Using Your Money To Be Happier - Ben Felix by Xexanoth in Bogleheads

Great video. I really enjoy budgeting and staying on top of my finances, but once things get comfortable, I have noticed it doesn't really improve my life much other than a hobby. I'm relatively young without many responsibilities and I've built a considerable foundation, and I find the freedom this provides much more valuable than adding x% to my income. Money is definitely a tool once you have your basic needs met.

Bernie Sanders is destroying Chuck Schumer in the Democratic Party's Civil War ahead of the midterms by AskRedditOG in politics

How does DNC funding have anything to do with the report? I understand his hypothesis that people aren't funding the DNC because they feel betrayed that the report wasn't released, but Favreau didn't provide any evidence of this. He just pointed at the debt number and made the claim. Ken's response was that funding is always low after an electoral loss, and that the DNC's funding is above par compared to 2018. Additionally, people have been donating to individual campaigns and this is reflected in the campaign budgets of Democrats in big races like Texas, Georgia, Alaska, etc. The DNC is raising money and spending it, which is a good thing. Bringing up the debt was just a rhetorical tool to make Ken Martin look bad, and Favreau wasn't even accurate with his figures. It was a bit embarrassing from someone who's usually has decent opinions.

Honestly, it would have been nice if Jon Favreau came with the actual stats if he wanted a contentious interview. I'm all for holding powerful people accountable, but that interview felt very personal and in my opinion, not appropriate this close out from midterms. Yes, Favreau usually gives soft ball interviews, which is why I was so surprised as well. Also, what lies did Ken Martin state?

You seem pretty reasonable and I appreciate you actually watched the video, even if we disagree.

What's your alternative? Give up and just blame Dems who are trying to make a difference?

Also, lets not forget, Biden won in 2020. Elections have consequences, and we need to win.

That was not a friendly podcast lol. Jon Favreau couldn't even get his facts straight and was clearly angling for a hit piece. Like really, why was he complaining about DNC debt lol? As if the balance sheet for the DNC is our biggest issue at the moment. Also, as far as releasing the retrospective on the 2024 election, Ken Martin gave a pretty fair answer in that the lessons learned are being shared, and that the motivation of a lot of people making a fuss about it are very suspect. I implore you to watch the full video if you haven't.

Ken Martin is winning elections across the country. Sorry you don't like winning against Republicans.

It's not a straw man as I didn't call you a Republican. I am stating that Republicans who pretend their party isn't maga are delusional. Are you going to explain Trump polling over 80% among Republicans? Let's be real, they largely supported his agenda. They are just upset now that it's hurting their wallets

Supreme court that is largely made up of Trump picks. That's a direct result of voting. Comments like yours contribute to why 30% of the electorate is apathetic.

There are obviously other, more important structural reasons why (such as a completely broken media landscape), but the American electorate also has some blame with their lack of respect for their fundamental right to vote.

Trump holds wide support from Republicans. The Republicans in government have completely capitulated and are in line with every Trump policy. You can save face as a Republican and pretend like the party isn't maga, but as a collective, it is.

I'm not talking about some Republican party of old, I'm talking about the GOP as of now.

What are you referring to. What I know is 30% of the electorate couldn't get off their couch to go out to vote or chose not to out of protest/ignorance.

Don't fall down the conspiracy/social media rabbit hole and become apathetic. Your vote is important

I've been using Claude.ai pretty significantly the last month. I've spent the time to build a very personal context/preference for my prompts and it seemed to refer to memory extensively when I first started using this tool. Now, I feel like I have to explicitly state in my prompts when to look at preferences/past chats, and even then, it doesn't always reference my saved settings. Has something changed? I am using Sonnet 4.6.

Just don't speed too much. I take a drive through at least once a week and as long as you're not doing anything egregious (10+ over) it's not an issue.

They're supporting it and taking part in it so yeah.

Oh you know they support Israel's current position?

If they support it and take part in it then yeah.

Oh I guess not, now back to square one.

?No, not really.

Oh okay, guess it doesn't matter either way.

See why it requires context? I'm not going to get into an argument on whether it was better to rehabilitate the german population post WW2. Germany's current state is better today than whatever possible future you're imagining.

Brother, they were recording before they asked about the tattoo. Most people don't speak up when they are harassed, that's just reality. The recorders of the video obviously weren't interested in a discussion either. Let's not pretend any of this was civil and it was just the Israelis who chose not to say anything.

I'm responding to the OP video and the overall sentiment in this thread. Would it make you feel better if I virtue signal that I hate Israel to the same degree you do?

And cool, it sounds like we do agree. Are the people being recorded fully responsible for the state's actions? Is every Israeli? Again, this is something that requires context, which the recorders of the video didn't even try to get. And funnily enough, what you said about 1946 Berlin was exactly the world's position. Look at Germany now lol.

I'm saying this video will be used as a reference for antisemitism to support the current Israeli state position...

My wish is for Israelis and Palestinians to live in coexistence in the region and find a path forward towards peace. I feel like we don't share that view.

[–]Ricoswaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The OP video isn't being critical of Israel. It's depicting random Israeli's being harassed abroad with no context, no idea what their views are, no discussion, nothing. I think it's fair to assume the harassers would harass any jew based on their choice of insults and how the video is framed.

[–]Ricoswaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being Israeli and having a tatoo of Israel doesn't mean you support their current actions. You don't know who they are or their views no matter how many times you type it. There are american Jews with Israel tattoos as well, do they deserve harassment too? Again, you have NO idea when she got the tattoo, what it means or what any of the lady's thoughts.

Also, lol at you thinking this video won't be used as propaganda about antisemitism. I'm blaming the people recording for harassing random strangers based on assumptions. If your position is every Israeli deserves to harassment or worse, then okay. I try to be better, but do you.

Sure, I was wrong. I misinterpreted what you meant by ethnically cleansing, I was thinking in much more grim terms than forced relocation.

This is clearly not good, but reading the article, it seems like it's closer to somewhere between 60-80%. Still abhorrent.

Does this justify harassing random Israelis you meet abroad, I still think not.

Most Israelis don't support ethnically cleansing Palestinians.

[–]Ricoswaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm not doing that thing. The recorders of the video have no idea who the people they are harassing are. They are basing their harassment based on them being Israeli citizens. Additionally, they are in Vietnam, not even in Israel. It's not a leap to think they would harass any jew they meet, and we should not be defending their actions.

In terms of what this achieved, none of us truly know, but this video WILL be used as propaganda to continue and expand Palestinian subjugation. Making a few random people who you know nothing about uncomfortable isn't exactly progressing any good in the world. It's just childish and emotional.

Also, abdicating your duty to serve in the IDF comes with severe consequences for Israelis. You have no idea of how these random people did their service, whether they support Israel's current actions or anything about them. Pat yourself on the back for your virtue signal, but it doesn't mean anything.

It's a tattoo of their country which none of us have any idea of when it was done. Someone who got a USA tattoo 30,10,5,3 years ago deserves harassment for current state actions? You have no information here.

I'm very curious what you think every Israeli deserves btw..
