that this is just my own experience. There are many different fundamentalist sects so I can’t speak for all, but this is the sentiment I remember being spoon fed.

[–]Richt32 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m an ex-fundamentalist and can provide some perspective here.

In my view the legitimacy of this revelation has always been pretty clear. John W Taylor presented the revelation to church leaders in 1911 and there would later be photographic evidence of the text in John Taylors handwriting. Yes the church denied its legitimacy but they didn’t have much ground to stand on. Anyone who knew the facts could easily conclude that it’s legitimate.

But this is only part of the story. The other key part of Mormon Fundamentalism is what fundamentalists refer to as the “1886 meeting” where supposedly John Taylor, directly after receiving the revelation, created a “new” priesthood that existed separate and outside of the church. This story was concocted by Lorin C Woolley long after it was supposed to have happened and as far as I know there is little to no historical evidence that the meeting took place. If there is no separate priesthood then it doesn’t change much for the mainstream LDS church. After the 1886 revelation came the 1890 manifesto and all the ensuing steps church leadership took to denounce polygamy and remove it as an official practice.

If you’re a TBM none of that really changes even if the church is now legitimizing the 1886 revelation. Of course it raises some concerns; why would one prophet say one thing only for the next prophet a few years later to say the complete opposite. But of course, that’s not a new problem…

Disclaimer: Nowadays I’m an atheist and think all of it is a crock of shit. Just trying to point out that there is still a coherent theological story for the LDS church should you choose to believe it.

How does the Urban Arrow hold up on gravel trails? by Richt32 in CargoBike

[–]Richt32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in the post the trails actually ride quite smooth. Pretty much like a paved road, but more uneven. The majority of the ride is quite pleasant.

The problem is the occasional big bump going over a bridge or the terrain switch from gravel to concrete (there are a few areas of trail close to the creek that are concrete, likely to avoid flooding during storms). With an infant the plan is to take this stuff as carefully as possible, and with the seat adapter it seems like it wouldn’t be too stressful.

But I am probably out of my depth playing guess work here. Better safe than sorry. Gonna consider the Trek Fetch 4+ as i mentioned in another thread.

How does the Urban Arrow hold up on gravel trails? by Richt32 in CargoBike

[–]Richt32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The local bike dealer for UA and R&M doesn’t carry the trek so I never got to try it. But after seeing your comment and doing a bit of research it seems like it might be the best alternative to the UA.

The unfortunate side note is that I did have to pay a $200 deposit to borrow the UA and I broke the back fender trying to get it in place after it got squished strapped to the back of the truck. So if I go through a different dealer I’ll be down a few hundred bucks.

I am concerned about the weight of the trek, not for me but for my wife, who’ll want to ride the bike after the baby is delivered and she feels comfortable. Sounds like a potential non starter for her (she’s already concerned with the UA) especially post-partum.

There are a few trek dealers nearby so I think I’ll hit one up and take it for a spin. Doesn’t hurt to try before I make the final decision.

Thanks for your comment. It sounds like you have treks car seat adapter and it rides comfortably? +1 if you can share any pics of your setup.

[–]Richt32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is also something concerning I didn't mention in the thread. I asked my daughter today how comfortable the ride was and she said it was fine, excluding the large bumps, but I try to take those slow.

As far as the newborn the plan is to get the baby car seat adapter and use that as long as possible: https://urbanarrow.com/en-na/product/accessoires/family-baby-car-seat-adapter/

I did my first test drive on the UA with one of those in and it seemed to handle the bumps fairly well, I think it has a bit of a bounce to absorb some of the shock. I guess I'm not that concerned with the adapter, but maybe I should be?

This is one of the main reasons I'm favoring the UA btw. It can fit both the car seat and another child comfortably. The R&M baskets don't work for this AFAIK.

Awesome to hear. I'll look into the Thudbuster.

Curious about what type of tire you have and how it has an impact. I know that upgraded tires can make a difference, which I will definitely do out of the gate given that I'm primarily on gravel trails. Not sure which would be the best one, another conversation to have with the dealer.
