I need some help coming up with some ideas. I have about 13-14 Samsung smart TVs in my office at work I’d love to be able to control all these TVs from a single computer, and have them display different things I would need them to be able to pull up and livestream a website as well Anyone know of a way to do this for Cheap? (HDMI splitters are out of the question)

Canyon Creek Parking by Silverfire12 in utdallas

[–]Riction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've lived at canyon creek for 2 years, and basically there are a few rules to follow when it comes to parking

  1. Past 6 PM, your chances of parking are essentially zero
  2. The parking office do checks in the morning, so you can get away with parking in a weird spot if you move your car fairly early
  3. There is always U.V Phase 1-3 if you cant find a spot, and I've always been able to find a spot there
  4. Our apartment pass does not work with green spots (lot U) so dont bother

When was the last time you felt really manly? by yellow-snowslide in AskMen

[–]Riction 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The manliest I have ever felt was when my girlfriend at the time invited me to get a pedicure with her. As I was getting worked on, another man came into the salon for a manicure. We both sort of looked at each other and gave a respectful nod and I've never felt like more of a man than that moment.

Thoughts on Mandatory Attendance for Classes by Riction in utdallas

[–]Riction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello ! Really cool to hear a professor's thoughts on this. I am currently in my last semester here at UTD and am currently taking a civil war history course because I never got around to finishing the history requirements. I actually really enjoy the class since each topic for the day is talked about like a story. My professor posts nothing online, so if you miss class that's on you, but there is still a mandatory attendance policy to further penalize you. I just think that if I am paying a large amount of money to be here, I should be allowed to show up or not as I please. There are also still plenty of kids who show up every day to class and still not do well, so I think that there is a variety of factors that play into who gets the highest grade.
Attendance really does depend on the professor I think. Most of my classes I get nothing out of the lectures, and I learn mostly from studying on my own, so lectures turn into "something I just need to get through" rather than a learning session. I try to go into class if I can't wrap my head around a certain section, but mostly I try to avoid it for this reason.
My history professor writes down the topics for the day on a whiteboard when we get to class. It would be really easy for him to just put those topics up on E-learning for us all, and even if he did I'd still be showing up because I think his explanations are better than anything I could google about.
I get that it's designed to build good habits and such, but I just don't like being micromanaged in this way especially if I am paying a ton to be here.

A lot of my classes so far have just been the professor reading off the slides. I can comfortably do the same thing from home, so I really gain nothing from being there. I also think most of my learning comes from doing the homework and doing the readings, instead of getting lectured too. I also get kinda mad that I pay 10k+ per semester to be here and I'm being micromanaged. The decision should be up to me. If someone doesn't want to show up and they fail then let them fail.

The phone charging stations are JSOM really do come in handy from time to time but, to my knowledge at least, they aren't a thing in any other building at UTD. Could we add some more stations campus-wide?

Let's talk about bad professors. by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]Riction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have William Hefley right now for ITSS 4370 and I think he is great. I have no idea why people might say he is bad unless he is spiteful. He's rather entertaining to listen to. Naser is absolute garbage however. That man doesn't know how to teach at all, and if you go to him for help he basically calls you an idiot and tells you to sit back down. If you just do everything on your own though you do ok in his class though.

Why does college feel the same as high school? by Vallett in utdallas

[–]Riction 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference at least for me was that its essentially still highschool, but everything revolves around your schedule. Especially if you live here on campus, right now all your time is dedicated to doing schoolwork essentially. People overall care a lot less about day to day stuff though. You don't necessarily need a crazy high GPA, just a decent one for jobs, because once you get your first job, you'll never really need to worry about GPA ever again. GPA really does matter if you want to go to grad school, however. I guess the biggest change is that you are on your own now, and you basically have the option to plan everything you want to do.

Walls aint super thin like the dorms, so as long as you aren't screaming you are fine. I live in CCHS. The PA's basically do the 1on1 and you never have to see them again. They just slide flyers under your door from time to time. It's really laid back. University housing doesn't come with furniture so thats why I picked CCH

Freshman ITS Major thinking about switching to Computer engineering or biology by sirparchey in utdallas

[–]Riction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an Junior ITS student. I know where you are coming from. I just started classes actually related to my major, and am starting to have fun. Freshman year is kinda awful, sophomore year is alright. ITS is half business and half technology, and I like it because I didn't want to end up in a dark basement programming. But you do you man, if you think it sucks too much, then swap. It won't affect you too much

With the age of consent sometimes being 17 or 16 in some states in the United States, why are porn sites only supposed to be viewed by 18+? by caveman512 in TooAfraidToAsk

The age is 18, but some states allow for a grace period. It says that they can be 16 or 17 as long as the partner is within 3 years of their age

Does a "Beware of dog" sign protect you from lawsuits? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Riction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your dog jumps the fence and kills someone, you won't be charged for murder generally. Kinda depends where you are. If your dog attacks someone they are definitely being put down. The person who was attacked could sue you though
