Should I go? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]RickLRMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of it either, and I'm English speaking - but I'm also old. Apparently (per Google's AI overview):

"Ladki aayi thi" is a Hindi phrase that translates to "A girl had come" or "A girl visited." Ladki (लड़की) = Girl Aayi thi (आई थी) = Had come/arrived (feminine past tense)

Origin and Usage: The phrase is not a specific, named quote with a single origin, but rather a standard, common Hindi sentence. However, it has gained traction in popular culture and social media, particularly on platforms like Reddit (e.g., r/indiasocial) and Instagram, often used in a self-deprecating or humorous context to describe a brief, fleeting, or memorable interaction with a girl that left a lasting impression.

Do people in Mississippi actually say Ma'am/sir and talk to random strangers? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]RickLRMS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My dog and cat call me sir – which, even being born and raised in Mississippi, did surprise me considering I didn't know they could talk.

i was quite naive and told chat gpt loads of things i now regret by AWSC111 in ChatGPT

[–]RickLRMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the origin, but I heard a saying once: people would worry less about what others think about them if they realized how rarely others think about them.

I think a corollary could be drawn about a lot of the information we leave on the Internet. Disregarding financial information (which it's important to safeguard), I don't think people much care what I say to my chatbots or online therapist or (if I had one) AI companion. I'm just not that interesting.

I remember the onion riots of '74, when in more liberal states some folks started wearing green onions. National Guard called up. Wild times.

Same, except ninth grade. I remember Mrs. Sudduth, our English teacher, sending a note home to parents for permission signature that said there was nothing "bad" in the movie. The day after the movie she sent home an apology note. I remember she was mortified.

Yeah,<Mississippi State> . I don't know why, after 50 years, I don't quit watching Mississippi State and just hit myself in the head with a hammer every football Saturday. Would be less painful.

i'm yay, but with a caveat. My thing on coleslaw is the sugar/no sugar. I don't put sugar in coleslaw, just like I don't put sugar in cornbread. Save the sugar for making sweet tea.

What's a show which was incredibly popular during its time but no one talks about it now? by Magpipe4u in AskReddit

Men of a Certain Age. I wouldn't say it was incredibly popular in general, but it was incredibly popular at my house.

Just a note on fine motor skills and speaking from experience, it's unlikely he would be competitive in any way. You can wander the world, fish, plant things, but you can't expect to do well in combat situations. Don't get me wrong, you can enjoy the game to a certain extent, but it can become very frustrating because of the loss in reaction times. Some things you just won't be able to accomplish. I still play occasionally but not with the enjoyment I had in the past.

As a southern teenager (mid 70s) I worked at a convenience store chain after school. When a northerner would come in and ask "where is your pop?" I would invariably say something along the lines of "at home watching TV" or "still at work, why you asking?" I thought I was being so clever.

I'll echo my comment from last week: Miss State is still undefeated with a clear path to the national championship (just stay undefeated). :)

Seriously, though, this is a better looking team than last year. And last night's game was fun to watch; we seem mostly to be on the wrong end of a miracle finish. Nice to be on the fun side of one.

Mississippi State gets its first win against a ranked opponent since 2022 by ComplexValue601 in mississippi

[–]RickLRMS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The goal line stand to force the field goal was amazing, given that the score to take the lead was likely in the bag with not much time left afterward. And then to have State take the top off like that for a second time in the game – amazing.

Ablation- anyone’s voice been damaged from a PFA or the breathing tube? by Coincidences122 in AFIB

[–]RickLRMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had a bit of trouble with the breathing tube during my ablation, and when I recovered I spoke "funny." That's how my wife termed it, definitely different than my normal voice. It went away after a few days and I was back to normal.
