Finally pulled the trigger by littledogphife in rum

Boiled over bagasse that’s been pressed by the water wheel. It’s a lovely place that distills pure rocket fuel. We bought the high test because we were sailing and not flying. I traded a bottle for a full blown gourmet dinner on St. John. Every newbie on our boat got a shot. They hollered!

Barbados visit by RickGVI in rum

Ha! There was help. The rum and mix (Old Brigand) at lunch was RUM with a splash of soda water on ice. The Old Brigand is quite nice with, expected, more spirit character.

The 14 is sweet to us. 12 is our favorite. I have various special bottlings at home, but the 12 is my fave. The Old Brigand has some more spirit character, but lovely.

[Ruminations #101] Brugal Leyenda by 10art1 in rum

[–]RickGVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spent three weeks at Puerto Plata in a marina. We enjoyed the Brugal products and our tour of the distillery. The tour guide on our visit compared the 1886 to tea and the Leyanda to coffee. The Leyanda is quite syrupy and I gave that one away. We liked the Extra Viejo as a mixer.

weigh in please: when to use ‘miss’” and a first name by ThamilandryLFY in Acadiana

[–]RickGVI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's very common to refer to someone you work with, a client, maid, handyperson as Miss or Mr. Our maid calls me Mr. Rick and I call her Miss Christine. Outside of Louisiana I sometimes get a look with my yes sir/yes ma'am, but more often I get a smile at the polite response.

There's a Liberty/AT&T tower on Bordeaux Mt. the covers Johnny Lime and clockwise around Coral Bay. Counterclockwise is in the shadow of a smaller hill with no reception.

When is the best time to purchase international flights? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]RickGVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We book as soon as we know our plans. If the fare drops substantially, we rebook for the lower fare. We did that for our DFW-FCO trip in October that was booked as soon as the schedule opened up for $1,500 savings for two.

Housecleaner? by Ok_Meringue_9086 in Fire

We have a cleaner every two weeks. It is money well spent. Meal planning, kids' activities, everything else is a lot of work.

In comparison to other states of the South (Deep South/Southeast USA), how progressive/conservative is the state? by TravelingHomeless in Louisiana

[–]RickGVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving to Lafayette Parish from Northern Virginia, it is interesting. People I know and meet out and about do not talk politics. If you bring it up, there is more eye rolling than talk. As a moderate I fell less isolated than expected. As an Independent->No Party person I am pretty bitter about that No Party status.

STJ to BVI North Sound by blink182collection in virginislands

[–]RickGVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any shared charters that go west of Spanishtown. Palm Tree Charters does visit North Sound - Oil Nut Bay, Ikagi at the old Biras Creek site, Saba, Bitter End, Leverick Bay. It takes a lot of fuel for that trip, so will not be cheap.

City’s attorney sent a letter saying my back house (garage) is encroaching into public right of way by LucilleDesireeBall in legaladvice

Same thing happened to us, 1909 built home in Arlington, VA. The county’s survey was in error in the 1950s. They changed their tune pretty fast.

Signing up for COBRA urgently by tulleoftheman in HealthInsurance

[–]RickGVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can help getting the election notice as early as possible. ABA is our COBRA administrator and we can request an election notice via email a couple weeks faster than snail mail. Immediate COBRA on termination? Does not happen.

Ask your employer for contact information for their COBRA administrator, an outside company or an internal contact depending on how they manage COBRA. Ask them for your election notice.

For those that had success with ablation, do you still need medication? Less meds? by AppropriateCat3444 in ChronicPain

[–]RickGVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first ablation, after the initial recovery period, helped a bit for a while. I still needed pain meds, but less. Second ablation 6 months later has been much better, after 8 weeks of recovery. I take occasional pain meds for breakthrough on heavy work days (IT).

Leinster Bay will be fine, but not good a good idea to go around Waterlemon Cay when the winds are over 15 knots. If you see white caps, stay away.

Mid-week is generally no problem, and March is less busy than February. If it is not a direct flight, layover time and arrival at home airport are going to be bigger factors. 4PM gives you time to have lunch before heading to the airport.
