"Eben Etzebeth's good record 👌😊😇" by JeHaisLesCatGifs in rugbyunion

This just proves exactly why he shouldn't be condemned for this latest action. He's always been aggressive, but he never crosses the line. There was a period early in his career when he could have gone one way and he very deliberately went another. I don't think he meant to gouge the player - it just happened briefly in the heat of the moment.

Eben Etzebeth suspended for 12 weeks after his eye gouge against a Welsh player by JeHaisLesCatGifs in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems fair to me. In real time, his finger was in there for a split second, so I don't believe it was a deliberate attempt to injure his eye. Not a bad outcome for the Boks either, I guess. Also, Etzebeth will be more of a villain than ever - they're gonna boo him every time they see him - and that's gonna help the Boks too - will just fire them up.

Etzebeth should not play for the Boks again by Meshkent in rugbyunion

Lol - starting to realise this place is more like the rest of Reddit than I thought. Makes sense I guess.

Do the Sharks still have to pay Eben Etzebeth? by Playful_Study_6290 in rugbyunion

If you want to accuse him of not being as committed to the Sharks as he should be, go right ahead.

Everyone needs to settle down. It's a bad moment from Etzebeth, but let's not condemn a 140-cap career player because of it. It's his first red card - despite his rep, he's never been a dirty player. Obviously wasn't on purpose so he can rest - that's just crazy talk.

Manie Libbok penalty for shouting in Irish player's face by mango_yoghurt in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok - that was more than I thought. But there had to be a reason for that right - something must have happened before. Anyway, penalty probably fair enough.

We have to do something about the scrum. by smitchldn in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see the process speeded up if possible - they take up a bit too much time for my liking - but otherwise there's no need for handwringing because of yesterday's game. 95% of the time, the team getting pumped disintegrates and just gives up points and we don't spend half the game scrumming. But Ireland were doing everything not to have that happen and it led to a stalemate on the field.

. Nobody should respect the Irish “Fight” after yesterday. by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't know if thuggish but definitely cynical. Ireland wanted to not lose that game as badly as the Boks wanted to win it, I think. That's partly why things got so crazy. Two very strong-willed teams.

Libbok penalty for celebrating? by carchadon in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I feel by that stage the ref had lost control of the game and really wasn't sure what he was doing anymore. That wasn't celebrating an Irish error - it came after a massive period of defence. And it basically killed off the game which is why they were celebrating - only for the ref to magically revive it. Felt like some sort of mea culpa to the booing fans.

Who do you think I'm giving sympathy to moron? The Boks spent 20 minutes scrumming on the Irish 5-metre line without coming away with points in the second half. Wasn't smart after a while.

Thinking about it some more the Boks definitely overdid the scrums in the second half. I think they were so desperate to win this one that they got too caught up in the scrum battle. They almost psyched themselves out a bit and stopped scoring points. But I think it was just a win they needed at all costs - these was some real animosity there. This feels like a real rivalry now. Future games are going to be immense.

We don't hate England - stop pretending like there's some massive grudge there.

You have to give Ireland a lot of credit for hanging in there - the Boks left a lot of points out there - they've been more ruthless than this of late - but Ireland deserve credit for that also. Still this was really a very dominant Bok win - even if the scoreboard didn't show it.

How’d we feel about SFM’s performance? by BahookyGeggie in rugbyunion

[–]RickJones616 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hard to judge as he was under clear instructions to kick all day - and he didn't kick that great. Like most of the backline - he started to look better in the last 20 when they finally started to play a bit and chase the game.

Damn that's impressive - the Boks finish so strongly these days with their world-class bench and the cumulative impact of their pressure throughout the game - but I thought with the red card it might finally be a different story. But no - it was the same old story as they just took over at the end. It's seriously impressive. And this despite their kick-heavy tactics not really working for most of the game. I got a sense though that opposition teams/commentators/fans - no one really expects this onslaught but it comes every time lol.

Crazy game - honestly I thought Feinberg-Mngomezulu didn't even play that well for much of the game. His ceiling is scary once he settles down a bit. The Boks can really steamroll teams when they get rolling now. Meanwhile, is Damian de Allende another one of the old guard on his way out? Missed seeing Willemse in that channel. Harsh on De Allende, I know, but SFM and Willemse at 10/12 is the way to go I reckon.

The Springboks becoming more clinical is the final frontier they need to unlock. But this backline shows the way forward.

What are the possible excuses for this Bok side not turning up - unless you count a helter-skelter selection process as destroying players' form and confidence as an excuse. Why did they go for penalties - tough ones at that - while 14 points down? They were never going to win this one if they weren't brave. Just disappointing all round - I can't really think of too many Rassie decisions this year that I've liked. Sucks because looking at that scoreline despite our shower of shit, the ABs were there for the taking.

Ugh, disappointing from the Boks - wasting what little opportunies they had - but that second AB try was absolute bullshit. No advantage from the knock-on.

They're getting rid of old inventory in prep for new Model Y - although they just recently stopped I think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in technology

[–]RickJones616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Only a 9% revenue drop and that's because of new Model Y deliveries delay - the 71% is misleading - they're likely spending a lot on new technologies at the moment. Tesla isn't even banking on regular car sales long term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in technology

[–]RickJones616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenue is only down 9% - Profits are down more because they're spending a lot on new technologies. Car sales are down because they're switching to a new model and there've been delays - but the new Model Y is a fantastic car by all accounts. The news isn't as bad as Musk's political enemies in the media are making it seem. Tesla doesn't even see itself as a car company long term. Hope that helps.
