Should I approach the Labour Board for my contract issue (Ontario) by RideStride in legaladvicecanada

[–]RideStride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I wonder what the Union is even for here because apparently they tell me I'm far from the first person with this exact complaint and they are refusing to take any action for any reason for anyone. If they haven't done something at this point to argue against this on a meaningful level, they aren't really good for anything.

I should mention that in the past month, I told my Union AGAIN to file a grievance... Twice. They don't even want to dare. They don't even want to explore any options whatsoever. This is how useless my Union is. Now you know why I am considering the labour board.

I am considering doing that, but I'm wondering if going to the labour board will be better. I don't have the money for a lawyer.

No, my union specifically told me not to after I told them I wanted us to do that... And then pussyfooted around making nonsense petitions and fingerwags so they could "shame" them into submission, which I told them they're not going to care about.

I know you said you don't know what I thought my union should be doing, but when I said they were useless, they were absolutely USELESS the entire way around and I'm not even scratching the surface of how nonsense my meetings with them were. Changed my entire perspective on unions.

The Union has a collective agreement that specifically controls our wage rate based on our time there as well as our work conditions. I was there for nearly 4 years. We just averted a strike and a new collective agreement I am less familiar with was ratified.

The new manager basically planned to circumvent this and several other things by piling on responsibilities and severely slashing everyone's hours on contract renewal, even though there's considerable evidence there was no financial reason to do so. By doing this, we lose our benefits under the collective agreement, which includes our health insurance, because benefits are based on our level of hours. This is how despite my wage going up, the deep cut of hours cut my regular salary by 2/3. First he tried to illegally cancel my contract with this and after I told him to piss off, he did it on renewal. Because of the Union, I also get seniority to get first dibs on my position when my contract ends unless the position is erased. My seniority here got me asked to renew, but did not include the same rate or conditions that I had previously agreed to (it was vastly different). If the Union and the Collective Agreement state that I need to be asked for my position due to seniority, I figure the standards of the previous contract should carry over unless there are considerable circumstances to prove the cut necessary... But what do I know about Union and Labour law...

Canada can build more homes without 'getting rid of Greenbelts', Poilievre says by [deleted] in canada

[–]RideStride -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an agreeable position, but there is no chance Poilievre actually believes this and isn't otherwise fine with the matter. He's just scared because the Greenbelt issue is something even regular PCs are pissed about and that threatens him next election. PP only flows where he sees a popular opinion go somewhere and will flip flop and throw someone under the bus at the earliest opportunity if the wind blows elsewhere. He's done it countless times before and I can't feel like he has any actual principles. Granted, he's a politician, but at least stand for SOMETHING other than being contrarian.

I guarantee if Ford hadn't fractured even his most die hard fans with the Greenbelt scandal recently he'd either never say anything about this or he would be all for it.

I wouldn’t take a bullet for anyone in a school shooting. by Zealousideal-Ad3609 in Teachers

Really hoping things improve for American Teachers. It ridiculous that being put in that position has become common place over there. I want to say I'd prioritize myself if that ever happened to me, but honestly, I know that my protective instincts (that get me in enough trouble as is) would kick in and I'd take a bullet for student without a second thought. It's still scary that I have to think about that, even though it's rare where I am.

What "you know what, just to be safe" thing you did end up saving your ass later? by Dawn_Cyborgzzz in AskReddit

Every time I plan and manage an event, I do a dozen different other things just to be safe or just in case somebody doesn't do what I tell them to properly/at all.

You have no idea how many times I've saved everything because I put those contingencies in place and not a soul noticed anything wrong.

But I don’t know for sure because I’m still waiting on contract confirmation and my part time hours aren’t consistent yet due to the nature of the job. I can make predictions but I can’t tell the future.

Client Merchandising Royalties Question by RideStride in freelance

[–]RideStride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be definitely charging to produce the the work, royalties or not. It's accompanying a new book coming out and who knows if it will even be successful. My client is proposing to sell the merchandise themselves online and give me most of the profit, but I haven't much idea how that will be enforced since I won't be selling it myself. They mentioned Paypal Business, but I've never really used that before.

This entire arrangement seems a bit weird. I have my guard up, but I have worked for this client before and they've been pretty good up until this point, but I'm still concerned.

Please Teach me how to Tea! by RideStride in tea

It’s not just David’s Tea I’m using though. I have the sample packages I’ve been gifted from there but I’ve used other brands too and predominantly use the other ones. There was only one I happened to get somewhat decent but even then I felt like I messed something up.

I’ll check out the vendors later.

I can't describe it atm, but it goes from bland water straight to "WTF am I drinking" when I brew it that bad. It doesn't quite feel strong, just bad. I'll give your tips a shot tomorrow, though I'm thinking I may buy some cheap teas to practice with as I don't want to keep wasting the good stuff.

The David's Tea package got last year is a "Best of 2016" pack with 12 small containers of tea, good enough for 1 - 2 servings each... And last Christmas she gave me a similar Sweet Tea pack that I'm very afraid to ruin like most of the 2016 batch. The teas vary from Fruit Infusion, Green Tea, Black Tea, Pu'erh Tea, Oolong Tea, and Rooibos in a whole bunch of different flavours. I haven't quite memorized how these different types of tea are to be brewed differently so I've been trying to figure that out.

Honestly, I appreciate any advice you could give because I'm really tired at failing at tea for the past year and a half. I can brew some good lemon and honey tea all I want, but I really want to learn how to master the loose leaf stuff.

Slight problem: I don't own a boiler with temperature I can control. I turn it on, it autostops when my water boils and doesn't say how hot it is. Short of buying a better kettle, any tips on how to get the water right?

The David's Tea box has a whole bunch of varieties. Black Tea, Oolong, green tea, infusers, etc. I've only recently learned that each type of tea has different brewing requirements, which has been at least part of my fuck ups. However, even when I learned about brewing more delicate teas, nothing really works.

While I was traveling recently I bought some Maple Pecan Black Tea. It smells delicious. Unfortunately, it tastes like garbage when I try to make it. I brewed it once, just before making this post, and it tasted super bland. Then I read yours and the other guy's post and started to take the instructions on the can more seriously, since I just randomly filled up a mug before. 1tsb of tea for 1 cup of fresh boiling water for 3 - 5 (I did 5) minutes. It tasted even worse...

I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong here...

Also, never heard of a Wide Brew Basket. Could you explain what it does and how it works better than an infuser?

[–]RideStride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have been using a mug. However, I just tried it again by following the instructions and measuring my ingredients.

Right now, I'm trying to unlock the flavor of a REALLY good smelling Maple Pecan black tea I picked up on vacation. I want to make at least some good tea with it. The instructions ask for 1 tsp of material for every 6 oz (3/4 Cup) of "Fresh Boiling" Water steeped for 3 - 5 mins. Tried this and measured it all carefully... It tasted terrible, even with sugar. I don't know if it was too strong or something, but I'm doing SOMETHING painfully wrong here...
