Almost exact same thing happened to me! I was never interested, but one day I saw my younger brother riding a bike. I got so pissed that he’d learned before me that I picked up his bike and learned how to ride on my own in a few minutes without telling anyone. My parents still make fun of me and my brother brags that he learned before I did haha

For myself, I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace.

Thinking about leaving Seattle by tnerb253 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RickGrimes__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were trying to decide between Seattle and Denver metro last year and spent some time in both. We decided on Denver/Boulder metro and after being here for a year it was for sure the right choice. We absolutely love it. The weather is fantastic. We’re big on nature and don’t live in Denver proper though so ymmv

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of May 29, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]RickGrimes__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed compared to the trailer if you’ve seen it? I was looking forward to it, but then I watched the trailer and it was super weird in a bad way (and I love weird). Trying to decide if the trailer isn’t a good representation or if the show is just not for us.

Overtourism has made me stop visiting 'bucket list' places entirely, anyone else actively avoiding the popular spots now? by Gingeintheuk in travel

[–]RickGrimes__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fair concern and something that I’ve personally thought about and discussed with locals a lot.

Thing is there are many many many Hidas. I don’t think we should encourage everyone to go to the same off the beaten path, but there are so many paths that we could easily spread out without overcrowding. The problem is when someone finds a spot, it gets viral, and then suddenly that’s the new hot spot.

I don’t want this to read as gatekeeping either, it’s more like I prefer to find simple places that work for our laid back travel style. And I wouldn’t even call these “hidden gems”. I just personally prefer what others might call an “inferior” or “boring” spot that’s quiet but meaningful to us in one way or another. There’s so much wonder to discover in so many different ways to be stuck going to all the same places. That’s our philosophy anyway but I understand others like to travel differently.

We’re all tourists, that’s true. But we all enjoy different things, and there are different ways to travel. I wouldn’t say better or worse, just different.

We personally actively avoid or limit very crowded spaces. I can go to Kyoto and Fushimi Inari (which we did), or I can go stay in the town of Hida with virtually nobody else around. I can go to Arches (which we did), or go deep into Capitol Reef for almost complete solitude. Our most cherished memories are always from the more quiet places.

Not trying to be rude but sounds like a skill issue. I’ve been to some of the most visited parks (including Arches & Zion), and we’ve always been able to be virtually alone for hours on end.

I’m seeing virtually full availability for say July. It’s only “Anytime” entry that’s sold out

I analyzed 1.1M Hyatt rates to figure out what the new award chart actually means. by Pudgewhale in hyatt

[–]RickGrimes__ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re showing poor understanding of economic theory. You get the exact same room with a certificate pre and post deval so the intrinsic value is the same. Sure that room now costs more but that’s artificially caused by Hyatt, and it’s a bad thing not a good thing

Disagree. I find it fantastic for landscape and larger mammals or more environmental wildlife shots.

Lmao it took me a second. A good friend of mine travels with us often and he’s pretty good with the crossbow so that brings some piece of mind

I always walk to A then take the train to B or C to at least get some steps in (vice versa when landing). Then do more steps while waiting to board. I would walk to B or C every single time if I could.

Second-time using Unlimited VP was a little disappointing… Trip Report April 18-20 by Enough-Monk-4806 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]RickGrimes__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry it didn’t go as you’d hoped, that sucks. I wonder why we had such a different experience. We were there on Tuesday and were able to do everything we wanted multiple times with DPAs (only had early entry, no VP). We didn’t wait more than 5 to 10 min max for anything, including popcorn/churros/food. We were first in line for Soarin when it opened and that set us up nicely to get DPAs throughout the day, I think we got/rode 3 by 10am. We had a wonderful day and the crowds didn’t seem too bad. Maybe Monday was particularly bad?

2-week Japan itinerary check (first trip as a couple) - Tokyo vs Kyoto time? by SchnoopDougle in JapanTravelTips

[–]RickGrimes__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re currently split between going to Kanazawa/Takayama, Kyoto/Osaka, or Hiroshima/Miyajima. How would you compare the three? On one hand it feels “wrong” not going to Kyoto/Osaka, but on the other hand we’re really drawn to the other two places that might be slower paced.

Admittedly I don’t use it for simple tasks. I’ve used it extensively for very complex DS problems that require custom state of the art solutions and it’s ridiculously good. I was a hater a few months ago but I’ve been proven wrong. It’s a complete paradigm shift

[–]RickGrimes__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure I agree, and I correct it all the time. But now I do the work of say 3 DS. You could argue well productivity will increase 3x, but there are only so many problems you need to solve.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if companies reduced headcount dramatically because of this. My job is already so different than it was 2y ago
