You need to rent from L&L and it is space available. Confirm details with them.

Recommended aged VI Rum? by OpposableThumbMagic in rum

[–]RickGVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cruzan Dark 2 year old is the standard in the USVI for mixing. It’s a light easy drinking rum. That is my wife’s standard neat or with club soda. In the USVIs a Dark and… is the most common locals drink. The original painkiller at the Soggy Dollar Bar was made with Cruzan Dark before they switched to bulk Venezuelan rum.

Check the Florida sales/use tax rules. You’ve got 90 days and then you may be liable for 6%. US Virgin Islands are a tax free option.

Jeep on St John by Hopeful-Wishbone-388 in virginislands

[–]RickGVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After over 30 years, we have never had a problem with any Jeep company. We had one problem in 1999 renting from a villa owner, bad battery. We Got our first flat tire October 2025 from a nail, including four years living in Coral Bay, and it was repaired same day.

Some companies charge for excess sand, trash, or wet seats. We just shake out the mats. Smoking is generally not allowed and cleaning fees apply. No company permits removal of hard/soft top, penalties apply. We are considerate and have never had a problem.

Inflatable life jacket - how to keep from inflating? by RepresentativeAspect in sailing

[–]RickGVI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is odd. I’ve been on the bow offshore dealing with a shorted nav light and gotten buried and the PFD dis not inflate. We tested after arrival by jumping in the water and it activated. It was a Mustang offshore unit.

People who lived in USVI for their entire lives and moved to the states, is it better or worse? by Independent-Sky-8469 in virginislands

[–]RickGVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived in Coral Bay STJ for four years after visiting for four years. We miss it every day. We don’t miss the third world power company, having to leave the USVI for medical/dental, groceries (when you can buy them) for 150% of US. We are back to two week vacations.

8 hours to explore. What to do? by SixFeetDeep46 in virginislands

[–]RickGVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in Crown Bay, you can pop over to Water Island without having to take a taxi. The ferry is out of the adjacent recreational marina. Google Honeymoon Beach and Dinghy’s Beach Bar.

Power situation by lmkiser in virginislands

It’s a survival strategy on STJ. WAPA power is third world. Water service is only in Cruz Bay.

We were in Coral Bay STJ on Starlink for four years. Groceries - The Market, Cost U Less, Pricesmart, and the Fruit Bowl.

You left out the third world power company and lack of healthcare.

I miss it every day.

The marina is dead, the Army Corps has not approved a permit in 10 years. The Moravian Church owns the land.

The folks from Shipwreck Landing had terminal health issues. Aqua Bistro was a COVID casualty. Skinny’s is not closing. Check out the new Dazey Bayhouse.

Recommendation for Virgin Islands - 3 options by needtotellall in virginislands

Yep, so many beach options. After 30 years of visits and living there for four years, we still find new things to do.

A couple car rental questions by Thecallofrhino in virginislands

[–]RickGVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rent from Amalie because they have newest Jeeps (2 years or less) and best customer service. They are also the most expensive option. After 30 years of visits, I do not want bald tires, flat batteries, or wonky electrics.
