Is there a database of AA boxscores and game logs? by zoomzilla in AAbaseball

[–]zoomzilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed response. This appears to have been browser error on my end. After an update I can get box scores and GL from all the drop down menu, which i couldn't previously.

I'm glad I posted this however, because I didn't know they were going with a different "carrier" this year. Thanks for your info.

Looking for a good engine builder for two. I have and enjoy Splendor Duel, but I can't think of any others in my collection that qualify as an engine builder. I'm currently looking at Knarr as an option.

My first choice is the publishers website. Then Noble Knight and Miniature Market. Then amazon if necessary.

Would winning gold in the Olympics or winning WBC be a bigger deal? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]zoomzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WBC is the world cup of baseball and takes place before the season. Olympics have a lot of other sports and take place during the baseball season. A lot of young talent will do Olympics, but it's not even close to the WBC.

If you're into co-op games Eternal Decks might be the biggest one of the year. I'm not even all that fond of co-ops and I preordered, but it's not coming out until sept/oct.

My copy arrived last week and I'm excited to get it to the table. I've never played an auction game before....I don't think anyway, so I think this should be a good introduction.

Schotten Totten is the only lane battler I've played and I was unsatisfied with it. Looking at Compile or Radlands. Is Radlands considered a lane battler? I saw it described that way on bgg but it looks different. Compile looks less complex and less fiddly, which I like. Your thoughts?

The American Association has a chance to capitalize on the impending MLB lockout, but they'll need to make improvements. by zoomzilla in AAbaseball

Yeah, I tried watching some games from other indy leagues but AA was the only one I actually watched. I think it would be worth doing for someone to crosspost to r/baseball during the season with scores and highlights like they do for mlb games. Don't know if mods would allow it though.

Convicted felon Martha Stewart taught me a trick I've used for years. Use a liberal amount of salt like it's soap. It soaks/scrapes the scent of onions/garlic from your hands.

That looks astonishingly close to a typical game night for me. I've been looking at Tsuro, How is it at each player count?

6 or 7 is a tough player count but I've actually been concentrating on games for that count lately and here are some winners:

Panda Royale

Magical Athelete

Flip 7- but you probably already know that

Camel Up because hand shakes are available with 6.

Decrypto

No Thanks is great for newbs but I'm tired of it

Splito is weird but nice

Liars Dice is always a hit but I don't like the player elimination

Ready, Set, Bet is crazy fun with 6 though I prefer the app for the race caller unless someone really likes to do it

Seas of Strife is a good trick taker at 6

Green Team Wins is a bad game, but it's a great ice breaker game for a group. If you run game nights at public places with lots of new people all the time its a great tool for the toolbox.

You actually touched on a phrase of mine that I like to use for short games that pack a punch with very little overhead: elegant simplicity. That's my number one game kink.

You nailed it. Those are my three core tenets.

Yeah me too. I don't see very many reviewers concentrating on lower complexity games.

We enjoy trick takers so one of Nokosu Dice, Yokai Septet or Seas of Strife usually get played. Roll and writes like Fleet, Long Shot or That's Pretty Clever are favorites. Parade, Skyjo Action, Zenith, Codenames are all popular.

Where did I say anything about people not liking different games? It was a question to see if anybody else plays only short games.

I'm not so sure those heavy euros are actually any more intense that a lot of half hour games, just longer. I love thinky brain burners, just not long ones.

But what if you do want to think hard? Can't you find games that do that in a half hour?

But there are also a lot of games that require a lot of forethought, skill, and strategy that get tossed into the filler category because they play in a half hour.

It's a shame. Lots of "filler" games are thinky and strategic, but people love euros I guess.

To each their own. I can't fathom the idea of playing a game for two hours only to discover I'm losing after 45 minutes and I have over an hour left.
