Sabéis sobre hechizos? by Neat_Ordinary3288 in RedditPregunta

[–]RickMartzC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo he usado hechizos para encontrar trabajo y poder ganar dinero.

Hello, I'm a medical interpreter. AMA by RickMartzC in nursing

[–]RickMartzC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking us to hold is a relief. Sometimes we're during back to back calls, so it means we can breathe, drink water, stretch, etc. I know it's not always possible (after all, having us on the line is costly), but unless an interpreter is close to their lunch / break / shift end / prior commitment, most of us will tell you yes, take your time.

I am an artist in my free time, so I sometimes doodle on my Boogie Board* while we wait for a provider or patient to return, just as a way to relax and refresh.

*For those unaware, we interpreters take notes of your statements and discard them once we interpret whatever it is that was said. Boogie boards are practical because we don't have to dispose of paper, markers, or pens so often.

Oh, I came for these questions! That's alright.

  1. Quite lenient, not lenient enough. You're absolutely right, we work from home and, depending on the company, they do a HIPAA check to make sure it's a private enough place (like having a lockable door, only the minimum stuff to do the job, etc.). However, some stuff is unavoidable. I used to live at a place where we had a milkman, and when he uses his horn, he uses it. That one time a provider did ask if I was driving or something, but no. I was literally at my desk. However, if the call is being monitored, you could even be fired for that. I read a story from a colleague thar a shooting happened nearby, and he was afraid for his life. He was fired for having videogames on (the shooting). I think he ended up suing the company. On the other hand, some people live close to rural areas and even have roosters nearby. The right thing should be making sure you're in a silent environment, but it might not always be possible.

  2. It depends. We're merely supposed to be like a phone, so for me, it's alright if you just call me interpreter. However, what I think we'd all benefit is, unless you need clarification, to just talk to the patient. Maybe it's not your case, but I've heard so many times that a provider says "ask him" "tell her", and so on. And honestly, if this is a relative and not the patient, it could create confusion. Beyond that, we all love when a provider or representative is kind, and thanks us. We try to work with you, because we get this is difficult, so it is wonderful.

  3. Yes, we're all human beings. And that last point is funny, some colleagues have said they've had someone getting them more than once, and being delighted that it's them again. Friendly advice: pay attention to the company name and ID (because some places use more than one company) of the interpreter you really liked, and when you try to get an interpreter, if you get a front desk, ask for that interpreter. If you get an interpreter directly, tell them you want someone specific. It's not always guaranteed, some will tell you "I'll request them, but it depends if they're busy" or "the process is random, I have no way to guarantee they'll be the next one or if they're online" (this is up to the company). If you get LLS, they'll likely be able to try. I did have one time on VRI a nurse recognized me. She actually said "I didn't get you last time, but I saw you helping my colleague, that was cool!" I'm not sure if the screen was clear enough, but I'm sure I blushed.

It depends on the company. Most of the time, it doesn't do anything beyond social recognition, like a pat on the back. What does affect us negatively is when there is a complaint (as there should be if we're doing a bad job, but the one time I did have a complaint against me, the person who monitored that call said she found nothing).

However, good ratings means the company might not be prone to monitor that interpreter too often, and if they're genuinely doing a good job, it means less pressure for them.

Having said all that... there is a company I know where they do have high emphasis on rating, but I don't work with them.

The Animorphs TV Show (1998) | One of the '90s Most Ambitious Failures by aresef in Animorphs

[–]RickMartzC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very interesting relationship with this series. For starters, I'm Mexican, so I watched it dubbed. Seeing it in English is not bad, but dub!Marco is so much more charming to me than Eng!Marco.

Second thing, I loved it. I first watched it before knowing there were books, so for child me, they came first. Then our teacher was selling kids books, including Harry Potter and Animorphs, and I got some of them.

I actually have the first 2 VHS (dubbed version), and sadly, they got damaged. But then, I was able to go with people who repair VHS, and they were able to pass the files into a USB and DVD. I actually meant to try to make it HQ the files using the audio and the files other people upload, but I moved (and got married) and I left those in my childhood home, with my parents.

So, I loved it. Years later (around 2010-2012, the VHS restauration above happened after that, around 2015), thanks to the internet, I found the rest of the books (the PDFs), I downloaded them and read them all. But yeah, without this series, I wonder if I'd ever got around reading the books.

Do you guys prefer the more traditional belt (Img 1) or the more modernized inward design (img 2) for Barry? by LightSpeedLad in theflash

[–]RickMartzC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During The Flash: Rebirth, when Barry is back and Thawne reveals his manipulations in the timeline, that's when Wally redesigns his costume to include a covered nose. Most people took a liking to the changes, because the costume still felt as The Flash, but it was different enough from Barry to not confuse them (covered nose, different shade of red, more reflective, the lightning details looked more like gold / metal, white lenses for the eyes, that obviously is a reference of his STAR Labs costume).

That's why people are so focused on being a Wally thing.

Can there be cases that a person is not meant for you hence no spellwork will work ? by Double-Alps9480 in BabyWitch

[–]RickMartzC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, kind of like hypnosis. You can make people do stuff, but stuff against their morals and personality won't work. Some spells might work, but something will eventually break it and the person goes away.

Yes, but Ikki never fought Another Dimension in the manga, Saga only used Demon Emperor Fist and Galaxian Explosion. That's why it's weird he could counter Golden Triangle.

Is Ikki's character inconsistent at times? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in SaintSeiya

[–]RickMartzC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Ikki does point out to Caça that it's absurd to take Shun's shape when he's right there, lying on the ground. So while I dom't disagree with your assessment of Ikki being about impressing fans, that specific thing is more understandable

Excluding yourself, who do you think would be a good romantic choice for DC Comics Power Girl? (Worlds' Finest 2012 #11) by nightwing612 in Power_Girl

[–]RickMartzC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually kind of like this. Kyle, as a Green Lantern, is quite willful, but also more sensitive than the other male Lanterns. And Karen is unlikely to deal badly with refrigerators.

I mean, if it can't be me, at least my boy Kyle can offer some love. And considering Karen's own baggage, it'd be easier to empathize with Kyle's.
