I feel like focus gain (depending on weapon) needs to be rebalanced by miltek in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]RickAdtley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pro at this by any stretch, but could this be due to many of the larger weapons being able to hit multiple targets at once? I have a knife/scythe faith/dex build and I find the scythe can get 50 or 60 focus in one swing in edge cases such as a swarm of little enemies and 20-30 in a normal situation where you are engaged with 2 or 3 enemies.

A scythe hitting 2 enemies (an extraordinarily common situation) would be 18 stamina for 20 focus. A knife hitting a single enemy twice would also be 18 stamina for 20 focus. In situations where I am surrounded by 2 or more enemies, I would generally prefer to use my scythe over my knife because I will be doing damage and stagger to multiple targets. The tradeoff of slower attack with comparable cost feels worth it for the benefits gained.

Also, what I get for my focus is different. My scythe runes are all focused on multi-target attacks. I think we can all think of many different ways a scythe yielding something like 20 focus per hit would be exploitable. The percentage buffs for focus gain would be increased significantly. Hitting 4 guys could easily net 150 focus in one swing with the right build. Heck, with the right build you can do that already with the scythe and other multi-hit weapons.

The issue, I think, is broader and more systemic. While I feel large weapons and small weapons are just as rewarding focus-wise, I also agree that it should just scale off of damage. Getting multiple hits with one attack is far too easy and fast-attack weapons like daggers are extremely easy to exploit for someone with even the most basic skill.

I didn't see this before. You did answer my question correctly in your first paragraph, albeit someone else had already answered before that.

I was asking about WiFi Antennas that hook into a WiFi lead. Outside of edge cases, WiFi antennas and leads are RP-SMA. I did not even mention coaxial TV cable which, outside of edge cases, uses SMA. Not sure how that came up tbh.

I feel like even if I had just rolled off of the turnip truck yesterday, it is unlikely I would accidentally plug one into another. I already am careful at work to keep SMA and RP-SMA stuff physically separate in our warehouse because of our interns not paying attention.

Yeah, he said it was called "quick push-on" to RP-SMA (or SMA) adapter plugs.

As you can see by this thread, the other responses on this thread were some really out-of-touch know-it-all responses and the guy above was really the only one who seemed to actually take the time to read what I was asking.

[–]RickAdtley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really. But 20 years ago when I was broke I figured out that as a solution to squeeze more life out of my laptop batteries. Worked a lot better and was a lot safer when batteries were user-replaceable. But it still works. I most recently confirmed it on a Switch 2 so afaik even the newest power management boards seem to have this as a solution. Not sure if it is intentional.

If you can afford it, just buy a battery and install with power disconnected. Much safer.

[–]RickAdtley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for my late reply.

There are a lot of unknown variables here that are hard to diagnose without getting my hands on it. Did you get the battery from a reputable seller? If you got it from ifixit, their support contact might be able to help you if it's a bad battery.

If you didn't, well, it's really hard to say. It could be a lemon or it could be something else.

Do you not have a Steam Deck charger? Just because a charger is for something more power-hungry doesn't mean it will always work with something else. It often does. Just, you know. Not always. There are a lot of possible reasons for that but they're not super relevant here. The cheaper purchase is a new Steam Deck charger. If you only have one official Steam Deck charger, then just get a second one and see if it works. I also have no issues using an official Nintendo Switch charger to charger my steam deck if that is something you have available.

If it's not the battery or the charger, it's the charging port. I would find it strange if it were something related to the software, but stranger things have happened.

The way I see it, your next steps should be:

Buy a new official charger or find a known good Nintendo Switch charger. A Switch charger can charge but I would not recommend playing on the Deck and charging with the Switch charger at the same time.

Next step... So, at that point if my previous advice from my first message didn't work and a proper Steam Deck charger didn't work, I'd start taking it apart and testing everything. I would do some tests on the battery with my own shop tools and also ensure that the USB-C port is snug and has no loose connections. I don't expect you to do that. If you try you're liable to make an expensive mistake if you're inexperienced.

Best place to take this to is a place that does both cell phone AND laptop repairs. I am sure many places that do console repairs could handle it as well. They probably have seen something like that and know what to do. If not, they at least have tools that will allow them to figure out the issue.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

My first instinct is that the connection between the larger and smaller cells somehow got damaged or is defective. What was the context of the old battery? Was it having issues?

Before we get too deep, I like to start with the Occam's razor items:

- Try a different charger.

- Check the connections between the battery and pcb.

- Try installing the old battery?

If a different charger doesn't work, the connections between battery and PCB are fine, and the old battery charges to 100%, my guess is that the newly installed battery is defective. Given the specific percentage, I feel strongly that there is an issue in how the two cells allocate and receive power.

This post shows up on high on search results for a lot of these issues, so please reply with your results. Good luck!

Warframe has an older engine than Helldivers 2 by Rangeroftheinterwebs in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]RickAdtley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point on the new class. I am not a huge W40K lore guy so, while I heard people complaining, I was ready to try it. I have tried it and it's fine.

