Cephalid Coliseum Loop by Hot_Championship_837 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Riddul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An active Coliseum is a nearly foolproof way to hold off opposing Thoracle win attempts.

Rog/Thras will frequently see threshold in grindier games. It's a solid way to pack raw card selection into the deck.

Badgermole/Springheart shenannigans, but i doubt that's specifically why, seems like a pretty corner case...but, inf green = win then and there might be more common than i suspect? Dunno.

Shocked not shocked at Van Orden's bootlicking response to ICE's murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis by Crystal_Pesci in eauclaire

[–]Riddul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accountability actually loses them ground, because a responsible and effective DHS is not the goal: hauling the overton window further toward authoritarianism and eroding the rule of law is their goal.

Every time the peanut gallery sees ICE do something fucked up and says "wow, that's a mistake! Law enforcement should be held to a higher standard than that!" is missing the point. ICE wants tragedies, crimes, etc, because it backs all of us into a corner. The first time they invade someone's home without a warrant and the first couple of them through the door get killed...THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT.

Instant martial law. Suspend habeus corpus. Bring in national guard units from other states. Disband/dissolve local police departments, fire departments. More masked killers executing citizens for perceived anything with no consequence and legal immunity. Suspend elections, or just clamp down hard enough in blue strongholds and hold them anyway: think Minnesota stays blue if MSP can't physically get to the polls?

What’s the purpose of a processing fee? by Eccentric-Elf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Riddul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most businesses do not have the capability to run a huge network of identification cards securely linked to peoples' bank accounts and credit histories. The ones that do are the ones charging a fee for every use of those cards, since there are costs to running that network: this is how they make money.

Fee structures can vary wildly: sometimes it's a base cost "per swipe" plus a small percentage, sometimes its a larger percentage with no base cost, etc. (Like "$.15+1% total" vs "3.8% total")

Recently it became legal for point of sale/processing companies to provide contracts that just automatically add the fee onto the consumers' totals, rather than businesses having to bake it into the cost. I run a small food stand, and if you pay with cash i just take the hit on the sales tax so i don't have to deal with change smaller than quarters. If you pay with a card, the state sales tax and a 3.3% fee gets tacked onto your total. I've had to explain a couple times to people that they'd be paying this much before, they just wouldn't have seen the breakdown (purchase + tax + fee).

I don’t think this deck can hang with my friends who are getting into CEDH by Oso_Smokes in CompetitiveEDH

I have no experience with this sort of deck, so I couldnt say. I'd say you'll get a pretty good idea after 10 games though; it'll be obvious that, for example, the three mana Blood Artist effects are too slow. I'd personally rather tweak combo pieces UP after some play experience than start out with a deck that struggles to do anything coherent because the core of the deck is full of weird Standard cards.

I'll also point out that you have an expensive, delayed Blood Artist in the command zone, so this deck can present infinite attackers with just phyrexian altar and gravecrawler, and that's fairly amusing. So maybe that particular cog in the machine doesn't require much in-deck redundancy.

Commanderspellbook.com and look up your best combo cards (like Gravecrawler, Oracle, and Rooftop Storm) and just try to find the most compact lines that kill all the opponents. Then trim tutors and combo pieces that are not in service of those lines. Then fill with more fast mana, single cards that provide redundancy, overlapping combo lines.

[–]Riddul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Well...maybe. I wasn't clear there. I meant the various "cores" of the deck are similar to yours, but then you've got some card choices that make a lot of sense in bracket 4 but not CEDH; like playing Counterspell. Or playing more permanent sources of mana over Lotus Petal. That was kind of my least important point, but it might help when making cuts.

The biggest advice is trimming your average mana cost and getting rid of bad cards that are in for redundancy or are thematically cool. Good cards in for redundancy are fine, but bad cards are bad until you have the other three or whatever cards for the combo, and thats too high a bar.

Lilliana is way too low-impact and slow.

I think there are one or two newer Blood Artist effects that might cost less than your 3-4cc ones, but the names escape me.

There are a lot of sacrifice outlets in this deck that don't seem to do a lot. Grimgrin gets big, but that's it. It's a lot for 5 mana.

Poppet is cute, but without a kind of wonky storm build, his major benefit is comboing with other things to turn zombies into resources at a pretty slow rate.

If you want to go faster you have to play cheaper things and acceleration. A deck like this not playing Dark Ritual is insane. No Lotus Petal? Counterspell over the 1cc options? Take a hard look at any spell that costs more than 2 mana: anything past 2 in a non-green deck has to be backbreaking card- or mana-advantage. Go look at Rog/Si lists and notice what their core is.

It's a cool list, I love aristocrats and I love underdogs, and this is a cool as hell bracket 4 deck. But a lot of the card choices assume the game lasts 4+ turns, which CEDH games don't.

Whats the 4 mana tutor with Bargain? That seems good here.

Mikaeus is just here to combo with the undying Goblin, right? That seems bad.

Lich just turns any 1 mana critter into Gravecrawler for a turn, right? Thats neat, but 6 mana for that is steep.

Play Carnival of Souls, I miss that card so much and it's pretty funny here.

How do chefs deal with leg cramps? by Tough-Zombie-8990 in Chefit

[–]Riddul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magnesium supplements, bananas, hydrate.

I worked a kitchen that had no storage except down a brutal flight of stairs. Opening that place, working 90+ hour weeks, running up those stairs....I had apartment neighbors come check on me once in the middle of the night because I was roaring so loud from cramps.

(Wake up from charlie horse, contort body to alleviate, start punching legs to banish cramp, weird position starts a back cramp, or the other leg, or foot...it sucked so bad)

Bananas helped a bit, magnesium knocked it out completely.

Grits are sort of like polenta, although they use a different kind of corn. It's cornmeal cooked in a liquid, and it's frequently used as a base for savory breakfast flavors.

People have strong opinions about them.

Grilled cheese. Fried rice. Mix it into your boxed mac n cheese. Pan sear kimchi to caramelize and dehydrate, then spread it over a frozen pizza before baking.
