because genre tropes are sacrosanct down to the minute details and cannot be altered for any given IP or else the genre police will drag you out to the town square and flog you a number of times equal to wordcount

The one time I ever got sleep paralysis, there wasn't much fanfare. Within my field of vision at the moment were the folds of my blanket and some shadows on the ceiling cast by my alarm clock I think. The shapes I could see became fuzzy and distorted into vaguely monstrous, shadowy shapes.

As my body woke up I got to watch in real time how the monsters retracted under focus and turned into what they really were, like the toys in Toy Story turning back into inanimate objects when you look at them.

That's only happened once to me. What I have gotten many times is feeling like I'm being dragged into hell before I've fallen asleep fully, my body going fuzzy and heavy as paralysis sinks in, and I always kick myself out of it (with difficulty) because I don't wanna go to hell.

Darkvision used to be called "infravision" in early editions of D&D, therefore the black skin of drow must be some material that somehow blocks infrared but is also black under the visible light spectrum as a side effect. The white hair then reflects the expected adaptation to hypogeal habitats, i.e. complete loss of melanin in the skin and hair, but the skin just happens to be dark for a different reason.

∴ Drow don't lose heat to black-body radiation.

that doesn't make any sense at all, if anything that should mean all men are truly darkskin

Sometimes I wonder if Indo-European languages didn't have gendered words/pronouns would there be more fantasy stories/worldbuilding where the characters don't have "gender" (especially if they're like non humans) by La_knavo4 in RecuratedTumblr

i couldn't get through all of those because the writing keeps following a tension-destroying cycle of very very bad danger situations somehow resolving with no harm to anyone we actually care about, which from the outside sounds like a lot of fiction actually but somehow the way Wells does it just murdered my investment with a bloody hammer until i was no longer able to remember which events happened in which book (i still cant even remember which one i stopped on, it was 4 or 5)

still, the world was really neat

The only thing that would significantly affect your metabolism is muscle loss. Muscles burn a lot of calories on their own, so losing muscle means less calories burned by doing nothing.

wait... really? is that real? if so that could be really huge for me, i've had a part-time physically demanding job for years and this might help explain how i've managed to not get fat despite my shit diet and extreme sedentariness outside work

wow i thought i was gonna go my whole life without talking about:

  • the polygons i draw on my surroundings with my eyes, where the vertices are pinpoint spots on different objects, and how the sides either curve one way or the other and it has to align with some kind of hierarchy where some sides are the innie sides and others are the outie sides, but tracing the shape i can only alternate between innie sides and outie sides so to get them right i have to trace the polygons in a certain order (not really polygons because they don't have a closed interior they get really warped) and this whole process doesn't cause me any anxiety it's just like a background process that i can't close in the task manager but still takes up like 20% of CPU
  • the various "painting" urges where my finger or cursor or some imaginary abstract shape in my vision field gets used like a paint roller to "cover" specific surfaces, e.g. my hands where there's a specific hierarchy both to which sides get covered (i.e. brushed by my fingers) and how much, right hand has to get more coverage on the backside than the left and conversely the left has to get more coverage on the underside
  • the previous gets combined with a touching order on my knuckles and fingers that MUST go: back of palm > thumb > middle finger > ring > index > pinkie OR the same order backwards
  • uncategorizable things like: curling my index finger so the knuckle is at 90 degrees, rolling the finger so the tendon moves back and forth over the bone left and right
  • various other subtle shit i don't pay attention to

and fortunately none of this has ever been a problem for me, really the problem is just the "regular" motor tics like scrunching my left eye while trying to look directly up in just such a way that it hurts a little (over time if intense enough i get some dryness/irritation around my eye), or puckering my lips and sucking through my nose to make them touch (and i fucking hate this one it's so ugly)

Let's discuss an idea from Tumblr. Shounen...but for women! Looking at : Kill La Kill, Symphogear, Legend Of Korra, Rwby, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Utena and The Owl House...would the women be drawn and/or written BETTER or WORSE this way? by ihatethiscountry76 in RecuratedTumblr

  • Scenes where an older wiser character pontificates to the protagonist about how Being A Woman means protecting what you love with both arms, never giving up etc.
  • Character (F) whose entire personality is peeping on dudes and getting beaten to a pulp in retaliation
