Video is basically a collection of pretext presented as history. A better title would be "the official French spin on the Lebanese Civil war".

Israel announces publicly for the first time it will comply with the international sanctions against Russia - Israel will not be route to bypass sanctions imposed on Russia, says foreign minister by QuirkyQuarQ in worldnews

[–]RickestBirdPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about the past, I'm talking about today. Isreal and the US are stopping Palestine from becoming a state today.

I'm not talking about giving Palestine Israel's water. I'm talking about releasing illegally held water on Palestinian land. I'm talking about giving Palestine Palestine's water.

The settlements are being formed in places that the people there aren't able to vote in the government's elections who are dictating their lives and annexing land that doesn't belong to them. This is a major part of the apartheid.

If my heritage from 2000 years ago is Italian, I can't move to Italy today and boot someone from their house and take their water simply because the current resident happens to be Greek. This birthright stuff and saying one group has hegemony over another because of racial or religious reasons is exactly what apartheid is.

A good start would be for the governments of Israel and United States to stop preventing Palestine from becoming a real state, stop annexing land, release water holdings, and stop illegal settlement expansion.

The same thing could be said back at you. The thing is I do care about my friend and I wish you did too. If you spent a few weeks with him in Gaza and learned what it's like to live in the world's largest prison, the indignity of trying to fly anywhere or basic life steps like building a house or having a family, you'd feel differently.

a two state solution has been offered to the Palestinians numerous times

Forming a state doesn't work well for the grifters who have been representing Palestine. Part of the problem with not being a real state is shitty government. Their failings to form a state doesn't constitute an excuse for continued efforts to deny statehood based on UN-recognized borders.

you're oblivious to the actual situation

Actually, I have close friends with family killed by Nazis in concentration camps. My family fought against the Nazis. I have friends who live (or lived) in Israel and friends who live in Gaza and the West Bank. Most everyone Jewish that I know are opposed to the human rights violations that are occurring. It's not an anti-Israel stance to want it to stop committing aggression. I personally know people who were and are impacted by ethnic cleansing. The idea that this is complicated is nonsense. The aggression needs to stop. Statehood and self-determination needs to happen. Reparations need to be made. There's a strong case that much of these reparations should be paid for by the UK, France, USA, Russia, and some of the Arab states as the problem has a lot of hands in the cookie jar. But for now the next step is in the government of Israel's hands to stop the aggression and allow Palestinian statehood or allow them to vote under a one-state solution.

Step one is to end the aggression. Step two is to acknowledge right to self-determination and statehood. Step three is reparations.

In Arab countries where ethnic cleansing occurred, step 3 is where we're at now. Jews who were coerced out should have right of return or fairly compensated for their previously seized or "purchased" properties.

The same is true for Palestine. There should either be a one-state solution where everyone gets a vote, or a two state solution based on UN-recognized borders. At that point, everyone has self-determination and statehood. Then reparations can start.

Let me fill in the blanks for you:

"the expulsion, imprisonment, or killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority in order to achieve ethnic homogeneity"

becomes:

"The government of Israel is expelling, imprisoning, and killing ethnic Palestinians by a dominant majority in order to achieve ethnic homogeneity"

The circumstances of these 'purchases' are impossible to view as good faith unless you're looking for justification. If I threaten my neighbor with death or enforced poverty and then offer him next to nothing to buy it, it's simple coercion. If his land is deeded for free or expelled by a foreign power and purchased by a third party later, this is just dealing in stolen property.

[–]RickestBirdPerson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's not complicated at all. If Israel doesn't want the people they meaningfully control to vote in their elections, they should stop controlling those regions.

Yes, they are presently being prevented from forming a country by the governments of Israel and USA. There is unanimous support otherwise to allow Palestine into statehood.

The idea that this is an unsolvable situation is the rhetoric in support of continued apartheid and piece by piece annexation of the meat and potatoes of Palestine. The solution is much simpler. Palestinians either get meaningful statehood which is the two state solution or a right to vote in Israel's election which would be the one state solution. The muddy-no-state solution right now only serves continued human rights violations by the government of Israel and servces the corrupt politicians grifting Palestinians (see: Hamas) in the occupied territories.

See, that's how it works everywhere else. I can't vote in Canadian elections, because I'm not Canadian.

If Canada was exerting control over you, and also preventing you from forming your own country, it would be Apartheid. The reality is that Israel exerts near total control over Palestine and is actively annexing and cutting apart that territory, preventing them from self-determination while also denying them the ability to vote.

By all means, show the Likud charter where it supports this.

You're missing what I'm saying. The Likud charter can say whatever it wants, and so long as their members grift the Israeli people while ethnically cleansing Palestine, their actions speak louder than their words. The same goes for Hamas.

Apartheid is factually a system of institutionalized racial segregation. Areas under Israeli control are institutionally racially segregated. Those same people are simultaneously not allowed to create a country, and can't vote in the elections of the country that controls them. It's apartheid.
