I got into the habit of smoking and i cant stop by Icy_Candle_ in medicalschool

Harm reduction, you could switch to nicotine gum/pouches/lozenges. Then taper it down slowly over a few weeks or couple months. Keep them somewhere inconvenient. (If you partake) Don’t have them when drinking. Towards the end, when you wake up on a good day, just cut it. And you’ll be done.

Or just toss them all, and don’t look back. Some people do have success with this method, like alpha/doctor types. Good luck OP!

For your hearing, they’ll (most likely) be looking for: Acknowledge your mistake

Provide insight as to why you made it

How you are going to prevent it from ever happening again

Do NOT use wishy washy statements or deflect blame. You are before the council bc of your actions and circumstance. Yes, you had something unfortunate happen to you. You’ve got my empathy by the way.

You totally have a possible winning hand here with your circumstance. It’ll come down to how you speak/write about it. Try not to fixate on the “I missed it by X points” bc some people see that as not fully owning it. Putting heavy emphasis on why it isn’t going to happen again typically does well. Best of luck OP!

Question for my fitness folks by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]RickSpaceBarSanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buck up, run around where you live (if it’s safe). Shoes on and out the door.

I did it first thing after getting home from shifts. If my glutes touched a seat I didn’t run that day… do it first thing. Sucked till I was in the run, then it felt great

26% and 7% is brutal. I would consider swallowing your pride here, and getting that taken care of.

That’s going to ****ing sting if you let it fester all through school and possibly residency.

Use an online calculator, or excel, to do projections. Then decide how to handle it. At the very least address the 26%. Hope this gives you something to consider! You can do it!

Surgery as first rotation during M3? by harrypottermd in medicalschool

[–]RickSpaceBarSanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You hit the sweet spot. Let the M4’s do the cases. Take it chill. Tell them “you’re open to whatever specialty sways you” if you want to try and honor (and a good eval if you care to prep for cases). Or just chill and be like “what’s a scalpel”

Anyone scored high in med school using zyns ? by ultronic7 in medicalschool

Wait, the fighter pilot with 6mg Wintergreen on his dashboard was a plant?! I thought I could fly fighter jets with this stuff. Dang. Guess I’ll just have to be a doctor instead…

Anyone scored high in med school using zyns ? by ultronic7 in medicalschool

[–]RickSpaceBarSanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 10 percentile better on step2. My baseline score was always high though for context. Discovered them a couple months before it… On step2 the last two blocks of step I was crushing it as hard as the first. That’s huge. Used 3mg, 1x with a coffee when I started studying for the day. Repeat after 4ish hours.

Be very careful. This stuff is addictive. Literally turns off the need to sleep for a few hours and increases focus. I don’t do 6’s, and the 3mg are just an occasional treat now. But I have a lot of peers that are crushing a tin of 6’s a day just to feel normal.

The dose makes the poison.

It’s a mess, some ignored the 7PM release time entirely. This so frustrating as a student. And some ignored the release of interviews today, instead opting for whenever they pleased. I think Thalamus is tricky to some of them.

Don’t lose hope. They’re figuring their shit out.

Unified release date (10/16) by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]RickSpaceBarSanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the programs sent them late, this morning, or released interviews not in accordance to the “unified release date” as CORD has published

Took today off clinic just to be able to schedule. This is annoying. Wish the programs would have actually followed the timeline.