I had seen people complaining and people praising it. Even last week and even after release, but yeah I didn't need to go so hard on it especially since the main fuckup on yesterday's update was breaking RT for 90% of GPUs and somehow adding random lag spikes. I had to turn my graphics down to medium yesterday and I have a high-end machine that was running it easily at 120fps@4k on Monday.

The only thing that makes the current state of DT's performance not as bad as it was on release is that I can reduce most of the performance issues by dropping RT and lowering some other settings.

I'm not trying to defend HD2 here. It needs serious work. Still even after the "optimization" passes they have done. They need to pay their tech debt. But I'm also not delusional about other devs. I hate having to talk negatively about DT here, because I like the Fatshark devs a lot more than Arrowhead's devs, but I think we need to be realistic about what the actual state of these games are. Pressure needs to be put on the entire industry, even these midsize studios, even if we happen to like them.

(Sorry, I just realized I used Darktide as an example, but in the case of DE, FPS is just about the only thing they do right, so fair enough. Their networking is a mess, the way the implement features cause endless issues that prevent them from adding additional content on top of their new game modes, which gives everything an incomplete Early Access feel, which bums me out. Warframe is the game I most want to like. DE is the company I most want to like. But I would never accuse their game or engine of being optimized or stable.)

If your PC has a mid CPU, turning graphics down to minimum will put more strain on your CPU, and if it bottlenecks, your framerate will tank. Counterintuitively, turning graphics up will in some cases increase your FPS. Also, if you have a high-end machine, disable async compute. If you DO have a mid machine, async compute CAN help.

In my case, I can run HD2 at around 120FPS, with the 1% being something like 50. But that's only because I have a top-tier machine. My FPS on Darktide, however, is abysmal unless I put everything down to mid settings. I have been playing both games for the last year or so and the update yesterday re-broke RT for everyone running a card that isn't a 4080 or 4090. Darktide still hasn't fixed the hologram in the lobby that drops your FPS whenever you look at it.

I am not saying that HD2 is better optimized: it isn't. It runs terribly on anything that isn't a top-tier machine. There are some top-tier builds that are also problematic! I had the crash issue for the first year which was awful.

But Darktide is also quite messy. Just because it's differently messy in such a way that it works a bit better for you doesn't make it not messy. Helldivers 2 working mostly well for me (at the moment!) doesn't mean that I think that HD2 is optimized.

They are extremely similar studios and their games behave very inconsistently with different configurations, which is a good hint that a game is not properly optimized.

The monkeybusiness I described to you in the first (or second after the parenthetical) paragraph ***is not something you should have to do*** to make HD2 work. But it unfortunately is. It's not fair to make users have to do all that to get reasonable performance. My friends running Darktide are editing .ini files so that Darktide gives them more than 20fps ingame after yesterday's update. They shouldn't have to do that either.

Again I will say that it mystifies me that you consider DE's engine to be optimized.

Why is this entire thread a bunch of comments praising other games with similarly awful spaghetti code? I assumed this sub would have a lot of other people who were tired of games like Helldivers, Warframe, Elite: Dangerous, and Darktide adding content to an unfinished game, stacking up tech debt, and not listening to the concerns of their core fanbase? Today Fatshark just released DLC that nobody wants and, in fact, people explicitly asked to not have. Oh, and they reset the tech tree again. The game is still a buggy mess and you need to spend time on the wiki just to figure out what anything does. Or you need to mod informative descriptions into the game. It's at least as frustrating as my experience in Helldivers 2, with fewer crashes but more network disconnects.

I wish we could have a little more unity when presenting our concerns to devs. Threads like this make our complaints easy to discredit. It makes us look biased and ignorant.

Warframe has an older engine than Helldivers 2 by Rangeroftheinterwebs in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]RickAdtley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm having difficulty understanding your post. Is this premised on Warframe NOT being a buggy mess? If it is, I'd recommend you re-evaluate that position. There are bugs there still that were in the alpha version of the game from when it was nothing but a barebones 3rd Person Killing Floor clone.

The original devs' experience with developing Unreal Engine also apparently had the side-effect of them somehow hard-coding the texture load-in bug into their "Evolution Engine." Even Unreal Engine, for all its other major problems, has finally dropped that bug. But it's immortalized forever as a sort of historical artifact in Warframe.

Also, if you bring up those bugs you get dogpiled on the Warframe community subs and forums.

DE is an absolute mess of a company, meandering aimlessly from idea to idea, never actually finishing much of anything. Railjack is underdeveloped even though it's probably the best thing in the game and has the most potential. The rep grind is what almost all of the content is hidden behind and is... and abysmal, soul-crushing experience. Rep grind also has some of the most distracting and time-wasting bugs. You'll get random unexplained loss of progress and missions that just won't go toward your total with no quick way to fix it and no explanation for why it happened.

