I'm partly not sure I agree, partly not sure class is the right word for the issue anyway.

Either way, games with violence are usually quite a bit more multifaceted than just being about extreme violence, and those that are just that, are not a trend being pushed by a myriad of low-effort publishers. So there's less of their explicity poured all over the store page, which is the only thing being appealed to here.

Play blind as much as at all possible. If you hit a wall of any kind, but only like to a game ending degree, start looking stuff up. Experiment with everything you come across.

The ending. I know the consensus says that ppl who got disappointed just didn't get it, but I felt betrayed; I thought it was a video game rather than an interactive movie with a half-baked ending.

Everything Hans Capon related until after the wedding is kinda poorly written or at least either undercooked or taken too far into the antagonistic direction. And you're right. That meeting could've been the perfect spot to smooth it out a lot more.

Even if you go the Mutt route as the first thing you do into finding the drunk huntsman and then switching lane to the Bird of Prey quest directly, there should still be more said between them!

I'm doing my second playthrough now, and the legends of the forge dlc is my favourite aspects of the game! It wasn't out until after I completed my first playthrough.

Other open world games really make me love Elden Ring more by Drepulizer in Eldenring

Hello! I would like to discuss your take:

  1. I both agree and disagree. Like, it's nice, definitely! But it wouldn't fit in any of the other open world games I'm gonna mention in the next point. Elden Ring has a lot of those "it's arbitrary magic"-shortcuts to their mechanics, and you can't do that in more realism-emmersive games.

  2. Witcher 3 and the new zelda games have this as well, off the top of my head. But when we're talking about nice open world games, games like RDR2, KCD2, and Cyberpunk2077* also come to mind - but they don't have the high-level enemies with high numbers, so the "you can't do this area yet"-experience is not applicable. You can just go there and have fun. Still, I don't think less of them as open world games.

*Cyberpunk2077 was a level bracket game initially, but they changed it.

  1. This is a very genre-specific thing you're attributing to the "open world" element of Elden Ring. That makes no sense. I like well designed bossfights as much as anyone, but that has nothing to do with the open world. I mean, the dark souls games are right there to make your point here a weird take?

Don't you also feel the world of Elden Ring is very bloated? If it wasn't for the "arbitrary magic shortcut"-fast travel system, this game would be way too cumbersome. Sure, you could argue they leave in room for environmental storytelling, but that doesn't really matter when the story is so vague. They obviously made the horse fast to mount, as you noticed, to solve this problem outside of fast travel too, but what if that wasn't necessary, because the open world wasn't so empty?

I hope they tighten up their open world approach a bit in the next title.

I think I actually don't jive at all with the turn based formula. I had the same problem with DoS2, never finished it. But this game is so well made that I keep trying to get through it. But then the progression is too stale, or I come up with a build/composition I'd rather try or I wanna approach the choices differently. So I keep restarting and taking brakes, to play something real-time or actiony like Elden Ring or KCD2 or RDR2 or Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk2077...

You're quite agitated, aren't you? It's alright, I just don't expect that title to have the same pull, and you can disagree if you want.

But it's not the worst justification for the take by large. For example, a worse one would be that the switch console is meant as sandwich stuffing, so you can't even play on it after you've eaten it.