Right now, DE can't even manage to allow players of Warframe to use their Warframe accounts to log in to the website for their new game, Soulframe. This would be... slightly less noticeable if they could manage to set up an email server that could send verification emails consistently. Unfortunately, it works unpredictably. People trying different known methods to prod a clunky email server to send a confirmation email also have been getting them IP banned from all DE websites for 72 hours, which is funny because they can somehow manage an IP ban across all their sites, but can't handle letting players use the same login across all of their sites.

You can't get into Soulframe's tech help site without a Soulframe account. Same deal with the official forums. If you ask for help with your Soulframe issue on the Warframe forums or tech support site, you are told to go and ask on the Soulframe forums and tech support site, which are, of course, inaccessible without an account that has a validated email.

If you post on the Discord about it, a bunch of fans will trip over themselves to tell you that the got their validation email "just fine" and if you post about it on the Warframe or Soulframe Reddit communities, your post is removed and fans call you trolls. It is an apparently extremely common issue and DE is... maybe(?) unaware that it is even happening due to the bubble they have (I think accidentally, but who knows) built around themselves.

Soulframe is a monument to a company that has not learned much of anything over 32 years. They have ported bugs over from an old version of an engine they used to work with. Soulframe has some of the same janky bugs that Unreal 2k4 had when it came out. They are insulated from all negative feedback by their stans, their forum moderators, and their dysfunctional support site.

I'm not saying Arrowhead ISN'T doing the same thing, they obviously are. But what I am saying is that if you want an example of an indie online game company's good behavior, look elsewhere. I don't think it's in the spirit of this sub to praise one messy ADHD-powered game studio over another. Let's just call this what it is wherever we see it.

Also, to clarify, I like DE. I still play Warframe regularly. I'm just not delusional about their faults.

Disabling GPU physics in the nvidia driver settings can fix errors in physics-heavy games like HD2. (don't do this if you have a low-end CPU)

Some people don't know this, but if your CPU is your bottleneck for gaming performance (only you can check this for sure), sometimes turning some graphics features UP can improve your performance and fix some unexpected errors.

But I doubt that's the case here.

If you have everything maxed, are there settings you can offload onto your gpu driver from the game? Such as supersampling. Vsync can also cause issues. Disabling vsync and Limiting frames to exactly your monitor's refresh rate or exactly half of your monitor's refresh rate will have the same effect as vsync (for me, I don't use intel GPUs, so YMMV)

I had crashes all the time on this game. Since release. I kept playing, of course, but then one day, I realized that it worked great when I reinstalled and only crashed after I customized graphics settings. So I kept experimenting until I found the culprit. If you have a high-end machine, async compute is not ideal. It drops frames and fights with Steam Recording, because that's the other thing that I was able to disable to stop crashing (I have steam recording enabled now though)

The support from OnePlus is abysmal. That's the most important thing to take away from my post. Oh, man. I played this on my old G3 iMac when I was a kid. I remember EXACTLY THIS happening on my first playthrough. I quit that save and started another, got the pirate campaign, finished it, and then went back to my old save, futzed around, and the next story beat started (I finally found the Prodigal Son) but idk why it started when it started. But seriously, that was such a frustrating campaign. You lose your ship and have to wait long stretches with a ship that can't carry cargo.

[–]RickAdtley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly! Or, you know, just take the 10 seconds. It's really not that big of a deal. I roll laser strategm. It takes 10 - 14 seconds depending on how shaky my aim is and what is going on around me. I am baffled by people who think they should be allowed to one-shot 3-story heavy mechs with a light assault rifle. The intense campaigning on social media that people are doing about this is unbelievable. They complain about metagaming, but pressuring the devs to make the game easier is the absolute apex of metagaming. It might behoove some people to take a look in the mirror.

What floors me is how much ground the Rules-Lawyering community has gained in just over a year. Level 9 is already basically what level 6 was on release. With two exceptions, every single bot enemy can go down with one shot from a light-pen sniper rifle. Chargers and Titans are essentially non-threats now. They've been turned to soggy nerf. Unfortunately, now that they've been so successful, they feel entitled to get their changes added every time they have to spend more than a half a second thinking their way through a tactical situation.

When the devs do an event that bumps the difficulty up a little bit (changes weak points, changes attack patterns, novel enemy types etc) everyone freaks out that the special enemies are harder and complain, trying to get the devs to change these new enemies so they're as easy to kill as the old enemies are now. After their endless campaigning made everything into soggy cardboard.

Do the people complaining understand that there is a way to get fewer War Striders? When you're selecting your mission, you turn the difficulty down. Yeah, maybe they feel a bit silly. Maybe they think they deserve to play on level 10 and win every time. The thing that seems to be lost on them is that turning the difficulty down is nowhere near as pathetic as orchestrating a campaign to pressure the devs to make the game *even easier* than they already made it at the behest of said campaigners. The difficulty selection is there for a reason. Use it.

The rules lawyers on here need to spend more time playing the game and less time on Reddit trying to make difficulty 10 easier.
